When the August 8th update is released, WvW and PvP players who own Heart of Thorns will be able to upgrade their WvW and PvP ascended armor to have legendary attributes! This new type of armor will not have a unique skin, such as the one that is part of the raids legendary armor, but instead will consist of an upgrade to WvW and PvP ascended armor that gives those armor pieces legendary stat-swapping capabilities without changing the skin.
The following PvP and WvW ascended armor can be upgraded to allow stat swapping:
• Triumphant Hero’s Ascended Armor
• Mistforged Triumphant Hero’s Ascended Armor
• Ardent Glorious Ascended Armor
• Glorious Hero Ascended Armor
To upgrade a piece of WvW or PvP ascended armor, combine 3 new PvP or WvW gifts with 1 piece of ascended gear in the Mystic Forge. You can purchase ingredients for the gifts from either Commander War Razor in WvW or the Ascended Armor League Vendor in PvP.
Hello GW2 thread. I haven't followed the game for about two years now, I think. Axe-mesmer looks real interesting, but I was wondering: have they introduced, or do they plan to introduce, more challenging small group content? When I last played, dungeons were just about soloable and scale 50+ fractals were more tedious than challenging (on account of group composition requirements and/or massive health scaling). Has anything changed there?
Theres raiding which is 10 man content, 4 wings with 4 encounters each. Fractals now go to 100 with a lot of changes, like specific levels for specific difficulties.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Any PVE content that seems challenging will eventually become either tedious or easy once it becomes fully understood. If you want challenge you'll eventually have to add in a human opponent

Unless you're going for specific challenges, group composition hasn't been required in high level fractals in a long time. Certain builds and classes work much better with each other (usually condition builds complement each other and power based builds have some benefit from sticking with each other) but aren't really required. It does help to be able to be flexible though and adjust build and weapon set depending on who's in the group some times.
The armor on fractal mobs was adjusted a while back. The health wasn't the problem AFAIK as condition builds ripped through that easily, it was the high armor making power builds underperform. Now the two are much more even (though condition groups tend to be safer due to some of the classes involved).

As well as the changes Steel mentions, there's also been some overhauls to Swamp and some new fractals (Nightmare, Chaos and Shattered Observatory) which are more challenging than the rest. Nightmare and Shattered Observatory have challenge modes which make them arguably harder than raiding.
Feel free to ask any (game related) stupid questions in Guild Chat, someone will likely be able to help you.
If you have the guild rank "inactive", see if an Officer or Commander is online and whisper them for your rank to be fixed. If not, post here or send an in game mail to me (right click my name from the guild panel ==> send mail) and I'll sort you out
I haven't played in 9 months or so, and hearing about a new expansion had me trying to remember how to play again. I know I haven't done anything with living story 3, but do have some mysteries and such.

Thanks for all the info to you both. I need to get back into WvWvW. Been doing some PVP as Bunker Druid which has felt solid so that's nice. Curious where the Soulbeast will fit into things. I'm still in the NICE guild which is ... NICE? But I can never WvWvW with you guys as I'm on Tarnished Coast T_T.
I've been playing this game casually for a few months now. Like, super casual. I have a 26 Ranger, a 20 Thief and a 13 Necro. It's fun! I love exploring at my own pace, getting map completion and occasionally doing random events out in the world.
The expansion looks really cool, but would it be worth it for someone who only plays a few hours per week? Can I play any of the content with my low-level characters or is it exclusively for level 80s? I really like the look of the mounts and the new zones, and I'm interested in playing a sniper style out in the desert, but I'm not sure it will be worth the purchase.

You can hold off on it for a bit. The expansions are level 80 content and level 80 content significantly more challenging than base game content at that.
The various masteries one can pick up apply to all character regardless of level (hence you'll see below level 80s gliding around if the player already had a level 80 character who learned gliding) but you need one level 80 to get it first.

Souldbeast looks like they're finally giving rangers an option to become a lot more responsive, and not have to rely on the buggy pet mechanics. There are already a lot of interesting build ideas coming out of the ranger forums based on what we've seen so far (the stances could really make a difference for area denial/assist for your team). I'm optimistic as to what we'll see. Druid was a nice addition to the gameplay, but since I am a horrible healer, it wasn't as great for me.
so I finally discovered that the engineer's Elixir R is a real goddamn MVP
whole weekend of PvP, and slapping down a quick potion throw at my feet never ceased being a cheeky and effective tactic
plus, having four dodge rolls when you really need them is incredibly handy

I mean the expansion will still be there whenever you've progressed enough to fully experience it. May as well enjoy the base game for now and if you're still having fun in a few more months you can make the dive. Why rush in now when the free version still has so much to offer?
Do we know yet if the PoF masteries will just be Central Tyrian? I'm just wondering if these freebies they threw in with LS3 are just that to help folks who aren't super achievy at least get legendary collections and auto-loot as a baseline prior to the new expac or if spending them will actively set people like that back when mount-type masteries consume them right off the bat.

I'd imagine the PoF masteries would have their own branch separate from the Maguuma and Central Tyrian ones. Probably will be called Elonian Masteries or some such
After a long absence, I wrapped up the story quests for LSW3 eps 4 through 6 the past few days.
I'm kind of hoping the encounter design is better in the expansion quests. A few fights got way too knockback and condition damage heavy when some classes do not have good access to stability or condition removal. And I cringe at thought of some of those fights if someone has not remapped the Special Action key for counter magic to something actually reachable quickly.
On the plus side, the open world mobs felt like they got more reasonable as the episodes came out and a.net remembered that some people may want to play the game to relax or may not have optimized setups. Outside of a few areas, Siren's Song was downright pleasant (those magma elementals are rough when they're scaled heavily and no players are condition builds so I have to use thief pistol 1 to bleed them on a power build) and most of Draconis Mons felt more relaxed (smoke scales still suck and I still am not sure what keeps trying to snipe me as a I dodge around in the Inquest areas) compared to knights sniping me out of the sky with boulders in Bloodstone Fens or the constant ice wolf gatherings in Bitterfrost Frontier.
Hi all, could I get an invite to the guild? Zet.6930
Also, are any of you doing runs in HoT maps? I need exp for masteries
I need to explore LS3 maps too. Aaaaaaa.
I think more than a few of us have been running around LS3 maps working on outstanding goals before the expansion hits or just doing the quests and stuff we missed while on hiatus from the game. Nothing really formalized though.
I took today of work to finish off the Living World storyline, and do some general mopping up of collections and stuff, getting ready for the expansion.
So naturally today is the day the Euro servers shit the bed.
