patrick wanted motherfucker puzzles, he got motherfucker puzzles

(also patrick doesn't know about any mario mechanics)

I would not say that invisible item blocks or glitched blocks that the player has no way of figuring out are puzzles

    they're mostly just hot bullshit

this is the price patrick pays for encouraging the growth of the Hard Puzzle mario maker scene

it's absolutely bullshit, but it's not like it's completely impossible to figure out either - it's just that the hint is in an unobvious upside-down spot-the-difference puzzle that seems like it'd be pretty damn easy to miss unless you were actively looking for such

it's why the solution video has him pause and point out said difference before solving the final invisible hole nightmare puzzle

that prison is like if in the Ryckoning you needed to get to the end of the underground to find the location of an other-wise unknowable hidden block near the end of the level

like, if to get the final P-switch you needed to hit a hidden off-screen block with the goomba and then hit a second one to set another goomba falling down on it and flipping the switch, and the entire thing was communicated to you be there being a little dead-end room at the end of the underworld that was that last cage thing except flipped upside down and with the hidden blocks visible

and that still wouldn't be as bullshit as literally hiding the exit in the wall through a glitch

although I will say that having you escape the prison through a hidden hole in the wall is somewhat fitting???

What was promised: AN INESCAPABLE MIND PRISON
What was delivered: A SLIGHTLY ESCAPABLE MIND PRISON
I'd call that good on all accounts. This isn't Meatboy, or I wanna be the guy, or Boshy, though I'd love to watch Patrick break himself on those too, this is "bullshit puzzle land"

And honestly, I think it still could be worse if it required feats of Mario dexterity in areas you could not even see, throwing goombas into apparent abysses with hidden P blocks and such.

Side note, is there any word on ever getting even audio from the adventure zone livecast? Or is that behind paywall forever?

My issue is that it uses a glitch. It's one thing to use a POW block as a platform. It's something else entirely to have a spinny block disguised as an unbreakable stone block.

Look, when hypercubes are involved, you've got to be able to shift your perspective. To not trust that your surroundings truly are what they seem.

The end of Griffin's level is horse shit. You can't even see it in the editor unless you try to move those two blocks.

I don't know why people keep mentioning this. Patrick specifically asked for bullshit levels and Griffin made it very clear from Day 1 that what he was making is technically a human rights violation.

The stages are supposed to be difficult, not bullshit that exploits glitches in Mario Maker.

Did patrick like set a set of rules down in his challenge

why are people mad about a thing where the explicit purpose is to irritate patrick for entertainment value has irritated patrick

No glitches was understood between Dan and Patrick. It's supposed to be difficult for Patrick, but a huge part of the entertainment value is that it's a contest between two people. If the stages are gonna have weird glitches you can only know about from reading forums then might as well pack the series up.

I'm mad at the level in the same way I would be mad about a level where there are 80 Bowsers in a box at the end or one where the solution is to find the one hidden block in the level that contains the item you need for the end

it's not a challenge that is interesting to figure out, and it's not particularly well-designed either

The solution is just "did you know about this fucked up mechanic that is not actually a part of mario maker," which, while it meets the technical qualifications for a Difficult Level, seems in violation of the spirit of the contest. There's no way to figure out the solution to the level within the level itself, outside of dumping an exorbitant amount of time into it.

It was, quite explicitly, never intended to be as such and any expectations of it based on this are entirely your mistake.
