Buttcleft, you keep talking about how you don't use VATS and melee people with your gun butt. That's not "the game is scathingly hard at early levels" that's you handicapping yourself with a weird strategy. Are you using vats yet? You're talking about how hard it is but I know TheKoolEagle is playing on a much harder difficulty and not having much trouble, and personally I'm not having any trouble whatsoever at early levels on the normal difficulty, and I put the power armor away as soon as I got it.
Also people who are annoyed you get end game armor at the start, you didn't. The set you get to start with is the worst possible set of power armor. It's better than not having it, but certainly nothing game breaking.
As seems to be the case with games whenever someone has a hard time they say "the game must be broken" even when other people aren't having a hard time.
People really don't like accepting that they are the problem if something is hard. Whether it be their strategy or just general skill with the type of game it is.
Yeah except, I'm not alone. Theres dozens upon dozens of reports similar to mine.
But sure, I just suck, lets go with that.
I never said that. That's why I said skill/strategy. Sometimes people don't fully understand the systems/builds/combat of a game and aren't using it to the fullest. Which given the last few posts seem to be the case here.

So do enemies scale with you as you gain levels like in Skyrim? Or is it dependent on location, I've read that the further you go to the opposite southeast corner of the map, the harder things are.
both.
Each area has a set level range, and than it scales within that range.
the top end seems quite high in most areas too
im finding all kinda shit everywhere now im level 50
im not sure how much i like it as i always liked the idea of finding some swag ass weapons early but eh
The only armor piercing receivers that I've seen are automatics. I wish I knew precisely how big of a boon the armor piercing effect is (Bethesda, why do you love bland and uninformitive UI's?) . Is it worth the loss in damage ?
I don't think shotguns are a good idea against deathclaws. If I understand the match correct, their damage is distributed amongst each pellet. So shotguns have a much harder time overcoming the high damage resistance of stuff like death claws and power armored troops.
Unless you're lucky enough to have a +bleed shotgun, which will proc a half dozen bleed procs.
I have killed at least two deathclaws by running up and pumping shotgun shells into their face from short range. It's fun! But I definitely don't recommend it for anything other than your base level, non-skull deathclaw.
Also, for the person who asked, there was a tip on one of the loading screens classifying combat shotguns as rifles, so yes, they count. I use one now with the Rifleman perk and it's glorious.

I've gotten one on a pipe pistol, and on the Overseer thing (Combat Rifle) from Vault 81. But that 2nd one seems pretty set. Not sure how good it is....
Also... are there energy damage bullets? Why would one have 30% off armor and energy resistance?

I wonder if this is just a RPG/Shooter thing.
Cause I play a lot of both so FO4's mix is easy for me to pick up.

I put an armor piercing attachment to my Legendary pipe wrench and I saw a marked difference against heavily armored things like Mirelurks. But I eventually got weapons that simply outpaced its damage by x2 so I figured 2x PIP boy damage must be better.

When I started the game and was leaving vault 111, I dearly wanted the game to give me an opportunity to pick the master lock with my single Bobby pin to get the cryolator.

No bullets as far as I know. There are some energy weapons that do both ballistic and energy (or radiation) damage at the same time though.

I had Cait pick the lock for me.
Though now I don't know what to do with it. I can't give it to a companion cause they'll chew through the ammo. And all my points are in melee.

As someone playing on Normal
Yo this game isn't very hard, difficulty doesn't seem bugged at all unless it's a case by case basis, but I'd wager it's just people making things more difficult for themselves somehow
EDIT: I also haven't taken any damage increasing perks because I can't decide between rifles or pistols

Right but was that from a mod of some kind? Or from a base ability?
Because I've got a couple '30% armor and energy resist ignore' weapons. But they can't have multiple special abilities. So unless there is some sort of gun mod that changes damage type, it is literally impossible to do energy damage with this gun.

I just slapped the Swan around last night and my best gun is like 60 damage. People are vastly overstating what you need, at least on Normal.
Half the time I run around with a 19 damage pipe gun because I have a few thousand .38 bullets.
The .38 is plenty for standard raiders and ghouls and only needs a few more for the next step up. I one shot most of those with my 10mm pistol. Two shotting them isn't exactly a huge downgrade in terms of difficulty.
Still, the poster mentioned damage numbers that sound like there aren't perks OR mods and not having either is a bigger issue than only having some of one.

Legendary ability thingy. So it adds that damage on top of the ballistic damage.

If you go the Gun Nut/Science route, there are absolutely ways to switch the ammo a gun is using, add flamer capability, etc. Also, plasma weapons do both ballistic and energy damage simultaneously, I think, so that perk might be in there to benefit them.
so whats the cap output of the trading posts and how often do they generate the sweet sweet cappy goodness.
Very low. It takes 1500-3000 caps to create a top end shop, and they generate maybe 50ish caps a day from what I've seen so far.
It does let you concentrate a lot of vendors in one spot for making money by selling all your help excess stuff.
The real money is in the water purification business.
Yep. I've got a coastal settlement that produces about 400 bottles of purified water a day. They sell for about 20 caps a piece. I have another settlement that's just high end shops for me to sell to.

Also, protip for fighting synths: their limbs seem to be extra fragile. Blast off their gun arm and they usually have to resort to charging you.

50 Damage on a shotgun is bad news. I have a double-barreled monster named Deathbitch that does over 120. And I think I'm only up to Gun Nut 2.

Video would be better if behind him were a bunch of dead bodies for him using all his resources on something completely useless!

Seems to be based off of how many unemployed settlers you have, so pretty darn low. Every day I think some caps get added to the workshop.
Last I checked in Sanctuary I had 71 caps from the three I have set up, so they'll pay themselves off in... a month of ingame time.
Yeah. Proper documentation is a big issue .

Not that it matters because you can steal a gauss rifle from the BoS HQ that I went to right after.
