What benefit is there to dumping energy into a town, anyway? I know for nodes you can put workers on, it increases their possible yield/rare mats and stuff. But what about towns?
Hey @Kai_San, didn't see your post until now. Did someone pick you up?

for some reason when i logged in tonight, suddenly all the audio in the tutorial videos as well as the into cut scene are all choppy. anyone come across this?
So far on my Valk everything basically dies in a few hits, so there hasn't been much to combat at all. When does that change? I just hit 15 and am running to that Velia town as I type this.
I'm up to 29 on a valk and it has never changed from trivial combat.

Had a spot of PvP last night with Hornswoggle.
We were hunting Manshas in the forest west of Calpheon when I notice a random Warrior dude lingering near us and not actually killing anything.
What happened next I'm not super sure on.
I saw his name go red (meaning he is a murdering asshole) and my pet (I'm a Tamer) started going apeshit on him. Not sure if he attacked my pet first or if my pet struck first because he was red. If he attacked my pet first then that was a pretty rookie mistake.
Either way once the fighting started all hell broke loose. We killed him then suddenly there were people everywhere fighting. I died shortly after the chaos began.
Hornswoggle got 2 more of em (as a Wizard) before he was brought down. The people (like 5-6 of them) continued fighting each other. Glorious madness!

So I wanted to try a new char, and I went through creation to make a witch that I think is really awesome looking. Except when I get in game, it reverts back to all the "base" looks for a witch except the hair style (but not hair settings, color and other stuff are the base too).
I dunno what is causing it, but I hope its not a permanent bug. She looks fine on the selection screen, so I figure it will go away eventually.

Change channels should fix the problem. It is a common bug when making a new character.
After it is fixed it shouldn't be an issue again.

Yeah dear god witch is so much more fun. This isn't even comparable.
I dunno why they are listed as immobile and helpless all over. I feel more tactical in melee than the Valk did, with awesome ranged options.
Apparently holding forward while using the staff is a different attack, that seems to hit 3 times per swing so it regens 3 times the mana. Likely pointless later when I have drain, but right now its pretty sweet to just do that twice, forward dash behind something and whip out a dagger to backstab something for massive damage. Yet, I can also just throw fireballs. And hold down chain lightning and things die without me needing to see them (which is awesome in this starter zone where animals are like hidden in the grass all the time).
Also I can apparently animation cancel the magic missile attack? Like just stepping sideways while holding down RMB and it shoots another one. If the missile didn't reach the monster it just starts it over, but if its close enough its like a super fast shooting attack. Which is kind of pointless because the damage sucks, but its neat.

The damage scales up pretty well with rank and crit -- it's been my primary single target DPS ability. Sure it can't match the raw damage output of some of the big bursty moves, but it fills the gaps between them pretty nicely, keeps you mobile, and drains almost no mana.

Yeah I dunno what wizard you guys are playing, but mine feels made out of glass. Haven't died yet, but I chug HP potions and hit healing aura constantly.
@Echo crafting in this game covers a pretty wide range of activities, do you have a specific focus to narrow it down? Like: farming, gathering, processing, cooking, alchemy, or the actual production of furniture/tools/weapons/armor? The weird thing in this game is that your NPC workers will be the ones to actually do all of that last category while the player mostly is in charge of acquiring the materials.

What level are you? I've actually found Wizard to be fairly survivable even with almost no Defense (unless I get ganked while typing :P) My usual strategy is to kite a bunch of stuff to gather it up and then advance cast either the frost nova and / or residual lightning so that they finish casting as mobs catch up to me. Both moves will lock down almost everything around you and / or murder them, preventing you from taking much damage. For bosses, stragglers, and single targets I make liberal use of strafing and Magic Arrow to just dodge their stuff indefinitely.

That is one thing I noticed and enjoy about BDO is that even among the same class you can see a surprising amount of variation based of player preference.
While there are build guides out there that are perfectly good, for the most part whatever works for you just, well, works.

14 I think? Trying to gather up a group and AOE is pretty much out of the question. Nothing I have kills fast enough to survive more than 2 or 3 mobs attacking me. I was trying it last night on some pink level imps and using chain lightning and just BARELY surviving a group of 3 using potions and heal. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Yah, animation canceling is the way to go to maximize your damage output.
A LOT of the attack abilities are "press and hold for multiple hits". And the really cool part is that if you let Ability A perform the first two attacks, and then switch to Ability B, it picks up the chain immediately... still at swing #3! Even better, sometimes you'll get a "free" attack in there which advances the chain without a keypress. So (using the Valkyrie as an example because I know these combos), if you were to do a S+F followed immediately by a S+RMB you do the first attack of Celestial Spear (unblockable knockdown), a "free" second swing swing of Skyward Sword (an "air" attack that knocks the opponent onto their back if they somehow didn't were immune to the knockdown), and then the third hit of Sword of Judgment (another knockdown that deals three to four times as much damage as a "normal" swing). And then hold down the RMB to do the Sword of Judgement 3-hit combo AGAIN for extra damage. It's basically an insta-kill for pretty much anything.
Overall, by mixing up the different "press and hold" abilities with other chains and by animation canceling, you can create your own combos that hit like a truck, loaded with napalm, on fire. Some are a one- or two-shot unstoppable kill, on a 7 to 10 second cooldown.
Once you stop playing it like a tab-targetted MMO, it ends up feeling more like a fighting game.

