I like the way that "it was all a smokescreen!" lets the show get a big do-over. You don't need to remember all the twists and turns from the first nine seasons, and if something is contradictory you can just write it off as misdirection. It's a kind of clean way to do it.
Anyway, second episode was much better, and the third looks like it'll be fun.

Scully found out that girl was her daughter right? Thats what I assumed she was implying when she said she ran both of their DNA. She'd be the right age too. Maybe I just misheard.

I think it was meant to imply that whatever weird thing Scully found in the girl's DNA was also in Scully's DNA because she (Scully) was also abducted and victim of alien/government experiments.
I think the original conspiracy kinda holds up, which is surprising. In that era and with a lot of shows like this when you take a step back it doesn't work.
The second phase conspiracy when there were eyeless dudes doesn't nearly as well. I kinda hope they don't try to recon away the original conspiracy (too much won't make sense) in order to justify this third phase and there's simply new power brokers trying to pick up the pieces of the Syndicate after they all (or almost all) got iced.

I hope it's the later. I'm already confused as it is.

Seems like they're opening an awfully big can of worms for a six-episode season.

The two shows have always been very stylistically linked. Remember Darren McGavin played the founder of the X-Files in an episode, and originally the script had him outright reprising his role as Kolchak.
Huh, I had no idea. It's kind of surprising to me they would use a old script from another show as part of their big comeback miniseries, but I loved it so who knows. Gonna have to watch Kolchak I guess.
That was fucking amazing! I had my doubts about this mini-series after the first two episodes, but this one was great! I rank it with Jose Chung's From Outer Space for best comedy episode. The pacing was excellent! The Mulder/Scully dynamic was dead-on. Scully was no longer acting like a pale shadow of who she once was. The ending was beautiful! In my head, I call it "How Mulder Got His Groove Back". The references to past material were sweet.
IT WAS FUN! I HAD FUN! MY WIFE AND I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING!
That was just completely delightful. Every other episode could suck, and it'd be worth it for this one. Just so gloriously self aware.

After the first three or four seasons of the X-Files, it's the witty meta episodes that I enjoyed best. I'm not particularly interested in the rest of this mini-season, but the were-monster one is the one I'm excited for.

Poor Mulder. Scullys fantasy was more "real" but that abduction scene man. A good episode overall.
Mulder and Scully meet the Were-thing
The wasted idiots came back! And they've actually moved on to even stupider ways to get high. Love it. A disillusioned Mulder being pissed that all his x-files are being explained and going into a case skeptical is a great way to start an episode. Pretty great all around. That crack joke had no right to be so funny. Kudos to the actress for that delivery. That twist was amazing

I watched most of the first episode and this reboot takes me way back and is everything I could ask for, picking up right where they left off. The format and feeling are there from the original, giving fans like me exactly what they want.
Big ups for the Kim Manners honoring (Mulder put flowers on his grave, if only to hide who he was, but still nice gesture). Comedic timing and call backs was great, the dog thing, Scully's immortality, I'm with Jefe if nothing else this one episode justifies the 6.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
And for the triple sadly Jezebel complained about the trans character because how dare the xfiles not have old porn loving mulder not give a perfect explanation of trans people to the were lizard. I swear to god that site earns its overreacting reputation at times.

Yeah, I can't believe someone could be offended by the portrayal of a transwoman as a crack addicted prostitute working a truck stop. Wait no, of course I can.
Just like how I rolled my eyes in annoyance that the gay guy in last weeks episode was also apparently a prostitute that couldn't wait to give Mulder a blowjob in the bathroom of a bar.

Dude wasn't a prostitute? He was a closeted business professional from India where I believe being gay is not welcome? He thought Mulder like he was down for anonymous gay sex because they were still hiding who they really were?
And I forgot you can't ever show a trans person not exactly great? The joke on the show was another person saw the creature but was also on drugs thus causing doubts to the validity of what she witnessed. I don't think being trans was the joke at all and not one the show was making.

Hey even if he wasn't, that's not exactly better. Both of those characters are tired stereotypes.
Stereotypes come from somewhere? I didn't think the show was insulting either person in their representation, just that they were people who existed.
Wow well that is certainly a response. It highlights why it is a bad portrayal. Most trans people are not in fact crack addicted prostitutes. The stereotype appears to exist mostly on television and in films. There is a lot more to dissect over the trans persons portrayal but the short of it is Jezebel has a point on this one as it was overall pretty insulting. I understand where you might not see it that way, so I am asking you to take the word of the people it was insulting even if it didn't mean to.
I like the new season, but its a completely different feel from the original series (well compared to the first 7 seasons of the show).
There episodes make me think the show is just too self aware at this point to go past these 6 episodes. Its a great way to see the characters grow and fun, but I feel like this is an excellent swan song, not a reboot of the series.
Nah the reboot comes after this season where they dump both Anderson and Duchovny and do a full reboot with a new unconnected cast /24 NEVAR FORGET!
I did like how they made fun of the were bullshit of "now I suddenly have all the abilities of the creature that bit me for some weird reason." Also sexy Scully!

Yeah, the trans parts were...not so great. The rest of the episode was a fantastic one off comedy episode, those parts just felt tired and unnecessary.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
I admit to being a bit uninformed on transgender issues, but I thought that Mulder's entirely reasonable and detailed explanation to Guy was on the money, especially coupled with a metaphor for Guy's condition (and Guy's desperate turn to "trying" transgenderism to solve his identity crisis).
Also, fantasy nymphomaniac Scully is a hilarious Scully.

Mulder was on point. It was the rest of the epsidoe that was problematic. If we take out the profession (I get where drug use had to be a factor) and some of the lizard conversation and it would be great. I think that's what really draws the reaction the most. It came sooooo close but ended up soooooo bad due to changeable aspects.

I admit that I was a little put off by the trans prostitute, but she totally sold the delivery on her last line (however obviously problematic), and I thought that the introduction of the trans concept helped the plot. Guy latching onto the idea made sense; he was very much living a lie, trapped in skin that wasn't his.
I almost wonder if we are supposed to believe the guy thing on its face. The only people to actually see him were on various substances (the huffers, crack, and the motel owner was drinking rubbing alcohol) or Mulder, and his conversation with Mulder was so much more about Mulder and his expecations than any werecreature. And the creature called him Fox without Mulder ever seemingly telling him his name. And at the end Mulder just happened to find the guy without issue? Seems a little too easy and again helped to energize Mulder's flagging beliefs to the extent you wonder if he just had a bit of a spirit journey himself.
Scully only saw a guy in the cell phone store and that could have been a real person that was having a psychotic break that happened to be in the same area as Mulder and Scully.
Unrelated note, both characters got sexualized because we had Banana Hammock Mulder.

As much as I hated it I still laughed when she said it. Perfect delivery. A little less "she hit like a man" and a bit less focusing on the surgery as well as drop the prostitution angle.

Yup. Plus he was in Jermaine Clement's movie "What We Do in the Shadows", where he played a werewolf (not a swearwolf).
Mulder "So you believe me?"
Scully "NO. You're batcrap crazy."
