I agree that civility is important in discussion, but I also think civility is a luxury in some ways. It is far easier for me, and those like me, to be civil because I have not spent a lifetime constantly struggling with the weight of the issue being discussed. To me it is academic; it is intellectual; it is distant enough from me to be held up and considered. I am not fighting against or suppressing emotional responses in order to meet the standards of civility; I am not concerned about losing my temper or saying the wrong thing and having my arguments dismissed as irrational or overblown because of it. These things are draining and exhausting and create a self-perpetuating narrative about angry minorities.
That said, civil discussion is more likely to be productive as discussion, as it leaves people more open to persuasion. Uncivil argument may have a place but it's not really about discussion at that point, I think. It's about forcefully creating an impression or inserting an idea into the dialogue. Sometimes this seems necessary.

I believe you will find that unless you order off of the dollar menu at wendy's(which is the only thing you should be doing but at that point the food is no longer even remotely comparable) that for the same filling factor of food you aren't actually saving any money at wendy's. MAYBE $1.
