As for all the people who kept saying that the introduction of silver wouldnt lead to a pay2win scenario, if those armor sets at 320 are bought with silver and thats the end of it, that would be the definition of a pay2win scenario.
My expectation is that those armour sets are going to be like the Halloween masks. No defence stat at all.
They know all too well that people wanna "catch em all" in regards to loot, and they know they can get away with introducing more of this stuff by giving everyone a free emote/sparrow/horn/deely bopper. Like a drug dealer, the first taste is free but the next one is gonna cost ya.
I would be fine with all this stuff if it didn't feel like a compounded effort to screw me over. From PS4 exclusive crap, refer a friend shit, to the Halloween stuff, and now the sparrow stuff, they basically are saying "if you want everything in the game it is gonna cost you". I am fine with not getting everything. I am not fine with them "moving goalposts", so to speak. Before, the best gear always came from raiding or endgame PvP like IB and Trials. Now, you can get swords, sparrows, armor and more from just spending more money than others, which definitely cheapens my own experience with the game.
Instead of finally giving us things like Sparrow racing with a huge asterik next to it, I would prefer they rework the old content from Y1 to be relevant again. Have old raids drop 300-320 LL gear. Introduce challenge modes for all old raids/PoE. Have new quest lines with unique items for doing old story stuff. Make old raids, PoE and nightfalls exciting or compelling with new loot. We all know the game is just a huge gear treadmill and the only real reason to play end-game stuff is for the phat loot. It would be nice if anything besides the newest Raid would provide relevant gear and reduce the number of people burnt out running the same content week in and week out.

I'll enjoy sparrow racing without paying a cent. Thank you for all the foolios who pay money for cosmetic things and or slight temporary advantages to pay for the development of these things

They have a defence stat.
And some of them can drop at 320
If the races are free for us all to enter and all sparrows have the same speed stat then none of us actually have to spend silver unless there's a particular type of sparrow you want.
To participate is free and I'm sure the drops are same as any event.
If they straight up sell gear for silver then that's too much.

Participating in the Halloween event was free as well, but keeping stuff cost Silver. No reason to think this will be any different.
Plus its confirmed that the Eververse is gonna sell gear (armor). Also confirmed is a "Racing Book" that costs Silver and when it is completed will reward unique stuff (I'm assuming armor will be in there)

Ok but this was keeping cosmetic 3 defense helmets which you could still do while not having to pay silver just by playing the game and getting a little lucky.
Making assumptions about what will be on offer does nothing except get everyone all wound up.
Offering highest light level gear for sale through silver is a really slippery slope that no developer should go down.

That would literally never be the case. Worst case would be you could get the best sparrow sooner by paying silver. Which would be problematic but a temporary advantage
Wait and see.
Only thing from Halloween that annoyes me about the masks was the Blue Skull being random in the first free drop.
Selling anything cosmetic only, while frustrating, still matches the goal. Especially if it is cool looking.
Selling 320 armor would certainly be goalpost moving and bullshit.
I am still more excited to have these events and have them be f2p than not have them or have them as paid dlc.

Sparrow racing
*jerkoff motion*
Things I have never said:
1. I like riding my sparrow
2. I wish I could take time off shooting monsters/guardians to do some other dumb crap
So the armor is like legit armor and not just cosmetic. And they said that some stuff will be 320.
320 armor being locked behind this obviously Silver based event is a bad precedent for them to be able to set.
I would also argue that 320 armor locked behind this non-shooting event in an FPS is also a bad precedent because I literally could not give any less fucks about sparrow racing, and yet here I am now contemplating whether to suffer through it for 320 gear. Well played Bungie. Who even asked for this shite?

If the SRL isn't your thing, don't partake. I, for one, am super psyched. I love driving my sparrow and spend a lot of down time on Mars just busting tricks off the dunes. Some of us aren't good enough at competitive multiplayer to enjoy Crucible or have schedules that don't allow for regular raiding. Driving my sparrow is something I can do by myself, am pretty decent at, AND enjoy.

