Bunch of people on reddit were whining that the art for Liadrin looks ugly, but I don't know what they're on. She looks pretty rad, would definitely use her if the WoW promotion is something I don't have to pay for.
wait, are post-match friend requests always just people wanting to flame me?
i wondered why i was getting them
When i've been added by randos, and only once or twice was i yelled at and then unfriended. Other times they wanted someone to watch, or tips on how to make a better deck. Which entertained me, as my decks are usually hot garbage.

Dear Me,
If you could stop sucking for about 30 minutes and get past Rank 16, that would be great.

The face looks kind of weird to me but I never played wow so idk.
i finally got the angry chicken to enrage! hahahahaha. got that weird blobby looking guy who gives 2/2 to 1 attack minions from a jeweled scarab and had the chicken from a dead webspinner.
got consecrated and had an 8/1 chicken. YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS! finished him off with it. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I let the request sit for a few days, and then accept it, long after they've forgotten who the fuck I am.

Russian patch notes claimed that you only had to get to level 20 in WoW to unlock Liadrin - which is as high as their Free to Play version goes. So this might be pretty easy for just about anyone to get. That particular note has since been deleted though...
I have a level 30 dwarf hunter sitting around somewhere from before they released the first expansion. Not a chance in hell of me ever finding that account though. Hopefully they let me pay $10. I'd consider it, mostly so I can emote "You will pay for that, cur!"

It doesn't take that long to get to level 20 on the trial account. I'd honestly just suggest doing it for the Draenei starting zone, it works pretty well as a short single-player RPG and has some really pretty scenery.
Also, we've gotten confirmation that this Liadrin thing won't require ANY payment of any kind. Liadrin CAN be obtained with the WoW Starter Edition (which is entirely free to play, only goes up to level 20).
There's no need to put any money into unlocking Lady Liadrin.
More details will be available in upcoming blogs on the official Hearthstone and World of Warcraft sites.
Edit: It will need to be done on the same Battle.net account that your Hearthstone account is on, though. World of Warcraft Starter Edition is free, so that should help even if your existing accounts are separate.
So I'm theorizing that the promotion is simply, level a Paladin up to 20 or maybe even just have one already on your account. I stopped playing in Mists of Pandaria and I had a max level Paladin at the time. So if that IS the case, I could potentially get it without putting any work in? Or maybe you'd have to level a new one from scratch, but that wouldn't be so bad.

the draenei are known for their paladinship so even if that is a restriction my suggestion still stands

Thank you for that tempting advice. Of course, my brain immediately says to me, "Uhh, you've got Fallout 4, Witcher 3, and DA:I on your backlog." I guess that's what makes a *short* RPG a good idea.
I'm still bummed I never explored most of LotRO. That was a pretty world. Rivendell and the Shire were just beautifully done imo.
I have two Battlenet accounts, one with WoW + SC2 and one with HS + HotS. Is it likely I could finagle support into merging accounts (I have all the CD keys, emails, etc for both).

I've never tried this, but probably? Blizzard support has been excellent every time I've needed help.
It decided to cough up two consecutive Bashes for me the other day.
I crafted two ages ago when I decided that what I had and my personality were going to lean warrior and druid anyway.
I opened 20 GvG packs the other day, and two or three of them gave me two of the same common in one pack (including the aforementioned armory worth of Darkbombs).
Yeah, I'm of the opinion that just about no card should have blank text unless it's base statline (Chillwind Yeti, Boulderfist), and that tribal synergy shouldn't impact a card's body.
Just tweak a handful of basic cards every season, change em right back if they're too crazy. Blizz leverage HS's digital nature in some neat ways with card effects, but are incredibly resistant to taking advantage of that aspect of it.
Blizzard has explained their vision in that respect already. While they love to make gameplay elements that leverage the game's digital nature (Discover, summon a random 2 drop, etc.), they want Hearthstone to feel like a real physical card game that people actually play. If you quit Magic for a while and come back you still have the same cards that work the same way when you come back, and they want Hearthstone to feel just like that too.
And by "work the same way when you come back," they mean "still be shitty unplayed cards when you come back."
Damn, looks like MasSan was banned from Twitch. What an end to a slow, hard fall from grace.
It's a good thing I still have my WoW account active(hooray for sub tokens for gold), I'm probably going to be pretty set for whatever promotion needs to happen.
Unless it's another stupid refer-a-friend promotion, in which case hell with it.

There a tl;dr on what he basically was accused of doing? I get that bots were involved, but it all ends up sounding way more nefarious than normal "view-boosting" stuff.

The viewbotting accusations were one thing, but I think what actually caused the ban was probably all of the CS:GO betting he was doing on stream, and was giving out skins/CS:GO betting points to subs/re-subs. It could be seen as trading CS:GO currency and skins for subscriptions.

Sure, but only 30 cards go in a deck no matter how good the cards are, so that doesn't really change things. Buff a card and you turn another card into a shitty unplayed card. Buff a card in a way that creates a new deck archetype and you push one of the current decks out of the meta. "The top" is only so big.

i really kind of enjoy the warcraft lore. I spent maaaaybe an hour or so re-reading everything that happened in Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne.
but as far as world of warcraft goes that particular bug never bit me in the right spot. I think I leveled someone to like 30 or something and quit.
I think after 30 with every MMORPG I ever played, the time investment just naturally starts to hit this scale where it's "WoW, other computer games, real life. Choose two." I've got like 10 level 30 characters scattered around various MMORPGS
Reminds me of this dude I roomed with for a bit. He gamed more than me. And it was all Starcraft 2. I guess I just dabble in games.
Yeah I have no intentions of resubbing at all (been there done that quit forever and ever), so I figured I'll just do the Starter Edition thing.
I was curious how exactly it would work given that I already have an account? But apparently it's super easy, you just go to battlenet, click the "Add Starter Edition" button, then select Starter Edition from the Region/Account dropdown list in the battlenet launcher itself.
It was really fucking easy.

And that was before hobgoblin came out!

tl;dr Level a new character to 20 (doesn't require a sub) or have leveled one after March 11th to get Liadrin.

Doesn't work retroactively. You've got to earn level 20 after the 11th of March (Friday last week)
