This just seems easier, dunnit?
I'll post my review here later tonight.
A solid 5/7 experience.

Uh
Sure!
Also, I liked it a lot, but will probably like it less the further I get from it. It has a lot of problems, but it's a good time.
I am ok with the fact that it borrowed heavily from A New Hope, I see that as them wanting to go with something familiar and to wash away the prequels. Was more than a few call backs and rehashed dialog from the older films, and yea I could have done without Han Solo saying "I've got a bad feeling about this" and probably a few other bits of dialogue, but the big ones are out of the way I think so lets hope they move past the old Tropes and make some new ones.
I thought all the new characters were great and I look forward to seeing them grow.
One thing that I wasn't too impressed with was how Snoke looked.. that was a meh since they were all hush hush about it. [
Plot has some issues for sure.. some bits I could makeup a "reasonable" explanation , like Han and Chewie getting to the Falcon so quick after it was used to escape Jakku, my thoughts where they had been continually looking for it since it disapeered and since it was off and gathering dust for so long whatever tracking measures Han had were not working.. so when they used it to escape the falcon popped on there radar again and bam, a quick hyperspace jump brought them to it...

Really enjoyed it. I only felt like there were a few missteps, among them the facial expression range of Carrie Fisher and a block of action in the middle that felt pretty pointless. I understand what they were going for (establishing a connection between Solo, Finn, and Rey), but it felt like action for the sake of action.
The movie's success to me is that the new characters are likable and engaging. I have plot quibbles, but I am invested in the stories of Finn and Rey and Poe and Kylo, so seeing Episode VIII has already been sold to me.
yea that has me excited, Brick was amazing.. Looper.. not so much but still enjoyable.
..is it too late to recast Brian Cranston as Snoke?
I'm super happy with how this one turned out. FYI, the soundtrack is up on spotify yay.

I love the swerves they were giving with the posters, making you think Finn was the force sensitive. By the end of the film you're screaming "It's Luke's kid!" I mean that showdown between Ren and Riley is going to be great.
Oh, the other thing that I was disappointed in? Captain Phasma, should have been WAY more of a badass.
Oh, and Rey is totally Luke's kid.
(I'd also prefer him not to be aswell, I like his character becuase he is powerless)
I think Kylo Ren knew something was off about his behavior in the village with him being the lone stormtrooper losing his mind in the middle of a battlefield/massacre.
I think Finn is a Force Sensitive as well, big agree there.
Phasma will be in Ep 8, confirmed by the writer, and she is a much more important character in that movie according to the director and actress. This was just an introduction so you'll know the name come Ep 8.
The poster gave a pretty big hint with the way its frames Rey next to Ren, with her staff and his saber running parallel.
Also in regards to world building, remember Tha this time we know there are going to be other movies. With the first the plan was constantly changing and it had to work as a one off just in case it didn't do well enough to warrant a sequel. Here we know we're getting more and so the filmmakers can plan accordingly, leaving some details for later films. Perhaps not the best way to handle everything, but neither is rushing through exposition or loading the film with info dumps.
Thats just my read on the whole thing though.
Phasma seems made to be the Boba Fett parallel: Cool armor, few lines, obviously a badass, threat to the main characters, never given the chance to really show how awesome she is, goes out like a punk.
I think in the next movie they will show how Boba Fett should have been done by giving Phasma considerable screentime being a badass threat.
If she doesn't spend all of Ep VIII hunting down Fin and just lighting up the Resistance in the process I'm gonna be really surprised. I'd also put money down that Ep VIII ends with her capturing Fin and rebrainwashing him into being a stormtrooper again.
That moment where Finn's helmet got "painted" was pretty heavy.
You kind of get desensitized by the all limbs getting burned off with lightsabers so I guess seeing somebody actually bleed took me off guard for a moment.
All new Finn Stormtrooper action figure complete with psychologically scarring blood stains. He wakes up every night and sees their faces. In stores now!
:bigfrown:
None of this would shock me. She, as much as Kylo Ren, has every reason to hunt down the resistance, and Finn especially. It would be pretty easy for the character to draw a straight line from "Finn defects" to "Everything goes to shit".
Max von Sydow's character - there has to be something more to him, right? Who was he? Did he really die?
They mention that the Republic supports the Resistance. Why are they separate in the first place? Why aren't they the same thing?
The planet destroyed by Starkiller Base - was that Coruscant?
Speaking of planets, do we know the names of the ones other than Jakku? The Resistance looks like it might've been on Dantooine maybe? And Luke on Manaan?
ANH had that chopped up bloody arm in the cantina and those burned up corpses.
Or at least I thought I did.
That's what immediately jumped to mind for me. She got the full history of the saber.
Also an interesting use of the force.
This is the open spoiler thead. Hard to break habit
I think the Republic supporting the Resistance is a big deal because either the Republic and First Order are supposed to be at peace OR the First Order is still the military arm of the Republic and its their way of trying to push back without outright causing a military coup.
It's probably Coruscant. I don't think anyone knows?
The Resistance base had a system name (remember the convo between Fin and BB) but it wasn't Dantooine.
I don't think anyone knows the name of the planet Luke was hiding on.
Huh, this is a really good point and I like that line of thought
It wasn't Coruscant on the business end of an earth shattering kaboom, apparently the Republic elects a new capital planet every few years, partly to break from the past of both the Empire and the old Republic. Also its military is pretty decentralised, having a relatively small main fleet while relying on locally raised self defence fleets in individual systems. These reforms suggest that while that planet's destruction is a terrible blow, it ultimately isn't a fatal one. I haven't been able to dig up enough on the wider political situation though
I really like that moment, she's thinking wohooooo fat loot time, then, NOOOOOOOOPE!
I definitely heard it
Also Luke's "No" from Empire.
if luke is rey's father, who is rey's mother?
why does maz have luke's lightsaber?
dot dot dot
She saw and experienced all the hardships of that mantle and is knowingly taking it on. As opposed to Luke who had no idea what he was really committing to when he started his training.
Her revulsion to taking up the saber makes sense in this context.
I had written off Max's character as unimportant for now. But, the thing is that he is on the same planet that Rey is, and he has the map to Luke, and he knows Kylo. But, if he were meant to give the map to Rey, then he wouldn't have tried to give it to Poe. There isn't anything to say that Max knows Rey, but it's such a strong echo of Obi-Wan and Luke that it's not wise to ignore it.
