Someone last night said to post a SS of me surviving the match in my ultra crab at only 17% health.
You got mobbed by an entire lance. I take sole credit of them not completely steamrolling you by poking them with my triple LPL while I was running away like a little bitch while using you as my shield.
With the Viper though, think of what PGI's artists could do for it! If they can make the Nova not look dumb, they can do it with the Dragonfly.
The Blood Kite, though, is an ugly, rancid, stupid-looking 'Mech that not even PGI's art geniuses can salvage. Bane wins, hands down in that matchup.
I dunno...aside from the large lasers looking like AC20 barrels, I kinda like the look of the thing. It's hideous, sure...but a giant missile launcher strapped to three cannons sat atop a rocket is going to look hideous no matter what you do.

definitely jester, definitely BJ-3, which leaves 150 tons of other stuff. It's hard to make an IS deck without any assaults, anymore
Why do you want an IS deck without assaults? Some Assaults are still quite good, like the STK. STK+TDR is 150.
You could run 2x Orions or Marauders, 2x Grasshoppers wouldn't be bad even if you don't max out tonnage. There's not much you can do without grabbing an Assault.
You actually have 155 tons to mess with. Any chance you're a Banshee 3M fan? 95/60 could work with a 73kph assault running an XL400. A Battlemaster moves at 82 kph and would go pretty well with a Grasshopper. Sure, you're in an XL assault, but it moves like a Heavy and brings some pretty nice firepower. Just have to work on your twisting to spread out damage. A BLR-2C is pretty durable and has decent agility quirks.
MWO disagrees with that value assessment. And my time spent in a dual-gauss Jager (putts along at 48kph) or nearly any of my Dire Wolf builds is in line with small rocks winning that engagement.

Your dual gauss jager going only 48kph is cause its a bad build.

Wait, he had 155? In that case, STK+GHR, done. That's a really strong combo. STK-4N + GHR-5H bring all your laser needs.
Mmmm, XL Jagers. The most delicious of side-torso kills.
That said, some Jager builds just can't avoid having an XL. One of the occupational hazards.
Yeah, if you want to run dual gauss you gotta have XL.
slow speed will kill you faster than an XL in most mechs.
On the other hand, slow speed means I show up to the fight after all the armor's been stripped off enemy mechs. All the better to drill in deep with a double-barreled gauss.
EDIT - and the tragic/funny part is that the dual-gauss Jager *isn't* my slowest mech. That distinction goes to my Cataphract-4X (quad-AC5)

I ran into a masakari who apparently decided he was too cool for leg armor since my locust chewed through both legs before he could turn around
guys: put armor on your mechs, it's kind of important!

No, being slow just means that your team runs away from you and either dies in front of you before you get there and you have to face 6 guys on your own -or- it means that your team is just nascaring and because you're the slowest, the entire enemy team runs up behind you and you have to face 10 guys on your own.

Being slow is terrible.
MWO is very much a game where speed is paramount.
You don't need to be 150kph, but you need to be faster than 48kph, especially as a heavy, you should be moving almost twice that speed.

It's actually not nearly as bad as you'd think. I mean, it's not even remotely close to being a "good" build (on either CTF or JM builds)...but it's surprisingly not terrible.

Seriously, even with being slow, not dying on a ST loss has allowed me to get the drop on people who stop shooting at me and start to turn away to leave me for dead far more times than I care to remember. And maybe I'm unclear on what your definition of "competitive". Bear in mind, I don't touch CW and don't ever intend to.

I believe 2x Marauder, Grasshopper and a Crab is the exact weight of the current drop deck. It's what I was running a day or two ago in CW, anyway.
I hate most assaults too and find anything but the Stalker to be a liability in CW, so naturally my deck doesn't have one. You can totally use all your tonnage between mediums and heavies.
It pains me that they are probably keeping totem mechs for individual packs, which makes a lot of sense, but puts me further from the Kodiak. My tears are so salty.
But you can imagine a totem pack for GB?
It's just the grizzly and kodiak, ripping things apart. Even the grizzly, the 70 ton heavy, has a neat prime loadout of 1 gauss, 1 lrm10, and one of each weight of pulse laser. There's gotta be some good hardpoints in there.

So I've been playing this a bunch recently with a couple of friends. I've been running Centurions a lot to try to master them, I've got a Thunderbolt, a Jaeger and an Atlas DDC, but now I'm looking for something else. I'm not sure I want to try light piloting yet, that still scares me, but I am enjoying the Centurion a whole lot. What mediums are fun to use? I'm also considering just getting a King Crab because they are super fun.

There are a crap ton of ancient clan second line units like the Grizzly and the Supernova though.

there are a handful of ancient early clan omnis hanging about in TR 3055 and TR 3058
like the Kingfisher
I think if the Kodiak and Turkina are off the table the Kingfisher would be a good design to have in MWO

I would pay a legitimately stupid amount of money for a Marauder IIC, Warhammer IIC, and Nova Cat pack...maybe toss in a Shadow Hawk IIC or Incubus.

Put a bigger engine in it.
JM6-S 2xGauss 4xSL, 260XL, Endo DHS
Personally with the gauss nerf though I'd be more inclined to run.

don't wanna spend the time to skill them up, don't really wanna drive something that slow even in cw, etc.
maybe I'll just ditch the BJ-3 and play a four heavy deck

The Panther's a peeker/poker, not a sprinter. Play it to its strengths, and it'll do work.
Unfortunately its got wolverinitus and everyone knows to shoot for the gun arm.
I'll play to the Panther's poking strength by piloting a Raven.
Armchair: 4098-3704-2012
sure, if you want a bigger profile with worse hitboxes and damage potential.

Hopper has better quirks and can actually shoot things if the terrain isn't perfectly flat.
unlike the Black Knight.
