so i noticed this IB that i got the chest like 3 times, and even though i was higher light level than other people that got it, they were getting like 305-310 and i was getting like 270-300
also you know how the guy who comes in last always gets a good reward?
happened every match i was in except if i came in last

Nothing will ever beat the extreme trolliness of Crucible awarding the AFK player with 0 kills and 19 deaths - A Gjallarhorn.
I just forgot to screenshot it, I think it happened during the first Irradiated Bonbon.

oh man
the number of times this week it was like 9855 - 7800 in favor of my team and we lost because everyone just goes stupid as soon as they hear "YOU'VE ALMOST WON"
As much as parts of it can (as always) be an RNG crapshoot, I have to say that I'm really happy with the way the rewards system functioned in this week's Iron Banner.
You get to rank 5, you get something awesome that's most likely going to be an upgrade. Even though I wanted the helmet, I'll take a 320 Titan towel. It beats having to throw on my 30 light one right before every win (except the close ones), and now I can represent the Banner everywhere I go. Big upgrade over my 306 NM King's Fall one.
Lower-light armor pieces and guns seemed to drop very regularly, including some matches where everyone or almost-everyone would get a purple drop at the end of the match.
It's just what this IB needed at just the right time. People are playing a little less because we've tackled endgame and because other games are coming out left and right, but I felt motivated to get two characters to rank 5 this weekend instead of spending my time elsewhere. And it helped that the PA fireteams were a lot of fun.
It's all RNG. The package at the end is welcome, but the drop rates were garbage for me.
I got all of two drops while getting my Titan to rank five. That's hardly an improvement over last IB's drop rates. My Warlock alt fared a bit better with two drops by rank 5, and my Hunter alt only got one by rank 5. I had better luck during year one, and House of Wolves Iron Banner was dropping BTRDs and Ash Factories and all sorts of other awesome Crucible guns the whole time, too.
Saladin also only offers one version of each armor piece, rather than the two he used to sell. Both need to be heavily infused, anyway.
RNG is RNG!
My Titan only needs the helmet for the full set too. I don't know if I'll be able to get it tonight though. She got at least 3 legendaries last night; chest, ghost, arms?
Unfortunately my Warlock doesn't even have enough infusable gear get her to an IB competitive state; she's 198 light or so... so no IB for her.
Though this might be the first time there will be enough Iron Banners before the gear is thrown out to complete the set... and maybe even add some sense of permanence to your items?

being good should be its own reward or something
If the end-of-game rewards were solely merit based, then the crucible population of this game would wither. People whine and cheat the system when they have to do any form of merit-based crucible stuff as it is. What Bungie did there with the loot is still a good thing.
Since people can't seem to handle other people getting things and them not, they really should just hide that entirely. They already (indirectly?) took a step in that direction by us not seeing what epics/exotics the opposing team picked up at the end of match. Just go all the way and put an end to this.

I would argue that seeing what other people on your team gets inspires you to also keep playing in the hope that you will be the "lucky one" in your match. That's how it seems to work on me.
Now that I think about it, you probably get both reactions, honestly. "Screw it, I'm done, everyone else gets the good stuff, never me, screw this noise" and "He got a Gjallarhorn?? Damn, that could have been me! One more time, let's go!"
(Can you tell I got my first Y1 Gjallarhorn in a Crucible match almost a year ago? I still remember my reaction. It was along the lines of "ARGHBLBLSDLKSBDGJALLARHORN!?!")
Much thanks to all the various folks who crossed my path in the banner last night. Had a couple of great groups going, which was a blast as usual. The drop system is so much better this time around, as my hunter was able to assemble not only an almost-complete set of IB gear, but a set with the best perk rolls I could ask for. Well done, Bungie.
Radiation Are we going to trial tonight? We should. This is it. Shooting mans. Completing bounties. Maybe winning.
Yes! We have to!
Wife is on a Hunger Games movie marathon for our Thursday viewing of the last one, so I have to juggle that, but I think I can do like 9 EST? If earlier I will message you.
@radiation@rndmhero unfortunately I can't guarantee I'll be on at 8 EST but I will be on. My wife's sister is in town and we have a family dinner. I'm going to try and push to be home by 730ish CST so hopefully I can get online for trials with you guys. I've been super flaky lately and I apologize. Once things settle down with this new kid I should be able to be more consistent.
My time has been so constrained I'm yet o even get more than 2 games IB in.

I get the argument that there should be rewards for everyone who participates, else you wouldn't have anyone but the hardest core participating.
I agree with that, I just think maybe it could be done better so that the guy tanking the team doesn't walk away with the best reward.
Allegedly a voice of reason.

Never say never! I am a player that can go 4/20 (literally) in one match and then 28/5 the next. Many of the aspects of PvP that folks loathe (like Luck in the Chamber and Shotguns with stupidly long range) are manifestations of gameplay variance that can help even the scrubbiest mongoloid feel like an MLG pro every once in a while.
Also, it helps to have a team of PA folks back you up if you get the opportunity.

like, in my made up tiers of "materials/good/great/best" rewards, maybe the bottom three players on the losing team should be ineligible for good/best rewards and the top three on the winning team can only get good/best rewards?
the middle six (top three losing, bottom three winning) can get any of them
I think that would be a more fair distribution than purely random

i came close a few times but got edged out at the end of the match
The thing is, if you're constantly pulling top score then chances are most gear is crap to you.
I mean there's like 3-4 perfect rolls on guns I want that would be an improvement. (Hidden hand 1kys and hipfire/Icarus hand cannon) Not much for armor either. So most drops are just legendary marks towards another cryptarch special weapon engram...

i don't think there's a way to fix that without constant gear inflation, so

It's not that I'm completely awful* in PvP. I used to play a ton of Halo, basically everything between Halo 2 and Halo 4/Reach. And this is basically Halo: The MMORPG. But I'm pretty dang rusty and am basically only a couple weeks old. Combine that with the fact that going all the way back to my Halo roots, the large team slayer gametypes have consistently been my weakest, I'm just not going to manage to beat all 11 other people in the remaining 1 evening I have of this IB. I've only managed to crack third on my team maybe 3 times this week.
Now, if the next IB is skirmish, or rift or something? Ya'll better watch out.

Made it to like 57% through that Jolly Holliday quest last night. First time using TLW in PvP. Pretty fun gun, although not really my style. Hopefully I can finish the rest off tonight in case there's another silly "wait until armsday" step like there was for the Imprecation one.

Tomorrow night at 8:00pm EST, with Iron Banana out of the way, I'll be venturing into the Sunless Cell with @Wraith260 to wrap up some Exotic Sword quests-- and we could use an extra hand or two.
We're definitely doing a Solar run for Raze-Lighter; I also need an Arc run for Bolt-Caster. I'll also help with Void if anyone needs it. (Hopefully we can knock out more than one element in a single run.)
If you need to finish your Sword quest too (or are just feeling super magnanimous), come join us!

Now that you can buy the legendary swords from Shaxx will it still let you skip the crucible part or does that only happen if I get the swords on a different character and transfer them?

but yeah, if anyone else needs to finish their sword quest jump in.
By the way, I'm down for a bunch of IB tonight on PS4. Need to get my Hunter from rank 2 or 3 to 5 (shouldn't be hard with weekly bounties almost done) and then will probably play a few more with my rank 5 Titan to see if I can get that elusive helmet.
