Medleys are garbage. A good song is all about flow and if you just string chunks of different songs together, you're stripping away most of what made those songs good to begin with. Besides, I don't just want to hear "that one part of that one song", I wanna hear the full song.
I don't think her doing one song would have worked either. The mixing and arranging was just really poor. Maybe the musicians were too but you couldn't really hear anything clearly so
If its difficult to make out the "Rebel Rebel" riff you have fucked up sir.
If someone put a gun to my head and demanded that I watch Lady Gaga perform a medley of David Bowie songs I'd put my mouth around the barrel and do my best to be as comprehensible as possible in my screaming of "DO IT YOU PUSSY."

I have a lot of opinions on what Lady Gaga chose to do at the Grammys, but overall
She was a decent choice for someone to do a televised Bowie tribute, even if the execution was lacking.
I actually didn't become much of a Bowie fan until I got Heathen on a lark. I liked it so much I started exploring all his other forms. It may not be his greatest, but it's still holds it's own.

Nah, I don't care for Lady Gaga much at all, and frankly David Bowie is basically my birthsign and ethos, but if you asked me to cast a non-rock pop star to give tribute to the man...Ok, actually you have a point.

So it was the Brit Awards last night which I've not cared about in a long time, but Lorde performed Life on Mars as a tribute to Bowie, and it seems to have been much better received than the Intel advert from the Super Bowl:
That is how you do a medely. With the artists who actually played the songs night in and night out stringing them together effortlessly, and landing on one song to do in full. Bravo.
The more I thought about the Gaga one the angrier I got. A tribute should be stripped away of all that reminds you of the performer, to let the focus remain on the person who you're paying tribute to.
I don't remember Bowie being famous for playing his moving piano, so basically that was a "look how cool Lady Gaga is" moment, which can fuck right off in a TRIBUTE TO SOMEONE ELSE.

God, now that I think about it Lorde would have been the perfect choice for the Grammies. I personally enjoyed Gaga but Lorde could have maybe done Bowie more justice

but he'd give a song it's due
Aw, man, now it's clear what I'm reminded of.
That's spot on
But, he's not wearing a pair of Lennon glasses, or a mop-top wig or anything. How are we supposed to know who it's a tribute to?
I do think one song, well done, would have been way better.
Also I'm like apparently the one person in the world who hates that everyone fucking loves Heroes. My least-favourite mainstream Bowie song for sure.

and while he lived a good long life, and 84 isn't shabby by anyone's reckoning, can I just reiterate

I've not watched it yet myself, but I'm hoping it's as good as I'm hearing.
Yeah, I've seen that too. Sounds like it was a far more honest and straight-up tribute than a selfish medley.
Come on.
It's really good
