I would really like to do more grouping but am very self conscious about how bad I am. Also, the few times I've asked in discord everyone was already busy. Just keep asking in discord?

I haven't asked in a few days, but it was evening about 8pm est.
If you're worried about being bad, I will totally use some off weapon and be even worse for the solidarity.
Because man me with a longsword or Gunlance is pretty horrible.
I'm fairly sure most people are terrible with the gunlance, but I try to make it work at some point every game. It's just so slow, and blocking is inferior to dodging in almost every way. It looks cool though, and nothing else can really match it.
A weapon you're bad at. So, for me, for example, it could be Duals. I literally can't for the life of me understand why anyone would use Duals and I can get near-carted by an Iodrome when I try to use them. They just don't click in my brain.

I've been thinking of what monsters I want to appear in every single game from now on. The list I have so far is:
Rathian: It's iconic, and works fairly well as a fight.
Rathalos: Sure, why the hell not.
Diablos: It's so big, angry, and chargey, and the games need something like that. More specifically, something like that that isn't Tigrex.
Nargacuga: It's the monster that made Capcom realize that designing monsters that didn't completely suck might actually work. Also its equipment is awesome.
Zinogre: The charge-up mechanic is neat.
Brachydios: Explosions.
Seltas Queen: The mechanic is neat, and the Seltas alone fills a useful niche that no other monster I've seen really does.
Gigginox: Capcom is going to include a penis monster no matter what, and it sure as hell shouldn't be Khezu.
Gore Magala: It's a dragon. And the frenzy mechanic is neat. And it's a dragon.
I wish there was a Yamatsukami fight every game. He's hilarious and fun. Especially since you can use the "Despair" gesture to avoid the Wheel of Fortune spin attack.
Lagiacrus: the iconic Leviathan type. Perhaps a bit samey in execution with Zinogre, but it's got some nice moves.
Agnaktor: there will always be a volcano level, and Agnaktor's molten armor mechanic makes for a really interesting combination of location and monster mechanics
Jehn or Dahren Mohran: a bit time consuming, but those fights have always been quite cool and fairly fun.
Ceadeus: not a super serious suggestion , but I just challenge Capcom to see if they can pull off that monster without swimming mechanics.

A poor Ceadeus ends up beached and flops around for half an hour before it suffocates.
I was thinking the exact same thing! A beached Ceadeus just sits there, rolling around occasionally. It's a pure DPS check... you just have to do enough damage to kill him before the timer runs out, and he rolls back into the ocean. Pro-strat is to activate Felyne Heroics by bombing yourself.
That'd be some quest. You can try to put it out of its misery while avoiding its OHKO body slams on you, or you can sit there for half an hour grilling raw meat.
I was more envisioning a fight where the party is on a small island or waterborne Dragonship around which a Ceadeus is circling and popping up to slap the entire area with its fins or firing giant water blasts. And eventually, it just coils its tail around the area, making it so it's always hittable, but always dangerous.
But perhaps a beached whale DPS check is the fight we need, and the one we deserve.

I mean, we joke about this, but that essentially was Lao Shan Lung and Shen Gaoren fights in MHF2/U.
I appreciate any monster that brings something unique to the table.
That's why I used to like khezu a lot, but only like him somewhat now. When he was actually blind it was neat, because it took that part out of the fight--you couldn't superman dive, for example, because you were never in the sighted condition. If you're going to take that away, then why bother? (Even though, in contrast to most, I do also like its design enough on its own visually, for being unique.)
Same with yian garuga for how it's so pissed off, but is also smarter than most monsters--smart enough that it can recognize and avoid traps.
Blangonga might seem like the poor man's Rajang, but it (along with the other ape) had the poop mechanics (which are shared with many more monsters now). Even without that, they still have a unique ability to remove paintballs, which is neat.
Even Gypceros plays dead, and the flash instead of a roar. Or tigrex roar that does damage if you're too close.
I wouldn't be opposed to bigger overhauls for some of those classic monsters, though.
Are all hammers just absolute garbage for status effects? I'm still low rank, but the highest status hammer value I've seen so far was 24. The lowest was 4.

It has a built in status so they're usually balanced with that in mind.

Mostly just huntin' monsters.

Ceadeus is kind of a boring fight, in my opinion. Bring back Dire Miralis instead. In general, I wish more of the stronger Elder Dragons came back more often. The classic four are comparatively lame now, and probably wouldn't even be Elder Dragons if they were designed today.
Yeah, I kind of feel like anything that isn't calling for ballistas and shit in the fight isn't worthy of being called an elder dragon.
Like, look at the difference between Kushala and say Alatreon. Kushala feels like it's more on the level of maybe Azure Los at best in difficulty. Alatreon, Miralis, etc are all true monsters that feel like you're staring down oblivion.
I guess Akantor and Ukanlos don't have ballista in the arenas, but they get a pass for being holy fuck scale and firepower. Akantor and it's arena-clearing death ray for instance.

4* still has a few. I just got to 5* and it's pretty much all hunts front to back
Adept style just destroys Gypceros. Yes, please, use your super-telegraphed flash bomb attack. Maybe I won't use it as ammo this time.
I'm usually still at work at that time.

Knocking a flying critter right out of the air is one of the simple pleasures.

I like to shoot them down with my gunlance.
Also, ask me or @manji when he decides to join us for this, if he's gonna, about Gunlance.

I think they toned down YKK and Garuga a bit in their LR incarnations.
The HR Garuga seems pretty much intact in terms of level of idiocy.
It wouldn't be fair if Blangonga did that because conventional weaponry is no match for icy bm's.
It has a built in status so they're usually balanced with that in mind.

Also disappointed that they didn't bring back Nerscylla for G. Seltas Queen is great and all, but I need more bugs.
