WiFi Help

When we recently moved into our new house, we had the option of going with a fiber optic connection or stay with TWC on their highest speed extremely discounted price. When the TWC was installing the lines, I had him just use the modem's router instead of a third party because I don't want to reset three things when the connection goes down. Now we've had the internet for three months and it's never once dropped. I had three tablets running netflix, two phones downloading large media files, and my Bose streaming radio.

To the problem. My laptop sitting on my lap can't connect to the WiFi but all these other devices are no problem.

Edit:Also I can connect to the WiFi with my laptop from the first floor but not sitting right next to it in the basement.

WTF?

My instinct is a bad wifi card in the laptop, but a few things first.
Have you tried connecting the laptop to other wifi connections? Will it work with an Ethernet connection? These two questions can help determine if there is a hardware problem, or maybe an issue with your services files or IP stack.

Yes to both. It works fine with a wired connection and automatically connects to my work and school wifi.
