Maybe I'm just in denial, or a hoarder, or a combination of both. Why would I delete any of the games in my backlog that I want to play, but just haven't gotten around to playing yet? I also don't want to delete games from my Steam library, regardless on how "bad" they are. I guess I'm actually sort of ticked off that Valve decided instead of removing the bad games from their service, to just give the people the option to remove the bad games that they've already bought, and have been in more or less words "affected by", from their accounts to help the people forget that they even exist. What is keeping them from doing what really needs to be done and putting a little more effort into their QA about which games get on their service?
At one point your (grand)children will look to your Steam account and try to wonder what kind of person you were.
It's in this moment when you don't want VNs with bi-curious, mutant, transforming protagonists that will forever change the cherished moments they had of you in their memories.

The only games I'd consider removing from my library are ones that aren't playable anymore, like Star Wars Galaxies. But I still won't.
Speaking of games that aren't playable anymore, I have 5 gift copies of Dead Island Epidemic in my Steam inventory. There isn't any way to delete those, is there?
I'm probably a terrible person, but I wanted Shadow Complex, but the fact it's not through Steam (even with their own stupid launcher like Ubi did) means I don't feel like I can be bothered. I may as well just watch a Let's Play of it. I know I'll never buy it since it was given away free, but not on my platform of choice so it may as well not exist. Tell me how terrible I am or am not.
Just found out from the boss man that I don't have to head to the out of town store today which means I'll be home on time. And a new power supply got tossed in the pc Wednesday so no more surprise reboots that will force me to leave early. Anyone got FNG thoughts? I'm pretty up for whatever. I'll check back in here on smoke breaks like I do to see what's cracking.
Killing Floor 2 just got an update, but fuck 'em. We want to play some killing floor 1?
... we need more liberals as villains in our games.
What we need is more Tony Soprano protagonists.
Forget the lovable loser or the gruff "anti-hero" who is just gruff and not really an anti-hero. I want a horrible person who shows just enough humanity to be somewhat relatable.
What I'd really like to see is a mostly evil female protagonist. Not a victim because something horrible happened to her in the past. Not a "cute-but-crazy" type. Just a genuinely bad person with a few touches of likeability and constant reminders that she's not a good person. She would advance in the world using intelligence, subterfuge, seduction, and utter ruthlessness to achieve her aims. This hard as nails character would, of course, be voiced by Laura Bailey.
Unfortunately, I can't see a AAA studio creating this character any time soon.
Glen Close's character from the practice is an archetype I'd love to see in a game
I really enjoyed The Practice, but I don't remember that character. Could you please refresh my memory?
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

Yeah, you're being kind of silly, but I do understand it. I was disappointed to see it released on PC on their own download service. But I really liked the game a lot, so I went ahead and downloaded it this morning. Maybe it'll eventually get a proper Steam release too? Who knows.

Everyone wants their own launcher, their own storefront, their own little platform to try to sell you more stuff installed on your PC. I have Steam because, for the longest time, it was the only game in town, and all in all, it's pretty non-intrusive. But then there was Uplay. And Blizzard's Battle.net launcher. And whatever EA's doing which I don't know because I don't own any games that require me to install it. GOG's got a client now. Green Man Gaming has a client.
Everyone wants a piece of my wallet, everyone wants me to have to look at their ad before and/or after I play the game I already bought, and I don't want to.
So, yeah, no more. If it's not for a system I've already allowed through the gate, it's not coming in. I have plenty, thanks.

In my defense, their infrastructure can't handle the stress, where I can't recall the last time a game release brought down Steam. They knew better and went with their own platform anyway.

Epic does have good reason for having their own platform. They have a number of titles in alpha, a 3d engine people can use for various projects, plus there are people that are creating assets for used in the Unreal Engine that are game agnostic as well as non-game projects people have released so they've been using it for something quite different than what Steam normally is for. We're not quite talking about a UPlay, Origin, or Rockstar Social Club here, more of a mix of launcher platform and software development IDE.
It's not really the best platform to showcase commercial games on but I don't doubt the game will pop up on Steam and GoG after the holidays and the proceed to be involved in sales down the line and the service Epic is running is actually pretty damn impressive from a software developer standpoint.

Perfectly understandable! I've personally bought bundles that included games which weren't on Steam or any other download service I had and haven't bothered with most of them for the same reason.
Shadow Complex is awesome, though, so I made an exception. I would not have made the exception if it were not free.
This is not the greatest game ever. It is, however, easily worth $6. It's janky and has some cringeworthy dialog and is pretty low budget (dressed up as a AAA title). Wow the Humble Monthly has killed it this time 'round. Banished, Neon Struct, RUST and Payday 2 are all on my "I'd like to get in on that action someday" list. I hear Payday2 is having DLC issues, but it's more there to dabble with PA people and not worry about bulk unlocks too much. Chroma Squad I've already completed and Company of Heroes 2 aaaaah maybe if I'm in the mood for a bit of RTS history. Overall, worth the 17 dollerydoos

