    Try Skyfactory 2!

It has Veinminer, aka the double edged sword of quick tree harvests and also sometimes destroying your platform

its not an issue of mining quickly, its just.. everything in infinity skyblock takes shittons of effort and time, and as a single player theres no way to leave shit processing or working over night or anything to be ready for you, so you have to play potentially many days to reach the same point as you would if you were on a server autoprocessing over night.

so I downloaded resonant rise 3, and am playing with that, which is alarmingly difficult..mostly because of headcrumbs spawning billions of famous minecrafter mobs and..i think its called grimiore of gaia, spawning shittons of horribly powerful things that can 2 shot you, while you are trying to fight them with stone sword and no armor because its literally 3 minecraft days into the world.

That doesn't sound like very much fun.

I want to try 1.10 now that there are a decent number of mods out for it, but I really don't want to play minecraft single player, and there isn't a server downoad in the ftb launcher.

from what I understand, it seems focus is now on the curse launcher, for the ftb team.

    so maybe check with that.

It's the same curse app that had the voice stuff, probably also the Wow Addons as well. https://www.curse.com/download is the link to it.

I can't find any server downloads there either. I'll do some more googling, but it looks like they're not including server files on purpose for whatever reason.

Yeah, I've ran a bajillion ftb servers before. They're only distributing client packages for the 1.10 unstable release. Reddit says it's possible to make your own server files, but it's a bit buggy and I don't want to put up with that headache.

Unrelated to the modding shenanigans but Minecraft Story mode is quite an enjoyable game. The kiddo has played through a part of it and I've been playing it a bit lately and it's quite fun.

I don't even have power and still live in a hole in the ground and I've already got 10 10 10 redstone and lapis seeds.

then again, in RR, magic crops isn't near as broken cause it takes 9 essences to make 1 lapis or 2 redstone. unlike previous packs that gave 8-16 per crafting.

I went back to galacticraft just for something to do, and I finally figured out how to automatically load buckets without having gone to mars first. Lava powered stirling generators for all!

..and I just realized, with all the mods crammed into Resonant Rise, it doesn't have Galacticraft.

Which is sad, cause I want to go to the moon and beyond.

  • LD50LD50 Registered User regular
I'm actually playing... galactic science. It's a hqm and galacticraft pack where you start on the moon. It's pretty fun. Earth has been destroyed by nuclear war. You escaped to your dad's abandoned moon base. You can't go back to earth, and there aren't any resources on the moon. It plays a little bit like a skyblock pack; you rely on ex nihilo in the beginning to get dirt and ore and pretty much everything.

I think I tried that before, I remember quitting because the lack of direction the quest book gives you.

IIRC, at the time atleast, the quest book was "Do this quest, now do this quest, now go figure out the next quest on your own without hint because fuck you that's why"

  • LD50LD50 Registered User regular
It doesn't have as much direction as regrowth did, but I haven't gotten stuck or anything. It might be more complete than it was when you played it, and I also haven't gotten off the moon yet either.

Yeah, when I played it there was a hard wall that I had to spend days trying to dig up info on before ultimately saying screw it and playing something else.

  • DranythDranyth Surf ColoradoRegistered User regular
I watched some of a Galactic Science playthrough, it did seem pretty neat.

I had to pull 2 of my RAM sticks, so I'm down to 8GB right now, but the PC seems more stable, as does Minecraft. I've been swapping back and forth a little between Agrarian Skies 2 and Magical 2. I got that Lava Fab/Steam Dynamo power source set up in my Magical 2 world, which allowed me to start charging Draconium Blocks to make Awakened Draconium and finally get my armor upgraded. Weapons/Tools need to wait a bit longer, mostly due to the more difficult recipes needing a lot more Zivicio essence than the standard ones.

Today I decided to concentrate on fixing my diamond income, then I started pushing pretty hard to get the things I needed to link Thaumcraft into my ME system, including grabbing a Wisp spawner to make a small spawning chamber to get a steady income of ethereal essences going, both for making essentia storage disks and for getting Aurum. So now I have a full drive of 1k essentia storage disks, can import from my one alembic, have a provider going to the alchemic furnace and have the infusion provider under my altar. In fact, I did my first infusion craftings earlier, so this is the farthest I've ever gotten into Thaumcraft before. I had to make the Sword of the Zephyr to be able to make the MFR Grinder to kill the Wisps, the Draconic Evolution Mob Grinder is a ways off, it requires an Ichorium Sword, and apparently I can't even learn to make Ichor until I've learned every vanilla TC4 research, including hidden ones and the whole Eldritch tab. And possibly every Thaumic Tinkerer research? I can't quite recall if that was it or not. So... that's going to be a while. At any rate, I was considering my goal to be getting that Draconic Evolution grinder up so I could start auto-making/killing Wither bosses, since they drop Zivicio essence. Maybe even setting up a Nether Star generator, but that probably won't be necessary, at least until I actually get a Draconic Evolution power storage core up and running, if I decide to do that anyway.

This pack is still pretty grindy, and I don't have everything quite automated the way I'd like just yet, but I'm getting there.

