Yea the callbacks are a bit much; thankfully there are enough interesting new enemies. Also I like how whizbang they've made everything, from the lunge of the lightning spear, to the way dark attacks engulf your opponent in dark energy. So good.

I usually love callbacks, so I'll probably love that.

Physical copies typically end up cheaper as they get older. As the stores want to move that crap out of their stockrooms to put newer stuff there.
Ran into first boss I had to summon for, only because it was so fucking tedious. This is one of my weakness with these types of game. On bosses that just aren't fun and are a grind I have no damn patience.
Deacon of the Deep. Basically Rat Vanguard, times 100, with your target bouncing all over the fucking place. Almost beat it first try and then my desire to do so just ramped all the way down.

Being a sequel I don't really see what's the problem with callbacks. Then again, it been a year or two since I played Dark Souls 2 and more since I last played Dark Souls so I don't really remember too many specifics of the lore.
It's really only in certain areas. The one I just came from I guess there was one type of enemy that was a call back but not even close to how you remember it being.

What's better than fighting giant enemie with massive AOE, tracking spells, clipping attacks all in knee deep non-dodge poison water? Why doing so at sub 20 frames per second of course!
Seriously, can't believe they didn't learn their lesson with this shit. . .
Also playing a Pally sucks. Tons of new interesting weapons and only ONE I've found scales off Faith. This says nothing of the massive amount of magic vendors/spells you come across in a short time in the game compared to miracles.
What the hell is wrong with fextralife? There's a huge fucking thing that takes years to load, right on the frontpage. The only thing it shows is the fucking boxart and some kind of inaccurate timer. Use a .jpg, you imbeciles.
So Bamco's PR speak is obviously partially just damage control because they realize how pissed people are that NA streamers have been given the game early, but what they're saying about needing to patch the game before WW release is probably not without merit. Go watch some of the people streaming it on PC if you don't believe. Some of them are getting crashed to desktop whenever they rest at a bonfire unless they choose the knight starting class, others are getting crashes whenever they alt tab the game, and so forth. Plus, just because they have the japanese matchmaking servers ready doesn't mean the servers for the rest of the world are ready to handle the load of a million+ people playing simultaneously.
Anybody who plays JRPGs is used to waiting months to get games after they release in Japan. 3 weeks is nothing, and letting streamers find all the initial bugs(apparently there was a dupe glitch already found) and get them fixed before I play it is a okay with me.
OMG, the mound people or whatever the purple phantom PvP covenant is called is fantastic. They can go through boss fogs and fight you while you fight a boss, but they're also on permanent seed of a tree of giants mode so they agro the enemies in your world.
I haven't yet seen confirmation of whether they can straight invade or if you have to summon them, but you can definitely summon them via their purple sign they can drop. I'd be fine if that one was opt-in only, but I won't lie, if I can get invaded by a purple without my consent and they come make me fight them 1v2 with a boss I'm going to love it.

Is there anyone who long term opinions on the sellsword twinblades? Am I missing something with them? The damage output seems a bit low.
I'm trying to mix things up, but I may just switch over to a long sword.
IIRC merc was more pure dex while assassin is the dex and sorcery hybrid.
I'm taking General_Armchair's advice and going deprived, unequipping starting gear and going with what I find. I always like fist weapons so perhaps I'll go dedicated into that instead of just dabbling.
Paladin first and foremost. I'm gonna try to build the classic Heavy armor fuck you with lightning, but I'll go with just a buff and heal if I have to.
Dex/END.
And a qualityish generiknight build to top it off.

