Irritated that the hero one apparently doesn't count (R) resistance mechs.
This includes any of the 'Special' variant 'Mechs from a pre-order package, such as a Founder 'Mech [F], Phoenix 'Mech [P], Resistance 'Mech [R], UrbanMech, Invasion 'Mech, Classic Mech, or Sarah's JR7-D Jenner 'Mech.
I swear it didn't say (R) when I read it.

I...I don't see the point in that build.
You would chain fire your 6 ER PPCs and need to wait to cool down before you could fire again.
Or poptart alpha and overheat.
Maybe that's the point.
It's the Overtoasted Poptart build.
(I may be completely wrong about its terrible heat efficiency, but on my stalker with two regular PPCs and way more heat sinks, I get maybe 4 dual-shots off before reaching critical heat levels)

Did PGI ever fix the broken weirdness of the Direstar? I seem to recall it bugging out the heat system, and somehow not spontaneously combusting when it fired a salvo like that.

Direwolves make me sad
You can't possibly fit a heat/weight efficient energy setup in one because it's engine is so tiny

Yes. Originally you didn't take any CT damage if you overheated but shut down. The fix is now you always take CT damage for overheating.
Is there a functional downside to just overriding the shutdown and not shooting for the X number of seconds a shutdown would put you out of commission for? If all a shutdown does is make you an immobile target that can't shoot, as opposed to a mobile target that "can't" shoot.

I thought there was something weird/buggy when a Direstar shot its wad, that even after the Overheat Damage was patched in, something wasn't triggering the damage right.
Your internals start taking damage when your heat goes over 100%.
Yeah, but they go over 100% when you shutdown, too.
Unless they've changed it, shutdown keeps your heat from rising further, while cutting off the lasers prematurely. Overriding shutdown keeps the lasers firing, causing more heat, causing more internal damage.
Trying to figure out how to approach this Event, though to be honest I'm probably sitting it out until the community susses out the rewards.
So, the only Champion 'Mechs in my IS account stable are the Jenner F and Cicada 2A champions. Ummm. Hrmm.
Eight Quick Play matches with a score of 150, in one of those two. Hrm.
Trial mechs count for champion status, if that helps.
But the cockpit seat cushion won't have my precise butt-imprint! How am I supposed to operate under such conditions? :P
More seriously, I'm totally fine with running either of those two 'Mechs, it's just been a loooooong while since I was in either. I looked at their Quirks to see what might be good, but it looks like they're both pretty vanilla energy boats at this point.

I don't think I have any. Are any of the trial mechs Champion Mechs? Or maybe that Cicada event reward?

Aren't all the trial mechs (C) (i.e. Champion) mechs?

They mostly are, but I dunno if they count for the event. That said, they've given out a fair number of Champion mechs for free over the past year.

No wait, the game is 3052, cause the Cicada 3F. Which means one more year AND WE GET THE BUSHWHACKER. and two years for the Hollander.

Hell, I might do something dumb like this, just for a lark: JR7-F(C): 1xPPC, 5xSL, XL280, 2xJJ, 12xDHS
