Did I just catch that AC: Syndicate is 40% off? Got me seriously thinking about it now, that's a LOT for a recent game. I heard it was one of the better AC games, but a price dip like that..... Any good on PC or does it have Unity's crap optimization issues?

I was just coming in to post that steam just emailed me that Assassin's Creed Syndicate is 40% off, but @Massena beat me to it! So, I'll respond to this:
The Berry-plot has been most amusing. I'm glad everything arrived intact.
to be honest i was hoping for some Bery cursing
Sorry! I pretty rarely swear. The only things that generally make me curse are bad drivers (including those that don't use their turn signals!) and hurting myself, like stubbing my toe on something. Sometimes also technology that doesn't work right.
As for cursing people out for getting you stuff, I don't really go in for that. I know it's meant in a joking way, but I just can't curse at generosity. (Yes, when you guys "joked" about something like this in the past, I told you not to do it, and I meant it. But, I mean, you guys built me a computer. How could I be anything but grateful and appreciative?)
In short, unless you're someday in the car with me while I'm driving, you're unlikely to hear me swear. But, if it makes you feel better,
Holy shit, you guys built me a fucking computer! You're the best!!!
On Assassin's Creed Syndicate; looks fantastic, has great characters and zero bugs from the two hours or so I played. I had it maxed out and it would drop frames a fair bit so I reduced the settings.
Evie is my character of the year. She's just really well written and voiced. I mean it's an adorable English accent, what's not to love?
Actually character of the year is probably the wingsuit in Just Cause 3. It just speaks to me in so many levels man.

The thing is we truly truly missed having you in chat, and the laptop running as hot as it did was a hazard. We also didn't want to have you squinting your poor eyes to see all the games. You said no games, you said no ps4. We merely worked within the parameters set. We love you to death and you're an amazing person who deserves it! Thank you for being awesome!

I am a little surprised that an adorable English accent works on a Brit. Cool!
Presumably you're American. Aren't there any accents there that work on you?
There are no adorable American accents. They range from non-distinct to cringeworthy (I won't specify which I think are which, though).
The best accents are all Euro. Especially Irish.
It's a shame that no one does the ol' Mid-Atlantic accent anymore, because it is hilarious.
edit: Er, to be clear, I'm referring to the accent used often by actors in the earlier days of film. The not-quite-American-but-not-quite-British accent.

It's not a natural accent, though. It was artificially developed for radio and then, for some reason, taught in upper class boarding schools and thus became the accent of "the American aristocracy." It does actually still exist in parts of New England.

Picked it up a couple weeks ago for about that price. I haven't played an AC game since 2, but i like this one a lot. I have most everything maxed, my setup is an AMD FX-4170, 8gb RAM, 3GB R9 280, so pretty far off from top-of-the-line. Been pretty smooth so far. Looks great, only issue right now is the occasional animation glitch, but I suspect that's a cross-platform issue. Haven't heard any major optimization-related complaints.

In Steam-related sales news, Bundlestars is having a Nordic Games sale. One of the standouts appears to be the Red Faction Collection for $5.99. It includes every Red Faction game. You can also pick up Space Asshole Red Faction Guerrilla on its own for $3.99, and it's arguably the only game in that pack you need. Armageddon isn't bad, just kinda...boring?

Yeah, the fact that it was manufactured is part of what makes it funny to me.

I got the email too, unfortunately to my mind £30 is still full price, I need to play Unity and Rogue first anyway

Isy, would you like us to have a second call while I clean up the mountains of packing peanuts all over my floor and under the couch? (I might have gotten a bit distracted with the lovely shiny new computer yesterday and not gotten around to cleaning everything up before it was time for bed...)
Also, pretty game with an awesome female character, on sale, that might let me test out the new computer a bit more than last night's Killing Floor... (Also, I think there are sidequests with both Darwin and Dickens? ) I may have to indulge and pick that up when I get home from work.

I don't know what else to say, just (It's a good thing work is pretty quiet today and no one saw me get a bit teary-eyed.)
However, I'm more than fairly certain that I also said no new computer!
Still, I think you guys are the amazing ones - the best!

