Thanks very much to @BillyIdle and @GMaster7 (hopefully I've got the forum names correct) for my first go at Trials last night and letting me fill the 3rd spot. Got incredibly lucky in terms of drops and finding myself in a team that was able to carry me. I'm slightly chuffed we made it to 8 wins and thus finish all of the quests. Hopefully GMaster7 managed to reach the lighthouse with the 2nd character he brought along (I think he was sitting at 6-0).
Some completely crazy games, including one where we came back from 4-1 down (pretty sure this was against a team which included a guy called i_am_pr3d4tor86), and I think it was BillyIdle that got some angry mail after another game.
Fun times was had by me certainly and needless to say I laughed a lot at some of the chat.

In destiny related news, I have reached the resource gather phase of my first exotic sword quest. It is the opposite of the fun.
EDIT: also, void ability kills on a titan is beyond the negative value of not fun
@morgan_coke
Guard with your sword until you run out of ammo (this part is key, if you use the sword before you're out of ammo by guarding it doesn't work), then punch people in the face with the hilt. That will net you the void kills. It's still a lot of grinding but it certainly will be easier than using just grenades and melee.
Yesterday during Trials, @Haphazard , @elijahdprophet and me were playing against some French/Walloon people, and we managed to turn a 4-0 loss into in 4-5 win, netting us our first hate message ever
We got insulted in French for being "a bunch of cheats" bit I silenced them into submission by answering in flawless, syntactically correct French that we were just very very lucky
I now also noticed that my Osiris helmet has a bubble "Gain super when reviving teammates", have we had that one before on any other helmets?

I have a desire to do Trials tonight on my hunter, but have no time until super late. Anyone want to give it a go around 1030 EST tonight? Link to game thingie.
I'd like to do the spindle sometime today and maybe take another crack at trials. I'm not good but I feel like I could do better with a team of three instead of me, @metaghost and a guy who just quit trying.

I've heard the Spindle mission is a tad ... difficult, and alas, I still cap out at 297. Is the consensus that that's too low to be likely to pull it off?

Nah, 297 should be alright. People were doing it before the raid even launched.

Nah, I did it with a party of 290s second week. Just a bit tricky with execution: one on boss, two on orbs and adds til they're cleared out. Stormcaller and Sunbreaker do well there.

That's more than high enough to do the Spindle mission. Regardless of LL, it might take some practice and the strategic knowhow of somehow who has already completed it.
299 LL stormcaller here, I'm working but working from home and would happily move my lunch break around to accommodate an attempt at the spindle mission.

doesn't sound like being around LL 210 is going to be enough to try for the spindle, huh? :P
i could give it a shot on PS4 this evening if anyone needs a third for a fireteam for it (LL 295 there, so maybe more possible)
Apparently everybody knows about the WAR-4 ghost scan thing:
Getting into the bunker required multiple scans of 4 pairs of eyes simultaneously, but it has been opened multiple times over the past hundred years with the same sets. Ghost speculates that they were either early guardians or SOMETHING has kept them preserved.
Which is interesting.
A separate mystery that I haven't seen much discussion of is in REGICIDE:
When Oryx invites you over the gap there is the opportunity to scan statues, there are three:
One to the left of the door, one to the right and one through the door.
The right statue represents Crota, the middle Oryx and the one to the left Nokris.
Your ghost says that it is having trouble translating the glyphs and that Nokris isn't mentioned in the library of the World's Grave
I'm trying to assimilate that into the Book of Sorrows, which I just finished reading (which is pretty cool! But starts off better than it finishes).
Which leads me to the next question, Book of Sorrows:
What is the Leviathin?
Re: the second spoiler:
Yeah that's an interesting one. I spotted that my first time through and was surprised to see a lot of people missed it. I feel like that is going to tie into the part of the Books of Sorrow where someone (I forget who) "wrote" on the page something about the book being full of lies. The other option is that Nokris was written out of existence by the Vex, but that might be hitting that particular well too many times.
Re: book of sorrow graffiti
That was Savathun, the cunning one.
Also, I am curious as to what the:
Helium Drinkers and Stormjoys were
Oh I know about who wrote it, but what I mean is that if what she wrote was true...
...and that the text was full of lies, it could also be a thing that truth was omitted entirely. Or hell, maybe the level designer for Regicide threw that in well after the BoS was written and it's an oversight? I'd like to think there's a reason Nokris isn't mentioned that is lore-related.
I decided to just do some patrols and have some fun instead of beating my head against Regicide. I'll go back to it in a bit.
I picked up Takionaut. I had far more Strange coins than I thought I had and wanted a toy for when I reached 40. Even it it isn't the best toy it's still significantly better than anything I have right now.
Mostly just huntin' monsters.

