Nothing quite like being in draft as Songhai and summoning down a Jax Truesight after giving your general ranged and having another 2/3 ranged fucker on the field.

Yeah, after that play they just went "whelp, well played"and peaced out with 15 life left. I don't blame them one bit.

    Oh man.

That feeling when you have one turn left to play, and the only real move gives you a 20% chance odds at success...and works.

Holy shit, the salt the other guy must be feeling right now.

just one free legendary actually - the way they handle cards with unique skins is that they show up as separate cards in your card collection, but you're still considered to only have 1 for deck construction

I have no idea what a spirit orb is, but I've been waffling about maybe trying this game for ages, so I guess this might as well be the week I create an account.

    The system works!

    spirit orbs are basically packs

also if you haven't made an account yet there is totally a referral system you should take advantage of

I did already create the account. It looks like I only missed out on 100 gold, though? Not a big deal if the economy is as identical to Hearthstone's as it looks like it is.

Also this tutorial asks you to commit suicide like two or three times.

i would say i actually feel like i earn packs at a slightly faster rate than in hearthstone, though it's hard to say because it's been so long since i had the hearthstone new player experience

they actually nerfed the gold you earn from some of the quests a little bit ago because they were like "tbh we are actually giving away too much and it is hurting our bottom line"

Dang, my Hearthstone brain is having a hard time adapting to two-dimensional thinking. Every time I summon a minion I immediately regret its positioning.

In spite of that, I'm undefeated in my climb out of Bronze so far, not that I expect that's impressive. I've been playing Magmar, purely because they're who my daily quest rolled. Having your general tear the enemy general apart bare-handed has proved to be an easy way to close out games at this level. Gotta be careful not to draw in the mirror, though (what happens in a draw, anyway?).

Magmar's definitely a good faction to learn your ropes with, even if it suffered quite a bit with the release of Shim'zar (at the higher levels of competition anyway).

And I recommend being very experimental with your positioning. It can be easy to get stuck in routine behaviors of choosing positions that have the least amount of downside, rather than exploring those placements that can manipulate the opponent's actions in order to leverage better turns in the future.

yeah it's probably the best neutral minion introduced since the expansion, and when they nerf a card you get full disenchant value for a bit

What are the good counters to ranged units?

I introduced a friend to the game and they like it, but they think ranged units are horribly broken

    6F32U1X.png
  • Options
I needed anime to post.I needed anime to post. boom Registered User regular
well for starters most every faction will have some manner of spell which can just deal with something they can't reach, whether by literally damaging them or by repositioning them somewhere more desirable

in addition, using a Dispel effect on a unit will remove the Ranged ability

and if you want to say "FUCK. RANGED. UNITS." there's Crossbones, a 3 mana 3/3 that says "destroy target ranged unit"

What does a good early-game curve look like when you take mana runes into account? I've been having a hard time grasping this. More often than not I waste them to deny them to my enemy.

It doesn't help that I have a serious dearth of playable 2-cost minions. I run 3x Healy Gnome Person, 2x Reverse Swamp Ooze, 1x 2/3 Magmar Rebirth Lizard, and that's sort of all I own. And it really isn't enough, so I had to pad it out with the 1-cost 2/1 Ping Warlocks who I haven't really used effectively yet. And I don't think I'm much better off in the 3s department.

That and lack of spells has really been holding me back. My gameplan is kind of just "flail around impotently until turn 5, then kill everything with Dancing Blades and draw into burst".

I like 'em when you're just staring each other down, both one turn away from killing each other

but it's your turn and you Replaced the only card left in your hand and got a Rush minion and now you'rea gonna win.

I have a 56% win rate now. You had all better watch your keisters.

you have the right idea, 2-3 healy guy, 3 tigers (basically required) , 2-3 primus fist, and 2-3 jax are pretty much the standard aggro(and midrange) early game list

dancing blade is pretty much a required inclusion and the shieldmaster is a nice autoinclude as well

i think jax is much less popular ever since he got nerfed but kara lists will still run him because, you know, that hero power

    liEt3nH.png
  • Options
Tommy2HandsTommy2Hands what is this where am i Registered User regular
yeah, jax is definitely the least required of those I listed unless you're playing songhai

he's still a great add in a pinch though because him plus an attack from your general can kill a lot of the 2/3s that get played in the early game and you still get a ranged dude

I assume by "tigers" you mean the 3/2 Rush guys? I always have 2-3 of them. And I always have 3x Shieldmasters and 3x Dancing Blades as my 4/5 core (I lucked out in getting the Blades). Primus Fist is what I WISH I had, but alas. I didn't realize that Jaxi was a thing, though...not that I have any.

What 3s are standard besides Tiger? Seems like there are a lot of duds at that mana point.

it really depends on what you wanna do, most of the classes have decent three drops creatures you can run

I think spelljammer is a three drop as well and that one is a pretty highly recommended legendary in higher ranking decks

I really like prismatic illusionist but you have to be playing a cheap, spell heavy deck to get some milage out of him

crimson oculus is a good one for control decks

also, Sojourner is another auto include depending on what class you're playing

honestly, when you hit three mana, be it either through a mana spring or on turn three most of time you'd rather play a one drop like the 2/1 that pings a dude for one + a 2/3 two drop

e: I don't know why I forgot to mention it but I just want to emphasize that crafting two sojourners really made my aggro decks last a lot longer as they tend to draw big removal spells and if they don't the card advantage is really really nice.
