I don't blame Coughlin for not pulling him but honestly I hope they just both get fined because (again I haven't seen it) I don't think either player took action that, in context, is worthy of suspension absent an ejection.
e: Again I didn't see it, but did OBJ get moved around much? Or did he always line up in the same spot? Because if he was getting beat to the point of getting emotional, then Coughlin should have moved him around (if he didn't). I don't know if OBJ does the slot much, but I don't think Norman lines up against the slot hardly ever. So I'll blame Coughlin for not moving OBJ around, but only because that could have given him a chance to cool off and maybe get some catches.
Of course if Rivera had Norman cover him anyway then that's all moot.
He actually spent most of the game in the slot, the announcers even mentioned that once, that Norman only covered him a limited amount, but narratives win out.

Making the whole thing even more ridiculous the Panthers were apparently wielding baseball bats on the field during pre-game and menacingly pointing them at the Giants.
Please don't make batgate a thing. They had a bat last week to emphasize home run mentality, and the player who had it broke his leg that game, so they did it again in honor of him
Taking a cue from secondary coach Steve Wilks, who on Saturday night unveiled a black baseball bat juiced with motivational cork, cornerback Bene Benwikere emerged from the tunnel with the bat in his hand before Sunday's game. Starting with a 44-yard run by Jonathan Stewart on the third play, and continuing with Newton’s long touchdown passes to Ted Ginn Jr. on the next two possessions, the Panthers had put up a crooked number with their big swings.
Nothing said last week about how A-A-APPALLING it was. Also no fights. Almost like it was nothing.
@ProFootballTalk
Panthers source on the black bat issue: "Giants trying to distract from Beckham antics."
They'll probably get rid of the bats just to make everyone "happy", but Beckham shouldn't evade punishment for this, and that seems like the mentality behind making this "news"
Mariota out for year with MCL sprain. This sucks. 1) I was feeling good about him later in the year, and 2) this means more televised Mettenberger. Boo.

Sitting Mariota till they can protect him better makes sense. I think it's clear that he can play at an NFL level but they can't run the ball or block for shit.

I expected Mariota to be good but I have to say I'm impressed with Winston's play. My expectations for him were really low and he's liked very good out there for a rookie.
Winston had a rough start. I still hate him, but I'm glad the Bucs are outperforming expectations
I don't know where you could begin to fix the Titans. 5 wins in 2 years, it's going to take much more than a QB (even one with as much potential as Mariota) to begin to fix that.

Well the passing game should be good next year, if DGB could be a stud if he puts it together and walker stepped up this year. But it seems like the rest of the roster all needs help. Either they need to keep hitting on all their high draft picks (looks like the Raider finally figured this out?) or pick one side of the team and concentrate on that first (think this is what the jags are doing.)
Secrets, lies, and tragedy. The trifecta.

in a completely unsurprising turn of events people are saying rex ryan needs to be fired. I could go either way really, but whatever does happen I think the bills owe him for getting tyrod in there. I can say with 100% certainty doug marrone would not have brought someone like him in.
The Tyrod decision was great, and I think Rex should stay at least another year for doing it. That said, he's made numerous other mistakes he shouldn't be off the hook for, and some are damning (immediate one comes to mind: Shady tore his MCL, yet Rex isn't ruling him out for the Jets game "just yet". Incredibly irresponsible to risk his health for a meaningless week 17 game).
If he's canned in 2017, or anytime soon after that, I don't see him getting another HC job. Replacing Marrone and immediately doing worse than he did is one thing, but going on to consistently do worse will probably doom him. The team, and especially Rex, needs to improve from here
here's what people think about this bills season with some of my thoughts: for me I was hoping they could finish strong and at least say "well we didn't make the playoffs but we have a good base"(even if they won the last 4 games they probably wouldn't have made it), which isn't happening now so everything is hitting all at once. there's obviously something wrong with the defense but no one really knows what, and a lot of the fanbase was not happy at the start of the season when he replaced schwartz with dennis thurman. it's also likely that mario williams will not be on the team next year because there's been conflict between the defensive players and the defensive staff, which again probably comes back to schwartz leaving.
so that's a hot mess right now. but on the flip side they look like they are starting to figure out how to use sammy watkins and mccoy and have a quarterback that can throw to watkins so the offense should be better next year when there won't be a bunch of new pieces and a 3 way quarterback competition

How the fuck do you fire Rex after one year? That's like Browns level dumb.
Honestly, I kinda feel like one game is a bit light unless it's coupled with a fine or whatever, but at this point in the season I'm pretty shocked that ANYTHING happened.

Compare it to other suspensions in the NFL and it's fair.

A suspension is also a fine because you don't get your game check.
Though he is on a rookie contract so it's probably not a super hefty one.
Charles Woodson is retiring at the end of the season, just announced.
Aw.
Well. I'm sad to see him go. Even when he was in Green Bay he was one of my favorite players ever. But at least he'll be retiring as a Raider! And it's probably best to retire now, after a pretty damn great season. He's been having issues with that shoulder all year too.
Still, though, I'm gonna miss him. End of an era, right there.

Norman covered him pretty well except for the dropped touchdown pass. After that he was in the slot a bunch and still couldn't get anything going. It wasn't until that last drive that he caught anything at all, at which point he began to look like a cartoon character with the celebrations. Not a bad thing, just a thing.
Listening to Trent Dilfer talking about OBJ being put in a bad guy bucket and he shouldn't and blah blah blah.
This shit will all be forgotten in a week.
I dunno. Hasn't OBJ already earned a reputation for being a primadonna? It might be a bullshit reputation, but I definitely saw it getting written up in places. And I think with the history of WRs like Randy Moss and Chad Ochocinqo and Terrell Owens, I think a lot of people are going to want to perpetuate this narrative.

Well. A scheme change will do that. Ryan's primarily used to running a 3-4, not a 4-3. Also definitely read a lot of stuff about how Jim Schwartz's departure made a lot of sense - he's a former HC whose expertise in defense; if he didn't mesh with Ryan's philosophy perfectly, that wasn't going to be a recipe for success. Dunno about this Thurman guy though.

Ugh...i hope it isn't true but words now is that Norman was using homophobic slurs directed at OBJ and told him he was going to end his career.

That's fucked up and if it's true I hope they fine the shit out of him (they obviously won't suspend him at this point). Josh Norman is a good corner but he's had attitude problems all year long and he needs to realize that there are players in this league that are more trouble than they're worth, no matter how good they are, and he does not want to become such a player.

My bold prediction was going to be that they were both going to have TDs in that game.
I don't know how bold of a prediction that actually is, but it felt like a good one.

Norman also acted like a baby with his actions and some of his comments.
Beckham did enough to get suspended with that helmet to helmet hit.
Refs failed both teams.
That's my take on it.