Fireball one shot imps that were considered higher level than me. I hadn't even bothered to open up that weapon box you get from the quest because I never needed it.
Chain lightning would sometimes just flat out not damage certain imps though, the soldiers I think? Since there is zero feedback about combat, I cannot tell if it is missing because of accuracy, or I am aiming wrong, or whatever. But typically the chain lightning would find things and kill them as I hold it. Maybe you weren't holding it down? You need to hold shift and right click for 4 hits. You can keep holding it after that but it will start a new cast.
If you shoot the magic missiles, yeah things won't die and might actually come at you. But you can dash through them to avoid attacks if you time it. Just wait for their arms to raise and double tap W. If you have a bunch of them on top of each other, you can do a quick 180 and the F skill actually hits multiple guys too. From behind and off CD it WILL outright kill them all. Even while on CD, a back hit one shot most of them.
So I found tight packs and fireball them, chain lightning when I can't see if they are together or not, and dagger anything that approaches me. When mana was low, I held W and lmb for two hits (there seems to be a huge lag after the second forward lmb staff hit) then dash through them and keep staffing or just dagger if I don't feel like dodging again.
Only time I took serious damage was while spamming forward lmb and not moving. Then yeah, low hp and no defense (had no armor drops yet) had me losing life hard. But there was zero reason for me to be doing that. I think just spamming fireballs I wouldn't run out of mana before I leveled and got full recovery.
Also noticed I could let fireball charge until the CD was done, shoot, and immediately start another. I could double fireball things, but there was almost never a target after the first to hit.
As for animation canceling, I am used to that from B&S. It was obviously the way to go on the Valk, but I found it odd I was actually kind of breaking the missile attack. I don't think just strafing slightly should count as an animation cancel. Especially because if I cut it off too fast it stops a missile in mid air to shoot another before damage even occured. If it is intentional, it sure is odd behavior. Even if unintentional it is not gamebreaking, just an alright way to do moderate damage with no cast time.

That usually means that your accuracy is too low. The game never tells you when you miss, you just do no damage. The "hit" animation still plays, and it LOOKS like you are hitting, but it's actually a miss.

Right now my favourite early combo is Fireball + lightning strike. Fireball knocks down enemies, and lightning strike zaps em and I think does bonus damage since they're on a downed opponent. Either way, this combo kills pretty much everything around my level in one go, and is cheap on mana.
Dunno if it's been posted yet but the new cash shop cosmetics are up
Still pretty disappointed to be honest. Ignoring the fact that roughly 30 bucks is crazy for a cosmetic, I want some freakin armor for my valk and sorc. Not these night gowns and feathers.
Tamer looks cool with the set too, but I'd probably be more tempted by the yukata.
Shame blader isn't out so I could consider how it'd look in some of those.

Ooh Daum had a bit of a press conference in Korea and they gave an outline of the immediate release schedule for the NA/EU version of BDO.
Blader/Plum arriving in April.
Two more classes to be released in May (Axen's note: which would be Ninja/Kunoichi).
Valencia and Awakening update to be released in June.

Ooh snap! The Worker Exchange system came with this update too!
At the worker NPC guys you can sell your workers or buy other player's workers.
I'll let you deal with the moral implications.
Edit- it also looks like no +15 enhancements yet. Community was apparently pretty vocal about holding off on that one.
Edit 2- The new craftable ghillie suit countermeasure is called Marking Something. It will show the name/guild/minimap position of someone in a ghillie suit for 5 minutes. That is cool by me.
I plan on getting a bunch of em and just always fire one at every player I see in a ghillie. Cause while I don't personally think the ghillie is a PvP game changer, I do think everyone wearing one is ridiculous and deserve our ridicule.

Still pretty disappointed to be honest. Ignoring the fact that roughly 30 bucks is crazy for a cosmetic, I want some freakin armor for my valk and sorc. Not these night gowns and feathers.
Bleh
Tamer looks cool with the set too, but I'd probably be more tempted by the yukata.
Shame blader isn't out so I could consider how it'd look in some of those.
Blader/Plum arriving in April.
Two more classes to be released in May (Axen's note: which would be Ninja/Kunoichi).
Valencia and Awakening update to be released in June.
Reddit post listing all classes with all costumes might be right up your alley.
I really, really need that Egg Chandalier...
Man I need that Wizard Chef outfit :P Or the pumpkin one.
