Portal 2 and Rocket League were given out to people who bought a Steam Link and/or Controller, right?
Yup.
Well that explains that.
I've got my PC for the weekend and decided I'd like to play some KOTOR but didn't have it installed... Perhaps some of you remember what I'm dealing with.
2+ GB? Yeah. That's not happening.
Shit. F-. That's rough.
Like, that's as close as a teacher will get to saying "Fuck you completely" when grading something.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. ... I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Every time I re-log into Steam (not often, but Windows 10 decided to reboot on its own last night which I also fucking hate), Steam now congratulates me on adding a phone number to my account.
Which is worse than when it kept asking me to ADD a phone number IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Can I turn this garbage off?

So Steam Support update:
I haven't gotten the new ticket response but my son's account just got restricted until the same day as mine.
I haven't gotten the new ticket response but my son's account just got restricted until the same day as mine.
I mean... there's bad customer service, and then there's deliberately going out of your way to piss off customers. It's like doing the exact opposite of what many, many years of capitalist experience has demonstrated is the link between good business and good customer service. It's genuine nose-thumbing at this point.

WTF Valve?
Yeah, this is irredeemably fucked from a service perspective. At a certain point, gross incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.
I don't know how practical it is to consult a lawyer over something like this, but it'd be really tempting right about now.

I've thought about it, but probably not with a little over 2 weeks to go. I wonder what the legality of preventing me from activating and playing a game I've paid for is.
Well restricting an account that was created to circumvent a restricted account is exactly the sort of thing that I expect to happen.
It's just that your original account shouldn't have been penalized so heavily in the first place.
I didn't create it to circumvent anything, save for their shitty implementation of Family Sharing. If my son wants to play anything while I'm playing something, he has to have his own account with his own copy, which is what I was trying to do. I was trying to buy a game I already own. I can't fathom what Valve's angle is, what they're protecting themselves from. Money? They sure let me activate the wallet card with no problems, though.
So the account is attributed to your son's email and credit card info? No? The credit card and email are owned by you? All the identifying information for this account points to it being owned by an individual whose account was penalized and that you're trying circumvent the penalty. The standard response when an individual is identified as creating a new account to dodge a ban or other penalty is to apply the ban to the new account.
The situation sucks and you've been screwed over in general, but you walked right into getting the second account locked down.

Dove into some PvP matches in Chaos Reborn last night and had a complete blast. I lost nearly every match, suffered insane reversals of fortune, pulled off a couple of really great moves and really just enjoyed it immensely. I mainly played Classic Mode which rolls you up a staff, armor and wargear from a preselected pool, so you can get some pretty wide variance in how you are equipped.
The thing I love the most about the game is that the RNG just kills any idea of optimal play. Strategies become much more interesting when you have to make fallback plans or exploit sudden openings. Good play is of course still very important but the lack of determinism makes for a lots of fun surprises. And the matches are really short so a loss doesn't have the same sting of say losing a half hour match. These things are over in a handful of minutes.
I found that my opponents and I would practically race each other for the Rematch button which throws you right back into the same style of arena with the same load out. And if you can't find time for even a short real time match or you don't dig the pressure of the timer you can take advantage of asynchronous matches as well, so best of both worlds. I'm really looking forward to the expansion of the social and multiplayer features because I had a lot of fun matches with friendly players.

Unfortunately for things like this, the only way they seem to get resolved like they should is when they get media attention.
You can be sure if something like that happened to some games journalist it would be resolved in a day or two.
It just highlights how poor Steam support can be.
I wonder what the legality of preventing me from activating and playing a game I've paid for is.
I suspect the same legality for being 'banned' from a store for reasons outside of breaking the law. Steam just has a better enforcement system.
If that's the case, I wonder if 2K or Bethesda would be interested to know Valve is basically preventing people from purchasing their games, since they require Steam to play.
I did thik on this a bit, and maybe sending the story to Patrick Klepek at Kotaku and Austin Walker at GiantBomb is a decent idea if you want to make some noise. Both of them are pretty focused on these sorts of issues.

Well I tried playing Amnesia the dark descent but I couldn't go any longer than 19 minutes.
I was already creeped out by the atmosphere, but when I read a note that I was being followed I noped the fuck out of the game.
Since it was still Halloween though I decided to play Teeman's gift of The Last Door.
Which was really good. Up until the game crashed.
I really hope my progress has been saved, but since I was only 37 minutes into the game it shouldn't be too hard to get back up to that point again, know that I know what to do.
So am I the only one on these boards who bought Curses N Chaos? I played for about an hour and a half, and playing that game singleplayer is NOT easy. Took me over an hour to beat the first stage
If anyone else is interested in playing co-op let me know. It's a cool game and it seems like it would be way more fun with another person
Yeah I love Steam and it's an excellent excuse to gift you Sir Carcass but don't let this shitty situation fade away. It's inexcusable.
Edit: damn auto correct
Respectfully disagree? About the tactics, anyway, and not the inexcusability.
I can't help but feel that the time to go nuclearmedia was back when this all happened. At this point, we are pretty close to Sir Carcass theoretically being reunited with his account (before it is locked, burned and scattered to the four winds for suspicious gift activity.)

huh. Never would have taken a glance at that game without your post on it. But the video on the store page looks cool.
In other news, continuing with my "going with shortest games on HLTB," I beat InFlux, a third-person 3D puzzle game made by fellow PA forumer @LaCabra (I think it was) - it's pretty good! I think it was a first release by him/her, so keep that in mind (e: Just checked, not first, technically since there was the shotgun sunrise mod - I remember that! - and an iOS game), but it's also on sale for Halloween (not intentional :P ), so it's more than worth picking up at that price (or better yet, wait until the sale is over :v ). It's relaxing, not very difficult, and aside from one or two points I never really got stuck - never knew why I was doing anything, but hey
It also controls quite well with the stream controller. I changed a few buttons, but the TouchPad control for the camera worked great.
Awesome to hear, thanks for the plug Also for reminding me that i scheduled a sale..
It definitely feels like not a lot of people know about it. Out of my entire friends list that has over 100 PA people, only one person has it on their wishlist
It was made by the people who made Mercenary Kings and Wizorb, and was mainly on my radar because Paul Robertson did all the boss sprites and that dude is super talented
Hell, here's the trailer in case anyone else hasn't heard of it
Alright starting with my Halloween stream shortly. 30 minutes of Darkest Dungeon followed by 2 hours of The Park, maybe more depending on how long it takes to finish it.

See, I'm a bit cautious about Curses n Chaos, because I did NOT enjoy mercenary kings, Plus when you tell me the title of a game is "Curses N Chaos" I immediately think of Ghouls 'n ghosts, and then get REALLY disappointed when it's not like ghouls 'n ghosts.

I'm a bit worried because it feels like there's a gun pressed against his account and the only real option is either take it on the chin and wait, or risk having his account outright banned out of spite. He'd probably be able to take legal action but would it be worth it? Would he even get his account back? It's such a shitty situation.

If it were an automatic ban, done by a computer, sure. But from what I've seen they have people doing this. A person should be able to review the details of the original account lockdown, note that Sir Carcass has spent $2500 on Steam games, see if it's even likely that he's trying to grief or scam using goddamned Farming Simulator 15, and make a judgment call to fix this. Instead it seems like their human staff doesn't do anything that couldn't be handled by an autoresponder; it would cost less, respond much more quickly and it would take someone ten minutes to write some nice polite replies for the autoresponse to use. I don't care if their CS staff is in India being paid $1.50/hr, they're not getting their money's worth.
