The D&D chat thread came into existence long ago, to serve a purpose. The subforum had somewhat strict on-topic rules, but threads would sometimes devolve into off-topic chats between posters as they learned more about each other. Not the typical derailment of threads, but mostly people just talking to each other about their lives. And so a chat thread was made to provide a space for people to chat with one another, in an environment without the atmosphere of the more contentious political threads. That is the the reason chat exists, and what we have in mind when evaluating its state.
Lately, chat has been running much hotter and at a higher acidity than we'd like. This is due to a combination of many factors. The topics of discussion, a number of grudges, an inability by some to let anything slide unaddressed, hostile/aggressive tones leading to more of the same, and yes some trolling. In a thread with no structure, this has proved to be a pain. We don't want to ban topics from discussion, the freewheeling nature of chat can produce some interesting conversations; but be mindful of the nature and scope of topic you're bringing into chat. What makes for a lively on-topic thread can not be the daily bread of chat. Speaking of on-topic threads, those are still the purview of this forum and you are free to start some new ones to talk about whatever's on your mind. If what you want to talk about in chat is the material of an on-topic thread, please make one. The purpose of chat is not to recreate all of the subforum, sans rules, in one thread. But just because you see what appears to be a discussion that could be happening in a political thread does not mean you need to activate all your debate engines. Next time you reply to the latest objectionable post you see, from that guy you don't like, ask yourself how sour and combative you are going to be. We can't have you all running at 11 at all times.
Chat, being a thread made to serve all of D&D, needs to be broadly welcoming. From its inception we've had a prohibition against meta thread commentary, but we all lapse sometimes and we're emphasizing this again. Sometimes people go to chat and talk about other threads, and there are two possible outcomes to this. Drama, as the people being talked about go to the chat thread to respond to the commentary, or no drama, as those people stay away with the understanding that the chat thread is a separate community to which they do not belong. Both are unacceptable, and so we're making it clear that meta commentary should never happen.
Drama sometimes just happens, and that's unfortunate, but sometimes it's not so gently coaxed out. If you get enjoyment out of making sure the thread goes into a tizzy about something or the other and all the attention you're getting, just remember that we're reading the thread along with everybody else. It's a selfish and destructive use of a communal space, and we advise you to not indulge in it.
An off-topic, high volume thread cannot also be a highly contentious thread. We do not have the resources to police such a thread, and we don't think it brings anything of value to this subforum.

I stand by my grievance about Youtube Geofencing though.

As a movie that was a thing separate from any comic book properties to which it might have born a passing resemblance to, I really liked it.

before that, no snow. At all. Had a green Christmas and a green new years. It like 50 degrees a few weeks ago. In NYS. In January.
I believe the North Pole was above freezing not so long ago too and keep in mind it is currently in the middle of the dark part of the year up there.
