i felt bad for them... I milled away, like, 15 cards and took minimal damage to the face.

So the priest deck I posted a few pages ago has gone through some evolutions. I think it's done?
Inner Fire x2
Northshire Cleric x2
Light of the Naaru x2
Power Word: Shield x2
Convert x1
Divine Spirit x2
Museum Curator x2
Shadow Word: Pain x2
Velen's Chosen x2
Deathlord x2
Shadow Word: Death x2
Eydis Darkbane
Mass Dispel x1
Dragonkin Sorcerer x2
Holy Champion x2
Holy Nova x2
Gadgetzan Auctioneer x1
The same basic concept is the same. Buff the shit out of your minions and drop a lot of pain in one turn, but this version is far more stable and has a long game whereas the old one kind of didn't. Huge thanks to @Fiendishrabbit for suggesting Dragonkin Sorcerer. I didn't think of it because I hadn't unlocked it, but it is clearly superior to Lightspawn (at least in this deck).
Your early turns are about establishing board control, usually drawing a few cards via Northshire Cleric (which should almost always be played with Power Word: Shield to survive early removal options) and keeping the board clear with the other Power Words. Deathlord is to deal with super aggressive decks. It's Deathrattle makes it a magnet for punishment, which is what Convert is for. If they kill and pull a big creature, add it to your hand and remove it. This and Museum Curator are primarily there to give you some late game back-up plans. If Deathlord goes unchecked, you can pull an early with with double Divine Spirit and Inner Fire, but this is a rare occurrence and should never be planned for.
Once you have some board control, it's time to start buffing your minions. Protip: do not use any buffs until you can attack. The only exception to this rule is Eydis, since they trigger her ability and she will be a priority target/weak to to removal. You will likely need two waves to bring your opponent to lethal.
So what's the recommended deck to get to 10 this month?
I haven't had too much time to play so wondering if anything's shifted big time.
Been playing control war most recently with a little bit of that buff dragon / genie priest and dreadsteed for funsies.

Last time I ran an Inner Fire priest I kept a Crazed Alchemist or two handy, very useful for the kill when Inner Fire is not handy.
I actually included this card in earlier builds. It's definitely a back-up plan so I would only include one, swapping out a Museum Curator for it.
One thing I tried to do with this deck is build in a healthy amount of card draw. Nothing like buffing Dragonkin Sorcerer with Gadgetzan Auctioneer out, especially if you can begin with Power Word: Shield.

The super low curving one reminiscent of old zoo that tops out at Doomguard and Loatheb. Much faster than midrange zoo. It's stuff like:

I think Dire Wolf is very good with the number of 1/1s spawned by other things and also cards like egg. 1 vs. 2 damage is a pretty significant breakpoint right now since stuff like Minibot/Knife Juggler are so common.

Carrier is strictly worse than Abusive Sergeant or Dark Iron Dwarf, unless you're trying to go face and keep the minion alive. For trading it is a negative tempo card compared to either of those. Between the persistent effect and the better body, Wolf is a straight up better card.

It's worse than Sergeant, yeah, but you run it with Sergeant anyway. It's not worse than Dwarf because 2 mana is infinitely easier to weave into a turn than 4 mana. Carrier is also unique in that it's the only one of those cards that can be played for pressure rather than trading; you can make a creeper a 3/2 and hit face when there's nothing to trade into, whereas playing an Abusive there would feel like a waste, and you don't want to play nothing because it's likely a control deck you're against and you need to keep the pressure up.
Iunno, I've just always felt +2 attack is way, way more useful than +1 attack. Like, the difference between trading 1 spectral spider into a deshielded minibot or two is mostly irrelevant, but being able to kill a mechwarper or a shredder with 1 spectral spider is huge.
I bet the next expansion will have a lower cost version of healbot.
They have 1 cost for 2 health, 3 cost for 3 health, and 5 cost for 8 health. They going to go 4 cost (2/2 perhaps) for 6 health or are they going to power creep the 3?
It's not power creep on earthen ring if it heals more but only heals your hero. If you watch streamers most of the time they use earthen ring on a minion.
Anyone have a good deck to fight Kel'Thuzad on Heroic?

I think I did that with Deathlord/Inner Fire/Divine Spirit Priest. I don't remember for sure. I think Mill is a decent option here too. Should be easier with some of the newer cards if you have them.
Wow. So I just drafted my first amazingly shitty Arena deck. Chose hunter and the ONLY thing it gave me was that by the time it finally started giving me 1, 2 and 3-drops, I knew I had to take them no matter how shitty they were. Otherwise my lowest cost minion would have been like 4. The best card in my whole deck ended up being abusive sergeant and my mana curve was an absolute wreck, combined with just BAD cards.
Of course the first thing I run into is this paladin who somehow managed to draft this mech deck with amazing synergy. Just fucking blew me out of the water.
My 3rd match (at 0-2, of course) was against this guy who had even shittier cards than me. I couldn't even believe it because my cards were SO shitty. I wanted to spam "I'm sorry" at him, because I was...but I always interpret that as BM.

I so agree with this - it's really hard to convey what "I'm sorry" means without potentially sounding like a total goose.

First things first. I wrote down every single ladder game I played to rank 5 this season, starting from rank 17. After meandering around for a while with different decks at the start of the season, the deck I chose to climb to 5 was Reno Malylock. It's not my creation. The list was posted earlier in the thread but here it is again.
Surprisingly Malygos was not the star of the list. Not even close. Rather that honor goes to Alexstrasza, who let me deal surprise lethal in so many games. Have 11 power on board and your opponent is at 30 health? Alex + soulfire or PO is lethal and they'll never see it coming. If you have an emperor tick you can do it with even less. I ended up with a fantastic 21-7 win rate with the deck, although several games were very close and thought-intensive.
Anyway, I've played a total of 108 games so far this season. Here's what I faced.
Wow, that's really good info for us who haven't started the climb yet.
Thanks!!
Also, interesting deck.
There aren't that many spells that Malygos could buff for lethal (due to Reno's requirement) so you might already use up your dark bomb and soulfire by the time Maly might be playable.
Do you think the deck could improve by taking him out in lieu of something more solid, or a tech card like owl?

there's a meta in play, and unless you're a phenominal deck builder, pretty much the only way to rank up is to net deck. it's a sad truth, but net decking can be fun. creating crazy decks can be fun. If you wan to hit rank whatever, though, you're going to have to plow through other net decks. There's no secret column for people who ranked up "the hard way"
Good way to upset yourself if your collection is shallow :P
In all seriousness due to the increase in card quality and people's familiarity with the game it's increasingly harder to throw a bunch of cards together, hit the ladder and do fine past Rank 10 or so, depending on class. Netdecking a skeleton helps create a sturdy starting point, but ultimately any tech choices and substitutions should be tailored by the individual to suit their playstyle and the opposition they're facing.
