Hmm that previous post could read as dismissive, which wasn't my intent. I had just assumed that it would be the sort of slang where you could trace the etymology, but if the rhyme itself is omitted, then it's pretty much just a complete guessing game (which based on the apparent origin, was clearly the point). That's cool just... different from what I expected.
The whole point of Cokney rhyming slang is that it is one step removed from the rhyme
Guys I'm reading Console Wars
And Sega has been fielding ideas from two ad agencies for the new campaign for Sonic 2, and the favorite is this hotshot agency called Wieden+Kennedy which they consider basically a lock
And they go to the presentation and it sounds like just the gaudiest 90s thing, and then there's this:
And it was called “vidspeak,” the concept of new, hip, future-is-now language that Wieden+Kennedy had invented as the backbone of their campaign. The agency provided a sampler from the vidspeak lexicon, which included the following words, terms, and phrases:
Gearlets: The vidspeak word for gamers. Also known as gamelets, gameys, whoossies, vidiots, speaklets, bossaroos, and cluelets. Hedgy wedgy: Anything pertaining to Sonic The Hedgehog, or to any fan of said Sonic The Hedgehog. Also that cute little way Sonic has of stamping his foot when he can’t believe you’re so slow and stupid. (See Slow geezer trying to play the game) Whammy jammy: The way you feel when playing a good game. Gobble-degoop: Running wild. Running fast. Running all over the place without time to say “Hasta la vista, baby.” (See Sonic The Hedgehog) Mobile mover with wings: What gamers will call the Game Gear. Also referred to as the a-to-go-cup, a minda-rama, a home away from home, and a great thing to wrap your knozzles around. Master blaster: What you do when you start playing the Sega Menacer Master Module. Or, how to be a real sure-shot full-tilt accu-sight kind of guy. I was Brahms: I was drunk with power. I was mad with passion. I was blitzed with energy. I was actually able to reach the next damn level.
What is this
What is any of this
Needless to say they didn't end up going with this but holy shit nobody knew how to sell a video game back then
It's late, but welcome to the club! Along with Game Over, Console Wars is one of my favorite books.

Yeah it's a form of slang that was invented to be deliberately obtuse 'cos the rozzers might be listening in
I really enjoyed the story Console Wars told because the early days of the industry were fucking buck wild
But every time dialogue was featured it pulled me right out
Nobody has ever spoken like that and you can't make me believe that they have
And it was totally unneeded! I half-suspected it was b/c the author's a screenwriter and he wanted to use that to show he can write the movie script too

"As for the setting, it takes place in the world of A Certain Magical Index where you’ll get to see familiar characters pilot the “Virtuaroids” mechas as part of a sport. We don’t have any info as far as gameplay goes, but Sega is calling it a high-speed action game and they’re looking to put in the experience gained from working on past Virtual-On games to shape up its action."
Also, this is the second time they've met, as apparently there was a crossover light novel last year.
The thread title seems very appropriate right now.

Alright BRB, throwing this monkey's paw into the dumpster.
Are they making a new VO but the robots are piloted by bad anime stereotypes?
Cause if it plays like the old ones I'll deal.
This setting is basically high-school X-Men. The crossover is pretty baffling for a robot fighting game; it strikes me as reductive, not additive. By adding a cool thing to the setting (mechs), it takes away all the cool things about that setting (battles between people with wildly mismatched super powers). Like, why wouldn't they just use one of a myriad of other extremely popular animes that are actually about mechs?

Virtual-On with Zoids would be the jammiest of my jams.

And if anyone wants it for cheap, it's about $1.72 on Amazon Kindle as I type this: https://www.amazon.com/Console-Wars-Nintendo-Defined-Generation-ebook/dp/B00FJ379XE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?&linkCode=sl1&tag=techr051-20&linkId=956d25fbd694534d405d0c4ac42747e5

Happy Birthday Knuckles
He was rougher than the rest of them
But every time dialogue was featured it pulled me right out
Nobody has ever spoken like that and you can't make me believe that they have
Well
Maybe... he can't
That's a weird version of the Canadian flag.
Not really
He just peppers in dialogue throughout the book, it's not like suddenly here's a chapter written like a novel
How did I not see this until now. I just put all the Skies of Arcadia music in my Spotify playlist.
Hrrrmmmm
Come on Square-Enix, put TWEWY music on here.
like everything looks like it's made of plastic now
And Knuckles at the end made me giggle.

When it's good news in the Sega thread, it's surprise, like, "Woah, hey, what the fuck, this isn't the Sega we know"
Then when it's bad news it's business as usual.
Yeah, but I used my monkey paw wish to get a monkey paw without drawbacks.