Hey, I've been getting on a kick for economy games. I bought Anno 2205 and while its a nice intro, there's no real... competition? It parades as a SimCity/Economy game, but really its more like a Tetris tile placer to max out all the space to get the most efficient output.
I'm in the process of downloading Anno 2070 because watching some old youtube vids shows it more like what I'm looking for.
Anybody got recommendations for Economy Games like "The Corporate Machine" and Anno 2070?
Sooo, what can anyone tell me about Helldivers? The game looks fun, and it's from Magicka devs. At the same time, it's a console ports, so there's that. Did they port it well? Can you play it comfortably with KB+M? Any other issues I should know?

All regional accents are torturous on the ears and should be banished.
Everybody should be taught a "BBC accent" from birth and any who stray from the path should be sent to work down a mine or some shit.

For some unknown reason, I picture "Bery cursing" as her saying thing like, "gosh" and "gee wiz", or maybe even "goshdangit".
I am sure this isn't the case, but regardless, the mental image entertains me to no end.
I may have let a few "Holy moly"s slip.
In Steam news, there's a page up for Oxenfree, an upcoming spooky adventure game with a lot of freedom in determining conversations/the story and with Disney artists. I'm generally not a fan of spooky games, but this one looks pretty intriguing, and I'm always happy to see new twists on the adventure genre.

Well yes, those too.
We made @Berylline play cards against humanity with us. She said the most vile things..
I'm not sure why, but picturing her rather sweet and soothing voice saying anything "vile", in conjunction with playing Cards Against Humanity, that circumstance entertains me even more . . .

The KBAM controls I've heard are a little weird (I'm using my PS4 controller for it all) in that they don't have a cross hair and reset your aim to your character whenever you stop aiming. This is pretty much to mimic the way the controls work when using a stick because a decent part of the games feel is based in how weighty the aiming and turn circles are. So that might annoy you.
However it's a super, duper good game. Fun to play with pubs, oozing with camp space fascism theme and a whole lot of fun. In general I'd describe it as magicka but where the game continues to be fun once the joke of accidentally killing your friends/yourself/everyone in a five mile radius wears off.

I can also vouch for Dawn of Discovery (a personal favorite of mine), Sid Meier's Railroads!, and Patrician IV. Not as good, but still enjoyable, are Port Royale 3, The Guild series, and Settlers II Anniversary Edition (over at GOG).
If you're wanting to get your feet wet with economics in the grand strategy vein, Europa Universalis IV, Victoria II, and Crusader Kings II would work.
Finally, if you want economics mixed with city placement and/or transportation networks, Cities in Motion is very good.
Can't find confirmation, so I'll ask the thread. Does Elder Scrolls Online come with a steam key if purchased somewhere other than Steam? I missed the earlier deal today and it looks like it's even cheaper at DL Gamer, but I'm not sure if I want to deal with an additional client outside of Steam that isn't Guild Wars 2/Blizzard/Origin/the list keeps getting bigger.

To be honest 2070 is still in alot of ways about maximising tetris powers.
It's just the kind of game that series is. Though 2070 is definitely the much better of the two.

No. To the vast annoyance of many of us, no Steam key (it pisses me off because Steam cards). On the other hand, no outside client either. I mean, it has its own launcher like every mmo ever, but you don't need the equivalent of Origin/etc to launch it. I launch it through Steam and it works just fine.

That is very interesting. I'd been thinking folks talking about the mid-Atlantic accent were talking about the accent for folks from the middle of the Eastern Seaboard (esp. between Richmond and Wilmington). You can hear it especially in o's coming out as u's, like "roof" or "for."

Could anyone recommend a sci-fi/Star Wars-esque(?) game with fun gameplay mechanics? I have this Star Wars itch but not really feeling like TOR or KoTR

Southern Belle.
Australian is the best accent.
And I will note that European women find the hard vowel, soft 'r' New England accents very attractive until it becomes Southie. My experience, anyway.
