PAX East Discord?

For anyone not familiar with the Discord App check it out at https://discordapp.com/ It's an easy way to connect big groups of people(Conventions) and it can help the solo travelers like myself meet up and enjoy the weekend with others! I don't know if this is already a thing or becoming a thing but I figure I plant the seed for this early so someone can make it! I'd even be willing to help with it!

I'm waiting for an actual official one. Don't wanna put too much power in the wrong hands Like I said. I'd be more than willing to help out with it myself. Just gotta get the right people maybe to get this started!

well if someone whos one of the forum veterans wants to take on an admin or mod role i have no problem making a role and assigning their username to it.
my plan was to just have everyone have most (if not all) permissions not pertaining to server admin stuff and for me to just be completely hands off outside of maintenance type stuff (like kicking people being a general ass if it ever happened; though i doubt it would with this community)
if anyone want to do the mod stuff or admin stuff though the one requirement i'd have is they be a forum member with good standing (so no warnings, bad marks, yadda yadda) which is just a good common sense thing imho

just pop on with the link up there, jeff is already working on a chatbot for discord to put in the server to automate some things like auto-kicking anyone who decides to be an asshat and banning repeat offenders

Just hopped onto the server - already looking good.
@Mechcondrid - Have you considered separate text/voice channels based on purposes? So like, a channel specifically for those who wanna meet up, another for those who just want to chat, another for those who want to play something, etc.
Definitely a good start though. I have some experience managing Discord servers, hit me up if you could use another chat mod.

ya was gonna see if the chat bot can be coded to make temp channels beside the primary general channel, i don't know the discord api at all so i gotta ask jeff if that's easy/hard/impossible to do or not; but the basic idea is that someone direct messages the bot and gives it the particulars (channel name, private, not private, voice or just chat, etc, etc.) and it will make a room that it will monitor periodically for activity and if there's nothing it will delete the room.

but like i said it all depends on the api

UPDATE TO EVERYONE:
The PAX Community Discord Server is up and ready to go. At the moment, we are giving out symbolic roles for preferred PAXes and we are working on a channel structure that will work well both on- and off-PAX.