Have you played Saint's Row?
Yes, I loved SR3 and SR4. I really enjoyed them both. One of these days I'll get around to SR2.
One great thing about the Saints Row games is that you can play as a space marine. You can also play as a skinny goth girl or as an an overweight black businesswoman. It's one of the few games where you have such a diverse set of character choices. It's wonderfully egalitarian in that respect. It's a statement that you're treated the same no matter your gender, creed, or colour. The trade off is that The Boss has to be a generic person without a history or any personality traits that could be affected by the past.
The Saints Row world is deliberately absurd. There's no sense of morality in SR. You can't really be good or evil in Steeltown because it's so clear that you're just playing make believe. It's great fun, but there's not even the pretense of reality.
In The Sopranos, you get to see Tony whack somebody. That person isn't a Nazi who committed an unredeemable act. It's just a kid who made a poor decision. A real person with hopes and dreams who could get married and be a good parent one day. You understand that Tony needs to protect himself and his friends. You get why it happens, but there's nothing enjoyable or cathartic about it.
You want to cheer for Tony since he's the main character, but at the same time you feel a revulsion about supporting someone like that. This is a character I want to play in a game.
While Saints Row 2 has a lot of absurdity and humor, it's tone is a lot darker. The more lighthearted tone of the following games was a reaction to how unpleasant 2 got at times.
Remember the speech the STAG commander gives in SR3 to quiet the reporters questioning his methods? There's a basis for that anecdote.
Yeah, I SR2 was the only open world game thus far where I enabled cheats and plowed my way through the story just to witness the end because I couldn't stand the monster of a human being I was playing.
SR3 and 4 were more my speed. "Puckish rogue" not "deadly homicidal gangster".

Because, yeah. Gangs are just filled with 'puckish rogues'.
SR4 is the pinnacle of the series, speaking as someone who only played 4, because it had superpowers and they were awesome.
Also seems like I took a big miss on that new Humble Monthly. Meh, I'll just give away most of it.
If the only one I had played had been 4, that would be my favorite. Since I played 3, it's a toss-up. The oneupmanship of the missions getting more and more crazy, I felt there was more of a constant ramping up in the 3rd that didn't and couldn't be maintained in 4. However, I found the powers more . . . empowering. So again, toss-up.

Though, it seems karma has to balance such an awesome early Christmas gift by apparently frying my hard drive on my gaming laptop just yesterday.
I am not great with diagnostics, but it's what I presume to be the case.
Crying shame, as I tried all that I can to boot the OS to no avail. (Using my cellphone right now)
Repair disk, chkdsk prompts among a couple other things I tried don't work. T_T
Gonna try and reinstall of win7 from the CD, since it may have to do with the downloaded yet uninstalled win10 update that may have corrupted the files.
Those MS bastards are persistent in having that blasted thing in my laptop.
If that doesn't work, then my HD is probably dead in the water.
Wish me luck.

Don't get me wrong, gameplay was rough as fuck and gets better as the series progresses. And I don't begrudge the shift to more and more outrageous scenarios.
I just feel the overall story and the not-quite-silent protagonist more engaging. And while the ultra-violent nature if The Boss (as presented) over The Playa was jarring, it still fit overall.
I had fun with SR3 but the outrageous nature of everything was still off-putting. It didn't have to be 'real', I just didn't find it especially compelling. Haven't played 4 or Hell, yet.
I guess I just think Volition went too far with the crazy in SR3. I get that it's a pretty singular point of view.

I think they weren't quite willing to fully commit to a direction in 3. It was over the top, but some bits felt like they still wanted to be doing something serious and the bouncing between the two could be jarring.
4 has a much more consistent tone but still bridged the gap in tone between 2 and 3 via audio logs from characters that were in the those two games.

This thing is leaps and bounds better than the laptop I've been using the past few years. I'm not even 100% sure who all is responsible. I'm going to say it's the following people. They were all in on the plan, at least: @aerynkelly @AnteCantelope, @Antoshka, @Basil, @Big Classy, @cardboard delusions, @CorriganX, @CroakerBC, @handgimp, @Isorn, @Khildith, @Malakaius, @minor incident, @mts, @Shogun, @SmokeStacks, @Spoit, @Sumanai, @Viking. If I've missed anyone, you have my deepest apologies and greatest thanks.
(I mean, technically I think I shouldn't be accepting this, as I'm not accepting gifts, but you guys built me a computer.) I just, wow. You obviously put a lot of time and thought and effort into this. Did I say thank you? Thank you

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
Yeah, I SR2 was the only open world game thus far where I enabled cheats and plowed my way through the story just to witness the end because I couldn't stand the monster of a human being I was playing.
SR3 and 4 were more my speed. "Puckish rogue" not "deadly homicidal gangster".
HURRY AND DOWNLOAD KILLING FLOOR YOU GOT LIKE 45 MINUTES GOGO.
PS. Its killing floor night, get killing floor (the original) downloaded, get on TS (links at the top of the forum, pinned) and lets shoot some zeds and collect some dosh.

It's already downloading! Steam says it has about a half hour left, so it'll be close! If it's not done, I'll join from the laptop.
A couple people had it from a past secret santa, but my big mistake here was sending someone a gift through Amazon. (Apparently it gave my name and address!)
Because, yeah. Gangs are just filled with 'puckish rogues'.
SR1 was better anyway.

You're a rare bird with that opinion, Santa.

Honestly, that wasn't what I was interested in. The hint of organized crime in 3 was . . . ok. But for that element, I found 4 better.
