Apparently a gunman has entered the building on NASA that houses mission control and opened fire (?). That building and the surrounding area has been evacuated. More details forthcoming, but not much else so far.

HOUSTON – A building at the Johnson Space Center was evacuated Friday after reports of a gunman inside, police said.
Space center security officers and Houston police were dispatched to the building, which houses communications equipment and a laboratory.
NASA spokesman Bill Jeffs said he could not confirm whether there was a gunman or whether any shots were fired. “It's an ongoing situation,” he said.
Roads within the 1,600-acre campus were blocked off. A nearby middle school also kept its teachers and students inside as the school day ended.
Neither Jeffs nor police spokesman John Cannon would confirm television reports describing a gunman and his actions.
Christine Reichert, space station flight controller at the space center, said employees were being told to stay in their buildings.
Doors to Mission Control were locked as standard procedure.

That is, according to some people I've worked with there.
For safety of the employees in other buildings, people at other locations were allowed to leave for home finally about 20 minutes ago.
So he probably was a paper pusher or something since they do mostly logistical and staffing stuff. I don't think they cross over into technical.
....what?
Is this going to scare off all the terrorists?
Just some details on the situation. Although he might have worked for Jacobs Engineering, but I distinctly heard Jacobson from someone next door to that building.
Contractors don't do technical stuff?
What insane world are you living in?
i'm thinking maybe the refference was made to the specific contracting company.
maybe.
i mean, it makes sense.
Did you work at that facility?
edit: He appears to have shot one guy in the chest and then it turned into a hostage situation. Shot himself in the head.
Bloody hell.

And without any details it's more than a bit premature to call this NASA thing a copycat event. The timing may simply be coincidental.
I'd say it's just a coincidence.
I heard nothing about this, is this true or was he fabricating this?
Unless you are in the military.
Co-workers, then.
Unless you're 007 in Casino Royale.
I'm pretty sure if James showed up in the ministry of defense and started randomly picking people off, M might have something to say about it.
...
So have they even released the guy's identity yet?
It's happened before. I can't find the article, but several years ago a student brought a gun to school and shot himself in front of his class. There's probably more than one incident of it, but it's hard to find any article on it with all of the latest coverage popping up and without a name or date.
Edit: Found it, his name was Jeremy Delle. He killed himself in front of his second period English class.
...
These are terrorists.
Apparently he was an engineer.
No they're not. They're just crazy people.
And crazy people don't commit terrorism.
Don't be a dick.
Or you're the Veep.
Between this and the "let's play Swimming With Sharks" roadtrip lady, NASA appears to be having some personnel problems.
Not if you have a good union!
