Re: The SirCarcass situation. I don't think I have any industry contacts at Valve, but I've put out feelers just in case there's a friend of a friend situation.
@Sir Carcass , You might actually want to contact them ahead of time about the GiftBomb. I'm starting to get real worried that this might set them off again.

Gah...just tried to set up the 2 step mobile authentication. Get to the Recovery code screen and it fails to actually generate a recovery code. Try to refresh it and now its saying that I can't change the Steam Guard settings from my phone any more and I'm stuck not being able to generate codes.
Have now raised a ticket with Steam Support (which was...an effort...in and of itself) but in light of @Sir Carcass and his experiences I am...less than hopeful this will be sorted out
It's all saltwater these days:
Ocean, tears and heartbreak soup
Half alive in a whitecap foam

What do The Howler, Draculas Legacy and Lilly and Sasha have in common? They're all gifts from a very tipsy @Shade!
Someone needs to hide the key to his liquor cabinet! In other news, Assassin's Creed Black Flag is coming along nicely! I have gotten passed the point I previously stopped at. Twice. I really didn't like the gated ship stuff. Being forced to upgrade my ship so I can continue in the story is not a good mechanic! That said, Ireckon it'll be completed by the end of next week. Then on to Unity, Rogue and Liberation!
So when the Steam controller first came out, some people were grumbling that it used standard AA batteries for wireless mode.
Now this is something that actually struck me as a little odd. Instead of using a proprietary set that'll wear itself down with time and be costly to replace, you can just use generics you can get in any store on the planet. Meanwhile, there's nothing to prevent you from using rechargeable AA batteries either as far as I'm aware (Never tried them personally. Are they significantly less reliable / more likely to leak than standard controller rechargeables or non-rechargeable AA's?).
Part of the issue is simply that people believed AA batteries would drain super fast and you'd be going through them like water. Seems like the reality for these is actually the opposite:
No removing the batteries isn't that hard (though it is a little fiddly). The surprising thing though is that this guy's been using the Steam controller more than most users in order to make videos, and he's only replacing the batteries after 45 days. Other users seem to be reporting similarly low battery drain rates.
Bear in mind, there was a recent firmware update to increase battery life, so it wouldn't be surprising to see it last longer still now.
I have a suspicion that a large part of the extra battery life is simply the lack of rumble (partly because it's replaced by haptics instead). Personally I've never liked gamepad rumble so this isn't a loss for me, but others do, so as always, caveat emptor.
Rechargeable batteries don't hold their charge nearly as long as disposable and, over time, wear out anyway. However, they're more cost effective overall since you don't need to buy new ones when they run out of charge.
Now, I don't know about the Steam Controller, but there was a situation with Rock Band guitars that rechargeable batteries didn't work at all. Some science blahblah that I forget but the summary was they weren't nearly as powerful as required. The GH3 guitar (don't know about anything after) didn't have that issue.
I don't have any reason to believe a gamepad wouldn't work with rechargeables, but there you go.
@Quical has no sense of proportionality. Sure, maybe I sent a gift or two. Maybe I killed and ate some scientists. But bombing New York is way out of line.
Thanks Quical!

Figured I should play something for Halloween. Was gonna play something scary but I'm just not up to it.
I guess I'll try out Costume Quest since I've never played it and my best friend tells me it's really good.
It better be really good.
Whhhaaaatt, you've never played CQ?
It is really good. I'm pretty sure if you don't like CQ you're a monster. Don't be a monster.
Eh. I played it for a bit. I ... It didn't grab me.
I hate QTEs. Having an entire battle system built around them? No thanks.
Ah ok. It's funny because I never even considered those QTEs. I always thought those were just built into cut scenes like God of War and games like that, but I guess it's similar. I think you could basically even ignore them and still beat the game. They just give you extra damage.
I came into this thread thinking about STALKER, and the first post I read was about cute anime girls, so now I have a juxtaposition in my head.
Eager to finally beat RA2, but all these missions spending 2 minutes panning you around and showing you things....really annoying. Would be better if my dumb ass remember to save immediately after the intro.
Seattle sucked at first, but became really interesting after I figured out to run all the way to the right.
edit: every time I do a bit more research on STALKER, I worry I have downloaded the wrong mod.
This is really making me wish Arma 2 ran on my rig, and that there were some good and deep single player campaigns.

Sir Carcass, You might actually want to contact them ahead of time about the GiftBomb. I'm starting to get real worried that this might set them off again.
I don't know, man.... every time I've contacted Valve it has resulted in bad times. And them screwing with 26(!) additional people would be pretty dumb. Honestly, at this point, I think any goodwill on my part (like I did with my son's account) would just result in them getting suspicious and preemptively punishing me for some imagined wrong. Walking on eggshells around here and I hate it.

Hyperbole aside, I think even a "good" experience with support based on what I've seen would be: put in ticket, wait 3 to 7 days for response asking you for information you either already provided or that doesn't really apply to your situation, send requested information immediately, wait 5 to 7 days for response telling you their course of action and asking for your assent, give assent immediately, wait 2 to 4 days for it to go through.
The only other ticket I've put in before all of this (in 2010) resulted in a similar track and was ultimately unable to resolve the problem.
Huh, steam targeting all of us on bombing day, hadn't thought of that.
I can't imagine they'd actually do anything to you guys. At worst they would probably just block me from accepting them or something, but that basically amounts to them making you waste the purchase. I think the chances are low.

Apparently the bundle with The Quiet Girl's Guide to Violence (which @Jragghen had already gifted me) was cheaper than just Coffee, Kill Boss alone. I'd hate for the extra copy to be lost, so Jragghen, you can either recall your gift and send it elsewhere, or I can add it to my inventory when the time comes and regift it. I do have 1 person on my friends list that has it wishlisted.

I'm not sure what the consensus was at the time, but to me Portal 2 is starting to feel way, waaaay too long. I'm only up to the start of Chapter 8 and it already feels about 2 chapters too long.
I thoroughly agree. The lore was OK, but my personal opinion is that the game would be improved if a huge chunk of chapters 6 and 7 didn't exist. The puzzle signposting is worse, and the story pacing isn't as tight either. I didn't even like even the general aesthetic of the enrichment spheres. But as soon as chapter 8 started, I was all on board. Things get better and better from here on out.

Portal 2 had too many "stop and look around for ten seconds to find the one small patch of white paint that you can portal to half a mile away" sections.
There was definitely a point in Portal 2 where I started to think "Okay, the game needs to hurry up and end now". Luckily the actual ending wasn't that far off!
I still haven't played Portal 2, despite paying full price for it on 360 when it came out, buying it again on Steam, and playing the crap out of the first game.

You should.
It's got some issues but it's still a ton of fun, especially if you liked the original.
Also, a lot of people thought it was groan-worthy I guess, but (late game spoilers)
the "The part where he kills you" dialogue, chapter name, and achievement/trophy gag
made me laugh.

Game of Thrones Telltale finale scheduled for release on all platforms on Tuesday, Nov 17th. It's gonna be a swell day.
-Sir Carcass gets freed from his chains (hopefully)
-Star Wars Battlefront comes out
-I'm going to a Parkway Drive show
-And now Game of Thrones finale release
So I decided to give 100% Orange Juice a test run.
Wow...just how weird is this game? I'm hopping around an incredibly colourful board, rolling dice and getting cards and random things pop up and having absolutely no idea whatsoever about what on earth is happening.
I love it!

@Sir Carcass I think it's okay to use idle master for cards you don't want to play or play again. No reason to download the game for that. But if you are using it as an excuse to play it again, then yeah, you will need to download it again.