Still hoping to down Oryx hard mode for the first time tonight. Maybe LFG will bless me with a good group. My gut feeling is that the no-knight strat is gimping people since it requires you to hide from the ogres. I mean, how hard is it for people to just aim their sniper to the opposite corner and burn down a knight?
ben_bot, I've got the checkpoint for Sisters on HM if you need that (you're PS4 right?). Depending on what time you wanted to try to down them, I'd be into doing it. I've never cleared Sisters on HM, nor Oryx. I wouldn't be able to run it until 9:30 or 10:00 tonight eastern, though.
Is a Smite of Merain with bad back-side perks (Life Support and a trio of things that don't increase Stability, say) worth keeping around, or could it be fed to my Nirwen's?
Nirwen's Mercy ...hungers...

I gave Smite a fair shot, but decided it's really not touching the current cream of the crop (Hawksaw, Nirwen's, Grasp, Exotic Pulses).
So I had the tokens to buy a Year2 Red Death and I don't know if its the aim or what but I am sucking it up with this thing. I keep switching back to my Apple of Discord mid game. I have Red Death already leveled up and everything, but it's just not working for me. I think I am either going to buy Y2 Suros Regime or a new Hawksaw.

These are personal opinions about each HM Oryx strat. I've been part of both strats working successfully a couple times each.
No-Knights:
PRO: doable by people at lower light or groups of players who only have 2 or 3 ToMs in their fireteam.
CON: very random about causing people to die (ogres can arbitrarily decide to focus-fire players down, tomb ship's Axion Dart can catch players unaware, etc) and is therefore very incosistent.
CON: Knights can still consume Corrupted Light even after detonation, and it's difficult to know exactly how many have done damage to Oryx
Kill Knights:
PRO: Safer and more consistent.
CON: Requires more damage from players, and therefore higher Light and 4+ ToMs (maybe even 5+).
For either strat, people who are responsible for platforms on the Oryx-side of the encounter need to be extremely aware of Tomb Ships. Axion Dart is a bullshit one-shot even at 312, and there's not much way to avoid it unless your platform-runner is quick.
I prefer killing knights because your group's success is dependent on killing everything instead of hoping things don't kill you - it feels much safer and more consistent. I didn't feel very heroic cowering on the edge of a platform praying that the adjacent Ogre wouldn't find an angle to hit me.

@DodgeBlan and @Disrupter were both kind enough to allow me to tag along with them to complete my Trials Gold Pack bounty. And while we didn't do as well as we wanted/hoped, we did very well I think. If they had had a more competent teammate, I'm sure they would have done a lot better. As it was, I appreciated the time and company. Although my wife did say I was being very loud last night...let's not tell her that I was accidentally muted for a match at the end there though.
Total loot from my Trials weekend were Arms and Chest at the 260 range, Boots at 300, a 305 Warlock Bond (highest yet!) and a 302 Void Trials Fusion Rifle. Charges slow, but hits HARD. Might be fun! Regardless, that's at least one thing I'll keep, and either marks or food for my hungrier items.
And I agree, the addition of the Trials bounties makes it much more likely for me to run it. I may never make it to the lighthouse, but I'm more than willing to spend time in the event on the off chance that I'll get something for my time. So, in that regard, Bungie has increased the potential pool of participants by one at least.

I have not been successful with the no-knights strategy, and really hate it, because I always feel like we have no control over 75% of the encounter. When we're killing the knights, and doing it well, it feels like it's all in our hands. If we don't fuck up, we win. If we wipe, I want to wipe because of mistakes we made, and could correct. I guess if you have no choice because of the level, then you have no choice.
And maybe I'm really shitty at hiding from ogres, but I have no idea how people have managed to survive 4 rounds of ogres without one deciding to smoke the guardian on the opposing platform. It must be doable, because it's what everyone on lfg wants to do. I got through it with liberal use of smoke + Ahamkara.

Which is why at 0-0 we got paired against a team that was 0-3 (1 loss forgiven) whom we soundly crushed.
Then at 4-3 (1 loss forgiven) we got paired against a 4-0 team with flawless emblems that annihilated us.
Seems... less than ideal.
