Once im done work ima take a walk over to the polls smoke a boel and be sad that I live in a swing region and the voter fund thingy for parties exist so im kinda stuck voting for not who want. Alas.
Unrelated but related, I live one district away from Ford Nation.
I'm really the least political person ever, but my vote is definitely not for Harper. I'd like to see our dollar go back to close to parity with the US.
Skallagrim (Youtuber) uploaded a video in which he talked about legislation introduced by the conservative government (the video is gone now, probably because he caught too much flak)
Some of that shit was downright horrifying from an outsider perspective and it changed my image of Canada a bit

However yay vote day
If you're talking about parties receiving federal election funds based on the percentage of the popular vote they received, Harper killed that a few years back.
the dark secret about canada is we too have old bigots who vote
Well, that and we have two parties splitting the centre/left vote, so the Conservatives only need to win over about 40% of voters to win because first past the post voting is flawed as fuck.

Nope, Harper got a majority of seats in parliament with 39.62% of the popular vote in 2011
Splitting the vote at a riding level meant Conservative MPs won many ridings where most of the constituents voted for either of the other two major parties

In the last election, the Conservatives received 39% of the vote, but a majority of seats. They did not receive a minority government that would have required support from another party. This situation is known as a false majority.
Some of that stuff is like shit out of a dictatorship (like the law which would basically allow anything to be construed as "supporting terrorism" of some kind, you don't have to be aware that you're supporting a terrorist agenda or that there even is an agenda like that)
Or the "Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act", nothing a white dude does is ever going to be prosecuted as a "Barbaric Cultural Practice"

Basically we need a formal alliance/merger on the left or move to preferential ballot voting or the Conservatives will continue to have a larger effect on Canadian policy than their actual support suggests they should. The former would kind of suck because it would mean having less options rather than more, but either would be better than the status quo.
After everything, it's almost difficult to believe that we'll start seeing the results just a few impossibly long feeling hours from now. I'm anxious, but also cautiously optimistic.

Voted in the advance poll a little over a week ago. Here's hoping we can see some positive change. I can't help but shake my head though on how the polls swung when the cons and Bloq brought up the whole hijab thing. It is literally of no consequence to me whatsoever from the running of the actual country.
I'd recommend voting for the progressive candidate (NDP, Liberal, Green) in your riding who has the best chance of winning. There are also plenty of good resources online to find out where the parties and their leaders stand on most issues.
The most important thing though, regardless of who you end up choosing, is that you vote.
My platform is pro-education and children's rights in general. I am also very pro-nuclear power and pro-easy-access-to-nuclear-power-for-giant-turtles.

The Bloc really needs to get zero ridings and kindly get the GTFO message this time around. I know way too many people who still hold a candle for them while it's gotten increasingly obvious how obsolete they are.
A Liberal minority looks like the most likely outcome. Here's hoping they actually enact the electoral reform they said they would, so people can actually vote for who they want to win for once.
"In election news, an unprecedented number of write-in votes have decided the new Prime Minister. According to our sources, they are known only as Me. Search is currently underway for the mysterious Me."
Canada is a disgusting mess right now, holy shit the CPC and Harper have driven us straight into the mud.
I dunno who I'm going to vote for, though. I like my NDP candidate (Linda Duncan is a boss, runs the only non-con riding in Alberta) but I don't
really like any of the parties right now.
So it's very much an anything-but-Harper feeling for me.
To elaborate on the Bloc, the part that really gets me is that Gilles Duceppe could be a tremendous Québec Premier. While I'm a heavy frowner on the whole islamophobia angle and sovereignty, the former is blatantly pandering and will always get play in this province (until the Quiet Revolution boomers start disappearing anyway) and the latter will never happen anyway.
But most of all, he should take the head of the PQ because if he doesn't, then our next Premier will be Pierre-Karl Péladeau and we really don't want that.
Ill take a Liberal minority but given some of there past bills they supported the cons would probably end up being the party they work with the most.
But ill take that over Harpers blatant pillaging of the country any day.

I am extremely happy that Strategic Voting has become well known in the last few months and campaigns like Anyone But Harper are getting the traction they need to get the job done.
That said, it is fucking lunacy that this needs to be a thing at all.
3 alternative parties with similar platforms on most issues splitting the popular vote so that the incumbent wins with 30% of the popular vote is unfathomable and should be ridiculously high on everyone's list of important issues.
If Canada used Preferential Voting it wouldn't even be a contest.

Serious answer: strategically for whichever Liberal or NDP candidate has the best chance of winning your riding
Failing that, vote for me
http://www.strategicvoting.ca/alldistricts.php and find your riding.
If it loads, and assuming you want something that isn't CPC.

Hey, we just drop kicked a 40 year provincial government dynasty to the curb, we might be able to mix it up for the federal election too.
Fingers crossed, anywah.
