I seem to be in the minority of liking the gravel delivery of EIVOR, but boy does neither protag hold a candle to KASSANDRA. These aren't bad performances in the slightest but whomever was the VA in AC:O really knocked it out of the part (at least as the protag).

I am almost done with Legacy of the Blade, then was planning on shotgunning through Atlantis before moving on to Valhalla. The stupid aforementioned bug keeping me from playing Valhalla plays a part also.

Is Atlantis that bad? Should I just spend my time finding the remaining vantage points and fully upgrading the Adrestia instead?

It could be I just wanted to run through it as fast as possible. But like the set up for Atlantis had me thinking there would be a pay off there for the modern storyline and there just isn't. And two of the zones have really shit navigation (water and like heights that sometimes you can climb, sometimes you have to use magical teleporters to get to places).

If you wanted more Izu stuff? Its aces, if you wanted some kind of set up for Valhalla? Non existent from what I saw. Though admittedly maybe I fucked up and got the "bad" ending for the dlc and like if you knew going in the right choices things would be different?

Yes. It is a pretty bad launcher in general. Seems to really only serve the purpose of directing people to the MTX shop.

Ubisoft Connect also doesn't let me disable in-game overlay notifications.

Well, it does. It just ignores that and then shows them anyway.

UPlay, or whatever they call it now, is definitely a dumpster fire. I thought with EA slowly starting to divest from Origin we were getting past the days of publishers wanting to foist terrible launchers on us....but Ubisoft seems to be doubling down.

I also legit looked up the ending of the atlantis storyline and nope nothing I did changed what the ending was. Wow man glad I played it when I did, if I had waited 6 weeks for that I'd have been less than happy.

Oh man I actually love the male VA for Eivor.

He was a major dickhead in the Last Kingdom but I have always loved his voice. It's just so unique.

Male Eivor has an amazing voice as I stated above. I actually don't know what the female one sounds like so I can't help there.

Got stuck with a game breaking bug at first. Got through the opening cutscene, then just softlocked on a never-ending white loading screen. Tried changing settings, reinstalling and a bunch of other stuff. Then finally found an absurd sounding solution on reddit that cleared it up.
Open the game via ACValhalla_Plus directly from the game folder
Go to option > Interface > General and turn off alternative hold
Go to screen > Turn on vsync into adaptive and also make the game into fullscreen (not borderless)

Now start new games, and wait until the white screen then you alt tab, open the task manager and you should see that ACValhalla processes use almost 100% of cpu usage, wait until its just using 30% or so usage, then you alt tab again to the game.

Hopefully that's the last of the trouble, cause it seems to be running pretty smooth now, but what an absolute mess. I don't think I've had a AAA pc game have such an obtuse bug in probably a decade.

Liking Valhalla so far. The female Eivor sounded like a real tryhard so I'm going with the more mellow male Eivor so far. A bit disappointed actually since Kassandra was top notch.

Anyway. Is the upgrade system as annoying as in Odyssey? I'm afraid to use any resources if I'm expected to upgrade weapons every 5 levels to not fall behind.

It's very different. And a way better system(imo) Since all gear can be upgraded to the maximum quality.

You have both the regular upgrades and then the quality increase upgrades between those that unlock more levels of regular upgrades.

So you can take a piece of equipment you like and actually make it relevant all game.

And gear is just randomized drops so you will go through way less gear.

Not sure, but the prices for early game materials at merchants (iron, leather, etc...) is only 1 silver each and you can earn 200 silver a piece the first time you take on a particular flyt or drinking horn challenge, so I haven't been shy at upgrading weapons and my quiver and ration bags. Haven't been focusing on armor yet, because even on hard enemy damage (save the red flashing moves of boss level guys, which can almost 1 hit you) isn't scaling psychotically fast the way it could in Odyssey.

It makes more sense when you look at it.

But yea the basic little upgrades seem pretty cheap at least early. And then if the gear you have is something you like you can upgrade it's quality (I forget the names but you know like normal, superior, rare, mythic or in wow terms green, blue, purple orange). So any weapon you get can become mythic if you want. And since you don't have character levels neither does the gear.

So you don't have to find a new lvl 42 weapon because your current weapon is 30 and falling behind and you already upgraded so now it's way too expensive. None of that.

It's just separated into quality. And you can upgrade any lower quality gear into the higher quality gear.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the order of metal needed from a basic piece of gear to mythic is normal iron->carbon iron->nickle->tungstun->titanium, with various numbers of ingots needed depending on the type of equipment you're upgrading.

Not sure if the stronger types will be available in the wild from nodes or from merchants later on, but in the earliest Norway sections your sources for carbon iron are wealth chests and quest rewards.

Apparently Lady is canon default essentially (IIRC ‘Eivor’ is even a female name in old norse), but switches over to male on a few specific instances for plot reasons that get into spoiler territory.

Thus far I've found that how I'm listening has an effect on what I think of Lady Eivor's voice. With my surround system it gets kinda buried in the mix and I haven't found an EQ setting im happy with and it sounds thin and try hard, like others have said. Throwing on my 558's and its got the gravel I think its supposed to have and with either VA something from the beginning looms:
both seem to have rasp to their voice from the wolf mauling and while male Eivor is a little more consistent with his I still find Lady Eivor just fine to listen to, even if she's no Kassandra.

Yeah, I was going to make a joke about Ubi applying a cigarette smoker filter to Lady Eivor’s voice, but then I remembered that spoiler.

Also, the Dialogue Boost setting is great. That might help a bit with your surround system. AC Valhalla with Dialogue Boost is the first dialogue-heavy game I’ve played in a long, long time where I feel like I don’t need subtitles.

Anyone looking to go full backstabbing murderhobo, get the Stealth Recon skill ASAP (6 points into the blue/wolf skill tree). If you are crouched and undetected it'll show all enemies in a range that's equal or just a little bigger than an Odin's Sight pulse. Makes stealthing places to snag wealth a lot easier.

Maybe it's because I came to this game after Ghost of Tsushima, but I'm not really feeling the combat. At least not early on. Note that I do not have many upgrades or perks unlocked yet, I'm only a couple hours into the game. But the combat just feels very spammy and like there's a very low skill floor. Maybe enemies will get more difficult and be less likely to be staggered and interrupted in their attack animations, but right now it feels like I can basically win any fight just by relentlessly swinging. There doesn't seem to be much strategy or ebb and flow to combat.
