paper saying he's better as a cabinet secretary for clinton than president. Citing himself as a candidate who can pull both sides together and heal the nation's partisan politics and move the country forward. Will see Rising Wages with him, Need new Leadership to breka through the gridlock
Honored to offer his candidacy bwtween Clinton and Sanders, happy that they can speak to the goodness of America than the horror and fear of the GOP primary going after.
1999: Baltimore was most violent, addicted, abandoned city. Claims he was the only one who could step up and turn the city around. Cites that 300 black men were dying a year in the city, that Black Lives Matter. Says there's things they got right, lives saved and they closed down "open air drug markets"
Greatly increased drug treatment, saved lives from overdose deaths. Tracking discourtesy and excessive force among police. Restored voting rights to 52,000 voters. Banned the box on state employment (applause), missed thing boefre that, says he was able to bring people together. Repealed the death penalty ["First State south of the mason-dixon line" to do so]
Improve ACA by covering early, out of pocket expenses. Premiums level off but out of pocket and deductibles are higher. Push insurance to offer products that cover out of pocket more (I think?)
Change what we pay for; Maryland moved accute care hospitals out of fee-for service to [missed it] for medicare and medicaid patients.
I submitted an entry to Lego Ideas, and if 10,000 people support me, it'll be turned into an actual Lego set!If you'd like to see and support my submission, follow this link.
23 years old, cares about many issues. What issue does he think should be most important to young voters and why?
Debt Free college, cites he's the only candidate with 15 years of executive experience, touts his college cost bonafides, but says biggest issue should be climate change. Will push us to a clean energy electic grid by 2050, cites Iowa as being a sterling example of the issue. plus we build the tech here.
Stil talks about how wonderful his fellow candidates are but cites a generational perspective? Says all of the above didn't work for the moon program, won't work for CLimate so we have to tackle as engineering challenge.
Next voter asking about Combat Vets with PTSD and what it means about bringing back the draft? As well as ability to serve for a few years then go to college.
One of goals is cut youth unemployment in half in next three years; proposing civic service for youth in addition to the existing option of military. Increased pell grant benefit. Taps into the "goodness of that next generation"
calls for full employment of Iraq and Afghanistan vets. We do a poor job of transitioning them back to civilian life. No hand off between DoD and VA, let alone in the states.
Vets become "Ghost People" because of lack of keeping up with them. Need a transition program so they don't slip through the cracks and suffer from the mental health affects of war. Missed the end, sounded baically like supporting vets at home and abroad
Next Question: Specific plans for growing the economy so thos who have fallen outof the workforce can get back in?
O: Obama saved us from a second Great Depression, greed of wall street. But wages haven't improved; 70% of us earning same or less than 12 years back. Need to remember economy isn't money but people; common sense wage and labor policy that raises wage; minimum wage, equal pay and overtime page. Support for labor unions and ease of joining.
Asking to bring people out of "shadow economy" by passing "comprehensive labor reform."
Cites his "Agenda for America's Cities," the call for improving infrastructure. And training people for new energy future.
Sensible rebalancing of concentration of corporate power. Not just wall street and banks, but also other areas of corporate concentration like what seeing in Iowa with fewer packing places, missed the other
Question: LGBT Equality doesn't end with marriage, but employment and housing are still risk factors for discrimination. What would O'Malley do to protect the community?
O: Broader arc is to move towards progress. In Maryland passed marriage equality at the ballot, passed trans anti-discrimination act too. The common ground was about the children of the community, but they made the argument every child's home has dignity and deserves to be protected under the law. That's what's motivated him and he'll do all in his power to move the nation forward and become more inclusive, because that's what makes us stronger as a nation.
Farmer question: average farmer is 57 years old, includes grwoing number of vets, women, etc. Lots retiring and there aren't enough to replace them. What can we do, what can he do to provide opportunities for investments in family farms vs the current status quo of corporate farms and people leaving the rural areas
will do more to reduce the barriers of entry for new farmers: Land and equipment costs. Seen movement in Maryland towards buy local and we need to do more as a nation to (culturally?) push new generations towards farming and push against domination/monopoly of corporate farming
Catching up on this (had to watch Xfiles starting at 915 when my wife got home). Is OMalleys portion worth watching?
I've had it muted while doing something else...
its interesting.
Not selling me on him as president but I'd want him in the cabinet or move into Congress or Senate.
EDIT: Seems like he approaches things from a point of focusing on problem and getting it solved. Would be nice to see him work on that but again, not really selling it as a presidential candidate. Feels like he might be good in an advisory or advocacy role though.
Watching the Planned Parenthood response... Not very convincing to be honest, he misspoke but not really. Should just be running away from it.
Calling out sexism explicitly is good and something he often doesn't do. But then linking the minimum wage is kinda a step back. And then social security - not really a woman's issue either. There's always an underlying assumptions that it's all class based
Next Question, O'Malley supporter, final 30 seconds: National Polls show him trailing Clinton and Sanders. To those who are undecided or uninformed, what's the last thing you'd tell them to convince them you're the best candidate for the democratic party?
O: Iowa has found a way to sort through the noise and sort through the polls to find the next leader of the nation. Cites Obama being "lifted up" by Iowa. Only one of the three of the canddiates of not being a divider but unifier, raising the living wage and lowering college costs and healing cultural wounds. We're a compassionate people and we're better that the "fascist rhetoric of Donald Trump." Our emblem isn't wire fences but the statue of liberty. Iowa can change the course of the race on Caucus night, and there's nothing so divided in our politics that it can't be healed by faith in one another. He's in their hands and asks them to do as they will, but to lift up America's next leader to make it the compassionate place it can be.

Don't have the time at the moment to search it out, but I remember an article or two talking about the minimum wage raise issue discussing that a large contingent, maybe largest, of Minimum Wage workers are women. So issue does have a gender-component that doesn't frequently get addressed; was happy to hear him discuss that, first time I think a candidate has?
Was it surprising to hear Obama express regrets about some things from 2008 campaign?
C: It was. Liked Obama's "Linda Rogers" comment. Understands that when you get into the arena you get pummeled with criticism but wouldn't do this if she didn't think it was important to move forward on our progress. Worry about GOP ripping it away, need to push ahead.
Clinton: It's a great country despite what [Trump] says; Dem side is having spirited debate on the issues we care about, enjoyed watching the others tonight. A campaign on the differences on the issues. GOP is just running on insults. It's a tough campaign but it needs to be because President of USA is hardest job in the world. On Monday Iowans get to be the first to express their opinion to go against the GOP

Spit out your gum, question dude. Question: Young people seem to have enthusiasm for Bernie, but not for you. Why do you think that is, and how will you fix it?

Hillary's answer is essentially "They've been attacking me for decades, and people new to politics might not realize it.
Behind but Sanders gun liability answer...that's an issue for courts to decide if it should be case to case. Eliminating them from liability entirely takes it out of their hands

First question is his mayorship of Baltimore and his poor record for combating structural racism.

Issue about spending as much on healthcare per month as their mortgage, how can O'Malley help?
Change what we pay for; Maryland moved accute care hospitals out of fee-for service to [missed it] for medicare and medicaid patients.
Go ahead.

@Deebaser I could use the break from summaries :P
We need wage policies to make wages go up.

Also can't seem to stop typing in summary mode.
