Apache and Swing Dances

Ok prom is tomorrow and I'm trying to cram in some dance moves so I don't look completely lame. I found a couple of videos for the "Apache (dance)" by the sugarhill gang, but i cannot find a full video of it. My friends told me YouTube had a version where something about jump roping goes on.

I know the basics of swing dancing, but want to spice it up just a little bit, too, so are there any videos that aren't competition videos out there? I can't find anything but those.

While I can't point you in the right direction for what you're looking for I can assure you that not finding it won't cause you to look completely lame, so I wouldn't worry about it. Almost no one at prom knows how to dance at all, let alone doing fancy stuff, so it's no big deal.

During faster music everyone stands in a group and talks to their friends. Then when the slow songs come you go off with your date and sway to the music with her while trying not to poke her with your boner from thinking about getting laid later. That's how every highschool dance I attended went, and as I usually was dating a girl from a different school, I went to twice as many of them.

That's how every dance I went to was... out in BFE. My freshmen year of college I took a girl from the city to her prom and people actually danced during the fast music (which I just made up as I went).

However, dancing like a dork is acceptable and cool in it's own right, and as long as your having fun no one will question what you're doing.

Yeah: steps to dance like a dork while not looking like a dork

1. DANCE TO THE BEAT
2. BE HAVING FUN, no one looks as pathetic as a guy looking sad while dancing like crazy
3. DANCE WITH GROUPS OF OTHER ENTHUSED PEOPLE (preferably more than one). If you have any friends present, try to get them to start, cause after all they want to have a good time too.

Anyone that tries to make people feel self-conscious for wanting to have a good time is a complete dick and doesn't merit attention.

At least that's my opinion :P.

Look for jitterbug or swing. Both are super easy for the more basic stuff, and are one of the best ways to look cool even if you are a big goofy white boy with two left feet (speaking from experience). Learned it in college and it was great.

You spin your date around like a top, she has a blast and you look cool doing it. Plus if you are not into dancing there are certain moves you can do that will make your date ready to sit down and relax.
