Does anyone actually change the unique characters you get from their primary class, when not teaching them other abilities? Stuff like Holy Sword is just...too good to give up

That's Meliadoul. I'm guessing she just unlocked Lightning Stab, which is responsible for 40% of all damage in a given playthrough. FACT.

    That's right.
I have a fan fiction floating around about Agrias, Melaidoul, Beowulf, and T.G.

    Hell no.

You gotta train up some secondary skills for them to use, but their secondary always stays if applicable

I do admit to being a little disappointed that Blood Sword doesn't work with Holy Knight abilities, but that would just be unfair.

And there's also Tactics Ogre: Advance which is just plain great.

Knights of Lodis? I looked for that game for years. I'm convinced ONLY counterfeits made in China were produced of that game.
Is it really that rare? I own a copy from way back.

Yes. After mastering Holy Knight, she stops in Knight for Equip Swords, then can move through all the classes like normal, while always being able to Lightning Stab stuff. Same with Mustadio and Mediator for Equip Guns.

In later levels, I usually change them completely just to reduce some of the Fire Emblem effect

Do you get EXTRA unique dialogue at Golgorand if you take Agrias and Mustadio? I got the extra bits for Agrias but never took Mustadio at all.

I always put Agrias through knight for equip sword, but I've never had the patience to grind enough JP with her to unlock Dark Knight.

I think I'm going to try for it. I currently have Agrias as an archer with Equip Sword, so...a holy knight that can aim really hard.

Hey, so fun fact about lionel castle, it HAS to be Ramza who opens the gate, no one else can do it. So glad I wasted a whole fight to find that out!

Y'know, I considered mentioning that, but I doubted anyone would go to the effort of getting someone else over the wall.

For what it's worth, there's another battle later on with two switches, it needs to be Ramza there as well. You'll know it when you get to it (this battle's much easier though, and the only battle where killing everyone doesn't end the fight!)

I already had a mage with teleport, so it made way more sense to try that out.

I really don't know about this game. I want to finish it, but I'm tired of losing fights to flukey bullshit. It's starting to feel like the way you get good at this game is by knowing what's coming in advance and preparing for it, and that actually being good at tactics isn't worth a damn. It's made worse by the fact that I now HAVE to grind at barius valley, which is not a good place to grind at.

This is undoubtedly true. There is no "good at FFT", there is only "knows FFT". There are handful of skills and classes that are totally broken, and the enemy AI never capitalizes on synergy.

That said, the Level 1 Challenge is definitely a thing people have done.

battle, the one male should have 53 EXP: 27 from this battle, 26 from
    Golgorand.

I have a copy of that game. Somewhere. I can't find any of my GBA games, which is a shame since I had some pretty rare ones. But yeah, Knight of Lodis. Which is technically a prequel to Tactics Ogre if you got the S+ ending.

You could also give Ramza Ignore Height and just have him NOPE out of the area and have him help the rest of your team clear out the rabble, then gang up on him last.

This was my plan, I just spent a couple fights grinding up lancer.

Hey so as an update, I did this. Spent a fight just grinding the hell out of everything, got enough for Ignore Height, then went back and had Ramza drop down to help wipe out everybody, then got ready to go back over and open the gate to kill gafgarion.

Ramza can't jump back up the wall.

So my whole team is alive, just waiting at the gate to run through and kill gafgarion, but no one can open it.

I can't decide if I want to beat this game or set it on fire.

    FUCK YES I still succeeded!

I had a monk with chakra who could heal people constantly and return mp, a time/black mage with teleport, a white/summoner with titan, and agrias whose stasis sword ignores height. I was able to lure gafgarion over with the mage and by planting ramza right by the wall. He would come over and attack, moving back and forth. I was able to get everyone in position so he'd come attack ramza, agrias could hit him with the sword, and I got him with a couple titans and some slows/bolts.

    EFF YOU GAME

At this point in the game, a double-fisted ninja is a quick and easy solution to a lot of encounters.

    Double-fisted ninja sounds so naughty.

Mustadio doesn't have any extra dialogue in Golgorand.

That seems like a bit of a missed opportunity, considering MOST of the dialogue concerns a topic of interest. Ah well!

Anybody know if the Titan Summon has any dependencies on the mage's stats? I thought it didn't, and put it on a Lancer I have, but now I don't remember. (Basically, I have no good ideas for the Lancer's secondary skillset).

  • HeartfinderHeartfinder Registered User regular
Summon damage (magic in general, actually) runs off of a combination of a) the caster's MA, b) the caster's Faith, and c) the target's Faith. This holds true if the magic skillset is primary or secondary on the caster.

Aside from Lich and the heal/status ones, summon damage formula is the same.

    [CasterFaith/100 * TargetFaith/100 * MA * X]

Where X depends on the summon. I believe it's the case that MP cost maps proportionally to X.

If anyone else is interested, few games have been mathematically deconstructed as completely as FFT. This is the Battle Mechanics Guide, the bible for FFT: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197339-final-fantasy-tactics/faqs/3876

  • WearingglassesWearingglasses Of the friendly neighborhood variety Registered User regular
D'oh! There were two Earth elemental summons. I meant Golem, the shield spell.

Which based on the mechanics guide is based on caster HP! Nice, only too bad my Lancer can only cast it a grand total of once.

I'm pretty sure the math for any given Fire Emblem is all out there on the internet. Then again, Fire Emblem has always been about clean and quick math. Something I've always liked about the series.

Yeah, the calculator class has horrible stats to balance their awesome abilities. I'd suggest learning those abilities ASAP (I always saved all the inn jobs for this) before switching back to some other class.

After just grinding for about 4 fights in a row, blew through all of the fights in the monastery. DAMN I'm tired of bad guys just teleporting out of here! It happened 3 fucking times in a row! This story arc is where we hit peak jrpg - we had a series of bad guys teleporting away, brought a new character along just to get kidnapped, and she was spirited away before I could even do anything.
