There were actually a bunch of stories about Mary poppins, not just the one that got made into a movie. So it could be based on one/some of these.

They're all totally batshit, mind you.

I've read a lot of them, they're somewhere between Willy Wonka and Alice in Wonderland on the nonsense scale.

Showpiercer was interesting but I ultimately found it unsatisfying

Snowpiercer is fantastic and functions both as a thriller and an extremely dark comedy.

    Late but

    what

A lot of the way the movie was filmed and framed has a bleakly comic air about it. Tilda Swinton is ridiculous, the classroom is ridiculous, the dad and the daughter are almost straight comic relief until the end, Ed Harris's last line is ironic.

Especially the non-grizzly action segments are played for pratfalls and humor.

Like, the movie is dark as hell, but it's also strikingly funny. Intentionally so, I believe.

Something I've heard said of Korean films, (well, particularly Bong Joon-ho's films) is that they really don't stick to a single tone as much as western films tend to do. Horror and thriller films have a lot of really genuine comedy scenes and vice versa.

Yes, that was it. Fantastic, thank you. The sequel that other person wrote isn't great, but the initial premise of that first one is just such a cool idea.

A story with a similar note is Harry Turtledove's short story "The Road Not Taken."

I dunno if you dont take them too seriously theyre kind of fun "80s style silly dystopia" movies. And while pretty crude, I always enjoy anything where the obscenely rich are the bad guys.

Theyre exaggerated just enough that I can enjoy them. Theyre closer to the Escape from New York universe than anything realistic so I meet them half way with that

I just realised I've never watched Casablanca. I don't even really know what it's actually about.

My knowledge of the movie consists entirely of the images on the movie poster.

Rick Blaine came to Casablanca for the waters.

    Why

Because there is a high chance that it will introduce new information that recontextualizes parts of the film and/or give definitive answers to questions that were best left ambiguous, information which makes the fictional world of blade runner less rich and which will likely be hard to ignore

    Now on the flip side

If they turned blade runner into a franchise where every couple years deckard is investigating a new weird cyber punky case and it basically became a live action big budget version of The Big O minus the giant robots

Apparently that Casablanca sequel that's been in the works since forever is about a long lost son of Rick's, searching for his father. I dunno if that sounds too interesting to me though. What I really want is to see Rick and Renault going on adventures, exchanging witty repartee and realizing that they love each other and kissing

I dunno who the heck could possibly replace Humphrey Bogart and Claude Rains tho.

For years I was curious about if there was any Rick/Louis fanfiction out there - because I mean come on they totally have the hots for each other - but I was always too embarrassed to try searching for it. Anyway I finally bit the bullet and wound up reading this (very g rated) story: http://archiveofourown.org/works/601498. It's actually pretty good!