I seriously can't wait to play this game.
Lightning here is not the same as Lightning in Dark Souls 2. At the moment all I've used it for is pulling enemies. . .which is silly considering the numerous other options available. They really seem adamant on making it the support spell class this go around. . .which is about what I used it for in Dark Souls 1.
Anyone wanting offensive magic needs to either also invest in Pyromancy or go full Sorc.
Also just deleted my 25 hour playthrough, because I couldn't get over how derp my character looked from creation to ashification. . .:/

I'm okay with that. I'll never forget my omni-paladin from early 2, but as long as I can use shiny buffs and huge, fuckoff weapons, I'll be okay.
But for real though Dex has at least 3 prebuilt LOOKS that I would make a character JUST TO BE LIKE THAT GUY.
I may end up playing the PLD and Dex character side by side.
All right , now that its BC been playing dark souls 1. ( first time on consoles)and goddamn is it kind of wonky and not what im used to at all. So many missed parrys and rolls , guess I was just used to 60 fps. However now that ive become used to it , its getting much better. Almost at then end just need to finish sigmeyers quest and kill nito then its off to the kiln . It reminded me of how much I hate Bed of chaos and how much I love Pikachu and Snorlax. Also kids if you invade and are going to heal with humanity dont do it in the enemies face, had a guy try to do it to me and that just instantly ended the fight since I just went to town on him. It takes FOREVER , run behind the enemies that are protecting you and then heal.
Also a Ds3 question thats kind of weird , is there any armor sets that mention they are meant for exploring? I dont know why but I always love to use armor sets that were meant for exploring unknown lands and such . I need such a set and a equivalent to the baller swag stick.

I decided to go with a dex build for this first DaS3 play through. I came upon the Uchigatana relatively early and have been using that. Not sure if I'll stick with it or go with some kind of spear, but for now this works.
So far it's all pretty great. It's a Dark Souls ass Dark Souls game. I've felt like it's been a really nice mix of DaS1 and DaS2 so far. Think DaS1's more vertical, in-wrapping, level design, combined with DaS2's more fluid mechanics and movement.
e: For anyone else playing, have we heard anything about an i-frame stat? I've heard some grumblings about Luck, or that there simply isn't one and i-frames is purely based on gear load/roll speed. Anyone found anything solid on this?
If you're really trying to min-max stat points, it's more important to look at what a class doesn't have than what it has. For example, if you know that your endgame build won't touch faith at all then you want to pick a class with the least faith. The initial stat points are invested on a budget, so you're golden as long as the stats are invested in stats that you'll ultimately use, even if the relative distribution of stats at game start is dramatically different from what you have planned for endgame.
It doesn't matter if you start out with more strength than dex if you ultimately still need to invest a stat point or two into strength to meet the equipment requirements of a late game dex weapon.
Deprived is a superb class if you're unsure of what you're going to look like at endgame or if you have plans to respec and try different builds. At an even "10 across the board" distribution, it is never the most min-max option for any build, but it is also never a terrible choice for any build. (edit: if you're a new player, don't pick deprived. The start of the game is MUCH harder I'd you do. )
The other school of thought for your starting class is whether or not the class starts with any equipment that makes the game start easier and more streamlined or opens any paths sooner . In ds2 I liked the Explorer because the pharos lockstone helped me to access the equipment locked behind those locks a little bit earlier. A lot of people liked cleric solely for starting with that extra heal. For dark souls 3, the assassin's ability to start with a fall control spell looks very interesting. I'm not familiar with the level layouts, but I'm sure that you'll be able to reach SOMETHING prior to other classes finding fall damage reduction gear to follow the same approach.
Finally there is simply the fashion souls approach of looking cool, which generally works out in the end unless you are crazy out in left field like picking sorcerer when you want to be a havelmonster at endgame.

Found one of every stone except that. It's a fucking joke is what it is. Is'sa cruel joke. . .
So don't buy one just for that

Game of the year 2016.
BOSS SPOILER BUT IT'S JUST A NAME
Which class would work best with uchi?
Which infusions would work with it?
Geez
I want to go DEX and something
Mercenary or Assassin?
I'm taking General_Armchair's advice and going deprived, unequipping starting gear and going with what I find. I always like fist weapons so perhaps I'll go dedicated into that instead of just dabbling.

I'm leaning towards that, and thinking which class to start with
Uchi and bow? And bombs?

I just saw an item-description
Dark Souls 2 had three types of split scaling, if I remember. A + B, A/B whichever is higher, and A/B whichever is lower.
I'mma start Assassin for early Spook. I'll jump. Estoc and Target Shield are neat, too.
