Thanks to @ReverseCreations for ANOTHER Final Fantasy game in Final Fantasy 6. I played this a bit as a kid and enjoyed it but never finished it. I think RC has almost single-handily bought me every Final Fantasy game on steam. Put down your sword, gentle soul. I'll get the rest.

Kingdoms of Amalur turned out to be a fun ~24 hour game followed by a couple of hours of putzing around to get some of the achievements that seemed pretty easy.
Also, I built a castle. Well, renovated. It's mine now.
For the record, the "harvest 10 of every kind of harvestable" achievement was nowhere near as quick and easy as I'd thought.
It definitely scratched the itch for epic RPG fun.

It is the only 'big' game I can run on this laptop. I'm about to try Darksiders 2: Definitive Edition but I don't have high hopes. KoA is thankfully fun enough that I can see myself sinking a couple dozen hours into it too.
Do you know what's extra sad about Kingdoms of Amalur? It did well enough that EA ordered a sequel. But the studio was trying to do too much at once and the MMO they were making at the same time ultimately tanked them.

i have no idea what i'm doing in Dungeon of the Endless, and everyone's dead. Again.
Teams will continue to keep on dying until i figure out what's what and who's who. A process that, surely, can only be aided by more shochu.
i'm not sure, yet if i can label the game as a hoot, yet; but it's getting there. Certainly at least 2/5's hoot is currently observable. i am sure this will only grow over time.
And this concludes our evening's drunken, rambly, review theatre. Join us again, next time, as your humble host attempts to make heads and/or tails of this gribbly thing over here.
Daily Espada showed up in my Discovery Queue. It looks like a pixely Takeshi's Castle, except all the fun challenges have been replaced by monsters from Brazilian mythology? Also much gibs? It looks interesting, at least.
Dammit. I sent @Lowlander a friend request like 2 nights ago with the usual ambush plans, but the acceptance was slow enough in coming that I got sidetracked. And this is what happened. /shakefist
Thanks! (I'm actually surprised I didn't own this already. I'd have sworn I did!)

Don't have too much sympathy for Kingdoms of Amalur. Remember 38 Studios (the devs) frauded Rhode Island for a lot of money during the development of it (or the MMO, I forget which), so even if they could make a good game they made some truly awful business decisions and brought the end upon themselves.
It's still hilarious to me that we saw the rare crossover of real-life baseball and videogames (former star pitcher Curt Schilling being tightly associated with 38) and that's what happened.
So I saw the new Star Wars movie, and I think I'm going to go see it again tomorrow, which of course means I could use some Star Wars games. I see that KOTOR and KOTOR II are both like $3, worth it to get one of them or maybe both? I think they use a version of the D20 system, and I'm really not a fan of that system, but since it's a video game I probably wouldn't have to pay a ton of attention to the underpinnings of the engine right?
Also what are other worthwhile RPG-ish games set in the Star Wars universe? I don't have a joystick anymore so I don't think I'd enjoy the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, and I don't really want to play an FPS right now.
It's really, really hard to make a weak Jedi character in the Star Wars D20 system. Just going with soldier/Jedi Guardian types will give you a pretty straightforward experience. Both KOTOR games are your best bet for space wizard goodness. The first is more polished than the second but the second delves a lot more into the setting with twists on some of the common trappings of the setting. It has bounty hunters that actually bounty hunt, wookies that aren't just big teddy bears, droids that are coldly logical, scoundrels that don't have hearts of gold, and Sith that can actually be subtle as opposed to mustache twirling.
Agree to disagree. I never bought into it.
Also, it seems @chrisnl hasn't played KOTOR? Might want to watch spoilers even on an older game like that. For now, at least, and just in case.
I was just about to mention Kingdoms of Amalur. I stopped playing it earlier this year because of messing around with other games, finally decided I'd finish it over Christmas.
The combat is getting a bit samey again but changing fates to another combat type helps that. I'm finding myself skipping more and more sidequests as I'm nearing the final area though, not many are that exciting besides the faction ones. I'm still at 54 hours though and haven't made it to the final area yet.

Maaaaan, I just do not get Risk of Rain. Like, with Isaac and Nuclear Throne I was bad, but I could see how to be good. The amount of stuff you need to keep track of crowd control in RoR is just so crazy, I don't get how you're supposed to go about it, nevermind the boss fights that get thrown on top of that.
It's probably been covered to death in this thread already, but it moves so fast I couldn't keep up. The Steam thing that happened at Christmas was a caching issue, so people were able to view other people's account information, but weren't able to change anything, right? So there's no need to shred your credit card (since only the last few characters are displayed), and if you tried to do anything with the account, it would prompt for authentication?
Freedom Planet makes me especially happy because I feel like I'm investing something in these different paths I take. The different experiences for each character actually makes me think of Killzone 1 and their attempt at it.
I'm further excited at the thought of taking motorcycle ninja cat out for a spin and seeing how the levels run with her.
Then there's shield puppy who, according to the wiki, gets a special set of levels.
Please tell me they are producing a line of plushies for this game.

Woke up stuffy, starting to get a cold bleh. Log in to steam and saw The Talos Principle from @Talus9952 ! Thank you much for making the start of my day a whole lot better!

You are correct.
Excellent, thanks. And we're angry because Valve hasn't apologized, not because it was some kind of massive data loss.
Since my Xbox account got hacked and someone bought some FIFA cards with my credit card, I've been pretty careful. When you buy Steam games at the rate I do, entering your credit card info every time isn't that big a hassle. And then you don't have to worry too much when bad things happen.

I try not to even enter credit card info. I buy Steam cards from the supermarket, Best Buy, etc and load up my wallet.

Huh, I've never seen Blood Omen 2 written out that way. I know the original was written that way though.
Blood Omen 2 does not exist.
Do not look directly at it. To do so is to court madness. That is how awful it is.
I thought we all agreed never to utter it's name again and burned all copies of the thing?
Bah, I thought Blood Omen 2 was OK. Just not really a worthy entry into the Legacy of Kain series. I doubt it has aged well. It definitely had its clunky bits.

I'm angry that Valve hasn't been forthcoming at all about what happened. It's not just a lack of apology, it's the lack of any communication at all. No admission that personal info was leaked, no mention of it at all on their website and just a comment to a couple of gaming sites, no way of knowing whether your info was leaked unless you've been contacted by other users who saw your info... the total radio silence from Valve on this is infuriating, but not altogether surprising considering their track record of customer service.
Well, @HyphyKezzy has sent me the most horrifying game available on Steam, all the worse for it's not-necessarily fictional outcomes. What is this game, you ask?

Huh, looks like Steam's gotten the Discovery Queue/out of region game thing kinked out finally. i've had the last three passes go all the way to the end and trigger the card drop, so it looks like i will be able to craft the WinterDale badge this year. Keen Beans.
i've got an extra pair of "Holly's, and one "Sending a Message," if anyone needs those. i just need a Twinkle, and Mystery Card 11.
Also, in games, i cleared the first floor in Dungeon of the Endless. That's a start. Enjoying it more, at the very least. Still not quite sure how to level up my peoples, or how to not have to escape the floor by the skin of my teeth, but i'm sure i'll get it figured out eventually.

Ahem.
I found Risk of Rain to take a few tries to really click with me, though I do have to say coop is for sure the way to play. But once you get the hang of it, its doable by yourself. But not as satisfying.
On the plus side, you can horde ALL those sweet powerups when you play solo, so it has that going for it.
It helps when you unlock a few new characters too to give you more options and characters that might fit your playstyle a bit better.