I don't have a problem that they put it in game (even though it took away development time for things that could have been more shooting), but the fact that they're tying gear into despite being a game mode that has nothing to do with what the game is sold as (an FPS), well...that grinds my gears.

I love this because it helps flesh out the "world"
Mmos are always talking about "oh we want people to be able to just craft or just explore and not just kill things"
But destiny is really pulling it off. You can do end game pve(raid) end game pvp in two different ways and now maybe sparrow racing. All of those leading to end game gear with similar stats but different aesthetics is great.
Hey look that guy trials, that guy does iron banner that guy does raids that guy sparrow races
That's awesome IMO and more ways to allow folks to get max gear so they can do other stuff when they want is great

So are we just basically never getting any actual content again? Kinda what it's starting to seem like.
If Destiny 2 is September 2016 then I would guess we will see more things like smaller drips of new content like Festival of the Lost, Sparrow Racing League, Challenge mode, or modifications to playlists. Maybe that is just me being pessimistic, but another drop the size of TTK doesn't seem likely between now and Destiny 2.

I don't need TTK level content but something like HoW would be good.

I don't expect another ttk in the next nine months but it'd be cool to see another raid or PoE-ish thing. Even using previous assets like someone earlier was saying. Not too excited for racing.

Just a note, this is inaccurate. You got 1 Legendary mask and maybe one glue from the one free Legendary bag at the start of the event. After that you COULD NOT earn more glue or more purple masks by "being lucky". This should have been hammered home when you did the quests and realized the quest rewards were just an identical bag to when you kill random mobs or Crucible people (aka, thanks for playing, buy more Ovaltine, idiots). Expect this to be how racing works too. You'll maybe be able to keep one thing, but everything else will be locked behind buying random drop bags, which is a great way to screw over people enthusiastic enough to pay for your shit.

The thing that really chaps my hide is the refer-a-friend fiasco.
I really, truly don't mind having a certain level of cash shop in Destiny; I have spent so many hours enjoying this game that at this point any money I spend on stuff like dances or sparrows is just the peace dividend from the copy of Tomb Raider or Battlefront or whatever that I haven't bothered to even purchase. But the idea that I'm supposed to go find other people and get them to buy the game over a year after release, to get access to new quests, cosmetics, etc. - I'm not happy about that at all.
In the end though, what I really hope is that along with the introduction of Eververse and the Silver currency comes the kind of deep data analysis and willingness to rebalance that we've seen with the core mechanics of the game. If refer-a-friend is a flop because of the awful, terrible, who-greenlit-this timing of it, hopefully we won't see it return. If people are willing to spend money on the Thriller dance (Thriller dance!) but not on 320-LL armor or whatever...
Well, maybe we have a chance to make our preferences clear, but honestly I find it more likely that most people are going to be just fine with forking over $10 for 320-LL armor, and we'll find ourselves heartbroken when they introduce timers and shit in Destiny 2 or 3.
But for now, I want to believe we can do better, at least we, we gorgeous, immortal, lion-hearted elite who are still into Destiny over a year in, can make a better community for ourselves.

I like(d?) being the runner on Oryx but its a fucking pain when you repeatedly gets "PHYSIC'ed" and people probably think you are just taking a nice little walk away from them because you felt like it, meanwhile this is the shit I'm seeing on my screen.
Watching you squirt out like that was pretty funny, less so when it happened, but after, yeah. That happened to me on one run, I squirted right close to where an ogre spawns. I think I was able to make it back though, as it happened earlier. Playing as guy who just stands in the centre really messed me up, everytime someone called run, I took off like I had some where to go.

No... and the Sparrows for Silver are as good as the entry level sparrows. They only likely look a lot cooler.

@Erevar since I think he gets a little too much enjoyment from this and wasnt present.
I did get the 320 relic from the challenge mode and a 320 Machinegun from the Warpriest himself, so thats better loot than I've gotten in 2 months.
