Clearly, this is cancer's super-dick attempt to take back the 69 symbol. Fuck cancer.

What the fuck is going on here...

Lemmy went on to take back Hell, Bowie went on to take back Heaven, and now Alan Rickman went on to become Metatron.

But in all seriousness, another genuinely wonderful and kind man was taken by an awful, awful disease and this is fucking terrible.

I'm sure that this is true of most calendar years, but, dang is 1946 fuckin' stacked with great actors and actresses.

Keep in mind: People who are 68 will be turning 69 this year, like my dad.
    http://www.imdb.com/search/name?birth_year=1947

The list Rickman was on was of people who are 69 and will be turning 70 this year.

Two days after the launch of the album that was his goodbye, too. It's really quite incredible.

He had a stroke a little while ago and is in a wheelchair, so he's pretty unwell.

Charles Dance and Tim Dalton are also 69, though, and apparently in rude health.

    Right. That's it.

I don't think 2016 will be able to come back from this. Let's hope 2017 will be a nice year.

Is there any way to trade Anthony Daniels for the guaranteed safety of the rest of this year's English 69?

    I mean

he was in a wide variety of really, really great movies

even if some of them don't do it for you there's something else somewhere else you'd be into besides Robin Hood, I'm sure.

Rickman's best acting moments for me, and there are many, had to be the last Potter film when Harry dived into his memories.

    I'M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!!!

Rickman was in great movies and some mediocre movies but he was always great.

No matter how bad the movie was there was always pleasure in Rickman's character.

People like to shit on Kevin Costner, but I really like that movie.

He was really good as Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd too.

Alan Rickman was in a goofball parody and a stoner comedy and (at least) one romantic comedy. He did the comedy hat trick.

Prince of Thieves isn't a bad movie. Rickman absolutely steals it with his portrayal of The Sheriff though.

It's at least 500 times better than Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe.

It's probably the best Robin Hood movie. Or at worst, tied with Men In Tights.

They're making a new one called Robin Hood: Origins.

I can promise that Prince of Thieves is better

Prince of Thieves feels like it's been criticized in hindsight mostly because of Costner's attempt at an accent. Otherwise I remember it being a super fun theater movie at the time. I haven't seen it in years though so I can't say how it aged.

I last saw it a couple years ago and as far as I could tell the production values have aged beautifully. It's still a believable medieval England.

    Except for Kevin Costner, obviously.
