I added Risk Factions to my wishlist during the sale with the intent of picking it up towards the end possibly, but it got noticed and gifted.
Haven't fired it up yet but I remembered it looking like a fun variant when it was a console downloadable game.
Last night, after years of letting it languish on the good ol' backlog, I finished Mass Effect 3.
It was quite a bit of a journey considering my first Shep (manShep) got lost in some file backup/moving accident. Then I started my first femShep, who also got lost after completion of Mass Effect 3.
Took a while before I went through Mass Effect 1 and 2 again (with my rather completionist "no quest left behind" thinking, that takes a while) so I could finally get ME3 underway. But that also took a bit because I wanted to own all DLC (for one single, complete run.) and Bioware just doesn't discount shit. In the end I bit the bullet and went all in with the DLC just to get it over with.
So... ending thoughts:
What the ever-loving fuck!?
I had heard about the "3 buttons" ending but I expected at least some basic explanation with the choices presented. It makes no sense, comes out of nowhere, and the tone just doesn't fit with the past hour of sacrifice and pushing through no matter what.
Why in all the hells would suddenly a the "embodiment" of all reapers come out to tell you "oh yeah, err, something something variables. Here, just push a button."
It's not even the 3 buttons thing that annoys me, DX:HR did it and it fit the tone and the situation presented. Here it's just outta nowhere and with no real explanation other than "we need to finish this and we have no fucking idea how."
The series is worth it for the journey, but abso-fucking-lutely not for the destination.
yeah, it was really bad. i mean i can cut them some slack cause actual final endings that have some meaning are hard to write well, but it was pretty terrible, and thats why a lot of people were really upset. i try to just ignore it, and the final dlc the did was pretty fun and sort of makes up for it.
although im still mad at the also for the multiplayer. there was a weekend event every weekend, and one weekend they skipped it and on the website they were like, sorry we had some issues, but we'll be back next week better than ever... but it never did come back. and it was just a few weeks after releasing a new multiplayer pack and achievments some of which required the weekend special events. (shouts mass effect curses at the heavens)
Beyond not sticking the landing on their ending I'm also super disappointed at how they haven't made use of that great setting at all, and how their various endings also kind of poisoned the well for them just doing more in the same space with different characters. They could have have even done different styles of games in the same universe. Such a waste. Hopefully Andromeda can bring things back around again but it's already essentially ditching their established fiction apart from it being where your ship and crew are from.
Anyone willing to proxy a couple gifts for me? My wife was abandoned by both of her Secret Santa matches on Reddit Gifts and I'd like to get her a couple of Steam games, but without them being directly from me.
T_T
I have gotten several Steam gifts and I was really confused originally, since the first person (thank you, @Iolo !) used my reddit username, so I thought they were from my reddit secret santa. But I did notice there was a game that seemed to come from Shadowfire so I asked him if someone from reddit had contacted him, and he said no but was evasive! I don't come here to the PA forums often other than for Diablo 3 or to gloat about a FFRK relic pull that I did better than my husband on (:p), but he said it was from here and I really don't know what to say!
Thank you kendrick Iolo and thank you honey...you did not have to do that for me
She's here now!

Still a spare copy of Recettear left from the sale. Giving it away via direct gifting, using the code system to mix it up a bit, and totally not because everyone on my friends list has it already:

Man, thought I was going to hold out for the next Subnautica update (updates to the water mechanics/shaders and possibly other new shiny things.)
But after watching @Shade stream it for a few hours last Saturday, and playing Salt some Sunday and yesterday, I can't stay away. I can't resist the siren call of the alien deeps any longer.
So I'll be starting a new game and might as well stream it why not. Looking to go online sometime between 6-7 central tonight.

Welcome, @Raziya! You've reached an awfully nice community here. It's worth dropping by from time to time and talking about the playing and acquisition of games on Steam.
I'm really not a fan of jump scares. The tension of knowing that they're there also doesn't help.
I hate jump scares.
I don't remember there being any of them in either Tomb Raider or Bioshock Infinite.
Bioshock definitely has a really nasty one around the last act.
I can't for the life of me remember it.
But then, Bioshock Infinite was decidedly mediocre and forgettable.
Really? I loved Bioshock Infinite. Not as much as the original but way more than Bioshock 2.
Man, Bioshock 2 let me shoot harpoons at splicers and attach them to the wall. Then later in Minerva's Den I got a bitchin' laser. Also, I could magically hack things by shooting a cool crossbow at them. BioShock 2 was awesome.
I have to give thanks to both @tuxkamen and @Berylline for the kindness of their steamgift giveaways that I was lucky enough to win.
Thank you for Marlow Briggs tux, and thank you for Defense Grid 2, Beryl.
In Steam news I had bought Human Resource Machine during the sale and tried it out the other night.
I didn't sleep that night. It was Sunday night. Yesterday at work SUCKED.
Very fun game, VERY TRICKY. Fun, mostly fair, but figuring out how to do an IF-THEN-ELSE using their graphics was both a lightbulb moment and agonizing to implement. But enjoyable nonetheless. Recommended, but oh gods, you definitely need to have some sort of exposure to sequential programming. Object programming ain't gonna cut it.
Bioshock 2was a better game and world imo. Bioshock 1 had a better story and was obviously fresh. Infinite was refreshingly different in gameplay pacing, much quicker but the story was all over the place. It was good, just not laid out in a memorable way.

Bioshock 1 was a great experience, especially in the atmosphere and story department. Bioshock 2 was better in other things like weapons, plasmids, level design, gameplay.

I enjoyed all the Bioshocks in their respective place. 1 had a solid, twisted story and world, 2 built on that world with an other side of the coin feeling, and Infinite kind of wrapped it all up with an "All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again" kind of feeling to it.

Conquer Club has this option. I think its called freestyle(vs Sequential).
Never again!
My Starlight Motel pales in comparison to yours though. Its one of the ones I want to redo.
...I should probably finish Tomb Raider 2013.

How far have you gotten in Bioshock Infinite?
You know that part in the beginning past the flooded church thing?
I don't.
I don't think I've left the church.
Look man, I never said I was proud of my backlog.

The funny thing is I could have gotten Rise of the Tomb Raider for free when I got my X1 last week but I was holding out for the PC version.
Now it is announced and I'm so excited.
I need the hair physics. I need them.

The trip was a Christmas present from my wife. Pretty sure it's rude to do that (and she'd kill me) lol.
