POKEMON DIAMOND/PEARL OUT NOW IN THE US/CANADA
Hi, it's Professor Oak again, and I'm here to talk about...
...I mean
Diamond and Pearl, the 4th Generation in the long-standing Pokemon series!
Many things have changed since the days of Kanto.
First, there is an all new world:
with all new gym leaders, trainers, and of course, Pokemon.
In fact, there's 493 of them now! Take a look here: http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/
And what's more, almost all of them are obtainable between the two versions. The only unobtainables are:
RBY Starters
GSC Starters
RSE Starters
Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres
Entei, Raikou, Suicune
The Regis
Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Latias, Latios, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys
Other than that, you are set with one version!
"But wait! What about version exclusives?"
Ah, young trainer, we now have...
Wi-Fi Trading!
And not only that, we also have Wi-Fi battling. Not only can you obtain almost every Pokemon, but you can spar with anyone, anytime as well!

Now there's a reason for you keeping your GBA versions: unlocking Pokemon! After obtaining the Sinnoh Dex (which consists of only SEEING every Pokemon on this list: http://serebii.net/diamondpearl/shinoudex.shtml), you pop in a GBA game and a handful of Pokemon become available for catching! The list of unlockables are here: http://serebii.net/diamondpearl/gbapokemon.shtml
Speaking of GBA versions, there is now a way to transfer your old Pokemon into Diamond and Pearl! Be warned though: once they go to DP, they won't return. Find out more information here: http://serebii.net/diamondpearl/3rdgentrade.shtml
The Night/Day system returns as well (which can be manipulated with the DS's clock, so no more staying up at night just to catch that Hoothoot).
No more are the days of types being relegated to Special or Physical status. Now when Pikachu uses Volt Tackle, it won't be a Special attack, but a Physical one.

I was going to reply to one of the posts there when it was closed:
Gamestop/EB is strictly holding to the street date on Pokemon.
Also the DS Headset (Nintendo Brand), and the strat guides from NP and Prima are also street dated for Sunday.
Nintendo is apparently being pretty strict on this release, and has a report number for stores breaking street date.
And to reiterate this for the new Thread:
GS/EB Stores will be opening EARLY on Sunday for the release. Some Stores as early as 8:00 AM.
-If you are planning to get it there, give your store a call to see when they will be opening.
and i mentioned before but i will say again, i will be holding off on starting my own game for a while so i can hook people up with all the starters they could dream of. this is to balance out all the hojillions of pokeymans im gonna beg off other people.
edit: and if people wanna start sending me pm's with what starters they want, preferred name (if any), and friends code, i can get it all ready to go before the FINAL COUNTDOOOOOWN is over.

Gamestop never did preorders for the headset as far as I remember.
Our store got a box of like 10 or so of them (a sealed box from nintendo).
So I suppose if you are there early, you shouldnt have any trouble getting one. Hell, you probably wouldnt have trouble anyway.
I am seriously considering getting one for this and for Jump Ultimate Stars (I know it has voice chat as well... figure it probably would use the headset).

Heh heh. Yeah I think that's the CD. It has a song for the team rocket theme right? I can still remember a little bit of it. And hahaha your burn did not work due to a spelling error which everybody seems to make! I sort of win this round! I'll definitely be checking around the house tomorrow for it. I've found all the other CDs of the most retarded/awesome stuff I had as a kid so I'm sure that pokemon is here somewhere.
I don't think the fire comes out the front end.
Bit of news for you: Friend codes are unique per game (technically the Wii has a system friend code for Miis and messages, but games apparently still have their own). Hence the wailing and gnashing of teeth that often comes up on the subject of Nintendo's online approaches.
It should be easy enough to find once we have our games, but there's a reason the friend code section of the tournament list is currently empty. None of us knows what string of digits our DS overlords will see fit to brand us with.

A year or so later, Wii launches and has a system code. Sweet! Then...we find out games will also have friend codes. Uh...what?
The happy medium would be to have Friend Codes be enabled or disabled by parents.

* You can run inside buildings with the running shoes. Hooray!
* The music inside the Pokemon Center changes depending on the time of day.
* There's a separate pouch for medicine items. There's also a separate pouch for mail.
* The rival is cool. I thought he looked like a sissy at first but he's looking like he'll be awesome.
* The first city reminds me so much of Goldenrod City from G/S/C.
* The Pokedex number when you save your game is the Pokemon you've seen instead of caught.
* You can sign your trainer card.
* I'm not sure if there's an easier way to trade locally or not but Ashton and I went inside of the union room to make a trade. In the union room, you can draw pictures together and stuff. It's kind of neat.
If there was any doubt, this game is really awesome so far.
Also: I assume Pokemon Center/Event moves cannot be bred. Because, damn it, I want a Wishing Lickilicky.
