Suggesting the presence of consistent Sonic lore is more shocking than anything else. This is a series which killed off two of its most popular characters (Gamma in SA1 and Shadow in SA2), and then immediately replaced both with... clones? Completely different characters with similar/ the same names? And just shrugged the whole thing off.
eh, omega's actually pretty different from gamma in terms of characterization
and for shadow they teased at him maybe being a clone or something for a bit before throwing their hands up and declaring that he just didn't actually die in sa2 and has chronic amnesia problems that he should probably get a doctor to look at
Linking their lore straight to sonic adventure doesn't require them to acknowledge any of that anyway, they'll just include whatever they want and not worry about the rest.

Tho tbf the confirmation that he was the original Shadow, not a clone, came from Eggman cheering Shadow on while he saved the planet from an alien invasion. So. Maybe not the most verified of information.
There's apparently a new job posting for Associate Manager of Lore with Sonic Team: Link
Reporting to the Director of Lore and Creative Strategy, the Sonic Team is seeking an Associate Manager, Lore to support the growing needs of our lore team. With both project management and creative duties, you will be immersed in the organizing and shaping of Sonic lore, canon, characters, and universes, helping to bring consistency, connectivity, and creativity to all things Sonic across various forms of media including games, animation, comics, and more. Codifying the current status while planning for the future, you will help the lore team stay organized, prioritized, and galvanized, all while facilitating transparency and communication across the organization.
One of the entries in "preferred skills" is "extremely well-versed in all things Sonic (lore, characters, games, animations, comics, movies, etc.)".
I posted my thoughts on frontiers in the general video game thread, but honestly they should probably go here too:
so in an uncharacteristic turn I've stopped talking about the reviews for sonic frontiers and grabbed the game myself
as far as I can tell I'm about a fifth of the way through the game, just over four hours in, and I'm really enjoying it so far!
the controls are a bit different for the series and took some getting used to, but it's genuinely a lot of fun to just run around in the open world, collect shit, fight dudes, and solve puzzles
honestly this feel like the first time a game has let me fuck around and just enjoy the freedom of sonic's mobility since, like... the overworld in sonic adventure one?
also the boss fights are a blast and that is not normally something you can say for a sonic, even at his best
the fishing minigame is neat, albeit slight, and honestly the change in the writer is paying dividends (though you can feel him bumping up against what sega will actually allow)
the weakest part of the package is, both surprisingly and unsurprisingly, the "traditional" levels in cyberspace
if we get another one of these I'd prefer to see them discarded and more resources put toward filling the overworld with more shit
and like, I know, I'm a fan, I'm predisposed to like this shit, but like a lot of fans I haven't been happy with the franchise in a long time, and I straight up skipped forces because it looked like doodoo
and I also know that this franchise has a tendency to show signs of life every few years and then go back to being shit, and I shouldn't get my hopes up, but at least for the moment I'm enjoying this stupid blue rat again
This was the first "in the wild" gameplay footage I saw and initially I was kinda down on it; it really didn't feel like Sonic to me, from both an aesthetic and a narrative angle
But then I got to the end of the video and I realised I was completely wrong, this is one hundred and ten percent OG Sonic, it's just that this is a Sonic we haven't seen in literal decades
Frontiers Sonic is carrying the vibes of ABC tv show Sonic, of earnestly dramatic Archie comics Sonic, but given the production values of a mainline game and the gravitas of fans-turned-writers drawing inspiration from Nier Automata
this fucking rules

Watched the Sonic 2 movie over the weekend and it was a hoot. Looking forward to the 3rd. Given the initially outrageous but ultimately fantastic voice casting of Idris Elba as Knuckles, who do we think Shadow is gonna be?

I'm voting Nicolas Cage
Cage would be great, but I'm putting forward Jason Statham

Ehh, giving his performance in Toy Story 4, I don't think he's really up for voice acting. To my memory, there was nothing really notable about his voice work in that movie that would set him apart from anyone else doing that role. Whereas it feels someone doing Knuckles other than Elba would be very noticeable.

He did good enough in Cyberpunk, though he really just has to play a narcissistic tool for the most part.

Just gotta ponder on who does the best unironic, completely un-self-aware edgelord kinda voice.
A big day for SEGA leaks today, about the "Super Game" and a very interesting remake
so for a while, pretty much since the Persona 3 Portable modern rerelease was revealed, there's been rumors of a P3 remake in the works at Atlus.
On the 4th, a Twitter user tweeted this footage in response to a Persona concert news story:
The account claims it's from a deleted Reddit post, and their account was made at the end of March with the only tweets being footage/screenshots of what appears to be a P3 remake.
Today they tweeted this footage, supposedly from an internal SEGA presentation from 2021, claiming they got it from a DM from someone else:
This footage contains the alleged P3 Remake clip, but also a never-before-seen clip of Sonic Frontiers, and a new look for an older-looking Beat from Jet Set Radio dancing in Shibuya
There are two VERY interesting things about this footage:
1. That Sonic clip has a bossfight that was cut from the game, and only revealed in an artbook. If this is fanmade, that's a very specific detail.
2. The JSR footage apparently lines up with an earlier obscure leak of a survey SEGA put out asking about possible artstyles for a JSR reboot in 2022, this one matches some of the mockups, and is corroborated by SEGA fansite/news site SEGAbits:
And then, another Japanese user finds and tweets out a new URL they discovered, http://p3re.jp/ (leads to a holding page for now)
And the registry info, registered on March 15th,:

Also a guy from the professional-seemingXboxEra Podcast claimed out of the blue last week to have seen screenshots of the Skies of Arcadia remaster. They're followed by Mike Mika, MVG and Jeff Grubb so it might be legit?
edit: my big question wrt a possible full remake of p3 is, will the kids still invoke by magically blowing their brains out with a magical pistol

With a third as Creative Consultant, who currently writes the IDW book.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!

Definitely one of the cooler sets I've built, still baffled that it's considered """18+""" though.
Have you Googled Sonic? Definitely an 18+ franchise from what I've seen

Cage would be great, but I'm putting forward Jason Statham
but I think it's pretty clear they've been building up Stone as a replacement for Carey in case something happens that would necessitate a recast

Ooh, maybe Will Arnett
Ooooh, I like that.
I mean, they're never not gonna cast it as an A-lister, but that's a damn good choice.
Though I will give them credit for very surprisingly using the actual voice actor from some of the games for Tails.
