Unless you're one of their parents you have no call for being that hostile.

When you don't get to see a parent for the holidays, or ever again in this life, no matter how much you want to, the attitude...

"Yeah sure I totes love and respect my parents and all that, whatever, but make an effort to ensure we spend time together? Pfft, fuck that, that's all on them bro!"

...is what you might call a hot button.

I read a book, called the Logic of Love by Stefan Molyneux, and learned an obvious, but seldom-realized thing. If you hate and dread an experience, and people claim to love you? They should want to hear about it, and they should want you to feel better and take steps to make that happen. Actual steps that move you towards happiness.

So, your parents were here first. You came to the party later. How was the experience? Did they ask you, at least once, "How are you experiencing my parenting? 'Thumbs up, would child again', or not so much?"

(Love) and (Don't care you are hurting) are mutually exclusive.

Ugh, the holidays of yore... Glad I'm still seeing a therapist, was interested to hear that Mike is too!

I think we need to distinguish between:

    A. Not wanting to see your family at the holidays because you have a poor relationship with them due to them being hurtful and toxic

    and...

    B. Not wanting to see your family at the holidays because you dislike the town they live in

The subject of today's comic is B.

    You sure about that?

Man I feel so far behind I don't even have one kid to show the place of humiliating memories and bitterness I came from let alone two.
Shit, man--I'm in my late 20's, and I had to go back to live in my place of humiliating memories and bitterness. I assume you at least have the option of having a girl over...lol

My girlfriend lives out of state actually. Anyway don't feel too bad the idea of children not leaving or returning to the nest past 18 is becoming increasingly common and acceptable given the current situation with jobs and the economy in America. Just hang in there most people of good stature will be reasonable about it since we are a generation basically going backwards in quality of life compared to our parents. Also I'm 35 get off my lawn whipper snapper.

My neck, my back, my FUPA and my crack.

Because Christmas is a Christian holiday, therefore is all about suffering.

Pretty sure that only applies if he's a practicing Catholic...

True, Christianity is more about making other people suffer.

In my town's defense... well, at least it isn't Tacoma.

Sure, we had the gay Republican mayor, the Gypsy curse on City Hall, the one daily newsrag (run by a dynastic family), the one art museum (run by that same dynastic family), the Aryan Nations, serial killer Robert Lee Yates, a Hezbollah cell, white supremacists pipe-bombing the downtown area multiple times, and our most prominent black person exposed as actually being white...

But at least it isn't Tacoma.

Jerry might not read this but I know the mods will. Could you folks tell Jerry I said thank you for all the smiles, laughs and inspiration? Also for putting himself out there because I as dark as this stuff can be it does let folks who have been through similar stuff know they're not alone. Anyways thank you and Mike for PA (and all you folks helping run it rock, too).

I know it's sappy and all but hopefully maybe it provides some smiles.