Yeah. I have some friends I'm trying to convince to play minecraft with me. I'm not sure what modpack I'm going to coerce them into playing, but I might do regrowth again.

I've done it before, but not with this router. I was able to connect via the lan IP, but when I tried to connect via my dns or external IP it wouldn't connect. External port testing tools told me it was reachable. Things were getting very confusing and I eventually just tried to connect over my phone's network and it connected just fine. The whole thing was very confusing.

have you looked into crash landing?

its iirc it was the pack that set off the big hqm boom.

  • LD50LD50 Registered User regular
Crash landing is more hardcore than what I'm looking for. Something more in the vein of regrowth or galactic science is what I'm looking for. There's a few other packs I've been looking at. I'll narrow it down to a couple of different choices and I'll run it by them.

Ugh I've quickly hit the point in non-hqm minecraft where it feels pointless to go any further because I'm basically just sitting here figuratively masturbating alone with blocks. at least with HQMs theres a sense of accomplishment and a drive to continue even when alone.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I want an HQM pack. There's a couple of non hqm packs that I'm interested in, but it seems either lonely or intimidating playing alone in those.

resonant rise has more stuff, infinity is probably simpler to set up as it doesn't give you option on install to select which mods you want.

yep, that's how I play resonant rise. god I think I check just about every mod in mainline and optional.

If that's your plan, I'd strongly suggest not enabling grimoire of gaia or headcrumbs, grimoire adds tons of mobs that are super super tedius to deal with early game, headcrumbs just spams the world with hundreds of hostile minecraft streamers/youtubers.

I'm having some issues with the resonant rise server that I can probably fix when I'm less tired, but I'm launching an ftb infinity evolved server instead for now.

People who are interested in it:
You can get FTB infinity from either the FTB launcher or from the curse voice launcher.
PM me your minecraft name (you too Butt, I don't remember what your minecraft name was), and I'll send the server info and whitelist you.

Agreed. I was looking into Sky Factory 2.5, and even started it up briefly (before I decided to wait for a few versions so some bugs could get fixed). I rather like the available mods, even some stuff I've never messed with myself yet, like Ender IO, but it doesn't have HQM, instead it has something called Simple Questing or something like that. It basically kind of gives you some suggestions of things to get done, which you can mark off yourself. It isn't so much a quest book as it is a 'To Do list', which isn't nearly the same.

In my Magical 2 pack last night, I did start getting into the top tier of Draconic Evolution tools, even got my Staff of Draconic Power made... that thing is ridiculous. I also messed around with the Bibliocraft printing press in order to make level 5 versions of various enchants: Soul Stealer, Reaper, Sharpness, Smite and Efficiency. I got a Looting 3, but now I need to get a Fortune 3 and a Silk Touch to be able to swap out when necessary. Soul Stealer is because this pack has Soul Shards: The Old Ways, so I got that going to make a Soul Cage and ended up making a Tier 5 Wisp Soul Shard, then replaced my Wisp Spawner with a Tier 5 Soul Cage. It's... much too good, the single MFR Grinder has absolutely no chance at keeping up with it. I guess I could try making another couple of them and see if 3 can manage it? Otherwise that little box just stays completely full of wisps the entire time. I'm probably already past the point where I even need the ethereal essence, I have a whole lot of it sitting in my ME system already.

The other night I also realized some other weird changes in this pack... for instance, Sheep Essence does absolutely nothing. It's only useful for making upgraded infusion stones and Crucio ingots. Similarly, I could swear Skeleton Essence could be used for making arrows... but it can't in this pack, which is a shame, because I have a Hungry Node fairly nearby and I wanted to feed it a steady supply of arrows. I can make the arrows manually, but it's kind of a pain. I suppose I could make a T5 skeleton spawner and just dump out all the drops besides arrows, might not be a bad idea actually.

got a nether gate up at the mine entrance, its very safe netherside, buried deep in the ground, had to dig a long tunnel to get out into the open nether.

Also got an alloy smelter and sag mill up and ready, with a hardened energy cell, complete with wiring for the stirling engines. So its ready for you to use them, if you do use the sag mill put a stack of flint in its optional slot for a better chance at secondaries, and occasionally check the stirlings if they have fuel.

    @Echo

highest tier is subjective on desired outcome in 1.7.

in 1.10, from what I understand, they got rid of modifiers..so your materials dictate if your weapon/tool has knockback, works underwater, has a larger action radius, etc.

Geezus fuck... has anyone here ever killed the Draconic Evolution Chaos Guardian solo? What an insane fight... I completed it, but I had jump back to my base to refill my draconic battery about 3 times because he was absolutely tearing through my full draconic armor, with various protection enchants. Though either I've been getting really unlucky, or does Blast Protection not exist in 1.7.10? I haven't gotten one from my auto-enchanter yet anyway.

I'm rather liking Hardcore Ender Expansion as well, although I'm curious how I'm going to get more research points in it, because I've 'discovered' a good majority of things it seems like, and there's a ton of shit to unlock in the compendium still.
