4th edition was the first edition i played, and i liked it except for the dm sucked and had no imagination and also refused to let me seduce people, just outright said it wasnt allowed. and that includes sweet talking a shop keeper to try and get better prices.
That's because the DM is the one who would have to be pretending to be getting seduced as the NPC and seriously just fucking no.
A good DM would know the basic rule: roll for success... and fade to black. Not everything has to be played out in excruciating detail, nor should it be.
Totally late to the ball on this one but in my sessions as a DM this is exactly the kind of thing I'd make the player RP in excruciating detail.
Yeahhh.... no. In 30+ years of DMing, I can probably count on one hand the number of players who would do this reasonably well, while the rest would just embarrass themselves and make everyone uncomfortable. And it's not fair anyway: you can play a super slick and charismatic or sexy/seductive or whatever character, for instance, without being charismatic yourself and your character's chances of success shouldn't depend on your ability to role-play those things.
So Talos Principle. Can you beat all the areas the first time you go there? Or do you have to come back to some? I have a red brick in world 3 that I can't see any way to beat yet. I don't want the solution, just should I move on to 4 for a while.
You unlock tools as you go along. If you have all the tools required, (which, iirc, the game will pop up icons for the tools needed) you can beat the challenge.
I'm getting no in game pop ups, so I think no? I did unlock one thing, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to use it. I think it is a collector? was the first puzzle in the first main room.

Depends on the group and particularly the player. A few people I played with could have good fun with this sort of thing. And sometimes it's fun and effective to make the players squirm and laugh a bit while something else is cooking up in the background.
edit: Stuff like this is pretty much why I can't get into any kind of D&D on the PC. It was always such a personal game to each group that played it.

Nah, my philosophy has always been to crank out the 50 Shades of Colorspray at that point.
It's time to see what the Barkeep does in his dungeon and by dungeon, I mean midnight cavorting with demonic fertility cultists in the forest. Why yes, that is a tree with a giant vagina shaped mouth and innumerable tentacles, welcome to the cult, here's your robe, wand and wizard hat.
That's in the game Bound by Flame. Srsly.
And just like that, Bound by Flame makes its way back on to my wishlist.

Hello Steam thread, it's been a while.

When you first enter a puzzle area, it should pop up the title of the puzzle and have some icons below it. I THINK they have a X over them if you don't yet have them, but you an also compare them to your UI which should show what tools you have unlocked.
Tools are provided per challenge, so if you need one (or more), they'll be in the puzzle area.

Well weekend deal was a swing (woo free COD Blops 3!) and a miss (err, no private games? yeah, no) so what could have been an otherwise easy FNG pick is back to being fair game. Well Ed gave me another option:

Biggest Flame in the Flood tip ever: The stuff you give to your dog will carry over to your next game, the next time you die. I can think of several things that I'm going to give that mutt as soon as I can:
The glass jar you start with, and any tools I can craft, like the knife or hammer. Even just making sure he carries the jar means that I can potentially have MANY jars to start a game.
Whoa, that game looks pretty. Is there much substance to it?
I've only played an hour, but I think so, yes. I'm not sure if the islands themselves are procedurally generated, or if there are a just a lot of them. I know the loot on them is random, because I've seen corn on the starting island, and I have NOT seen corn on the starting island. Which islands you see going down the river (and in what order) seem to change game per game. There's an Easy/Hard Campaign mode that has a defined end, and there's an Endless mode where you just see how far you can get before you die.
I'll get some pretty pictures to share tonight, too.

Even if the islands aren't procedurally generated, you can't get to them all as you go down the river, and some will have an animal that you immediately have to run from, so you are very likely to visit a combination of different islands every time you play.

Always wanted to play a table top RPG and role play as the most average character I could think of and see how far I could get with them.
Steve Frodar, ex employee of potion emporium, bum knee and recently divorced. Level 4 stamp collector.
I swear I once read about someone trying a D&D character that had all 9s for stats in a game. It didn't end well.
My issue is that people assume they're all average; using all 9s would represent that. But for example, the ex-potion employee that collects stamps would almost certainly have a slightly higher than average dexterity to hand delicate stamps and potion ingredients, as well as a slightly higher than normal intelligence or wisdom to inform their hand-eye coordination and ability to collate the data of what stamp is what, and which ingredient goes in what potion.
Even people who assume they are average have skills that they think are average, but that others don't have, and could never have, and are totally higher than average.
I guess my point is that most of the time when we think our stats are all 9s, we almost certainly have at least a few 10s to 12s in there somewhere, but we just can't see it.
And now I want to see the average Steve Frodar save the kingdom with his skills from potion making and stamp collecting, while complaining about his bum knee and Doris.

You guys can stay out of the water, more space for me to swim.
And more fish sperm that you can drink instead of me.
It coats your body too, like you're literally getting coated in fish sperm and it's like touching all of your cells and stuff. Not to mention it's an alien planet so it probably has parasitical alien fish sperm that can get in through any open cut and make you preggers with an alien fish baby.
Edit: Wait, I might have a suggestion for the developer...
Subnautica: R'lyeh, I take it?
Actually I was thinking of a wonderful JRPG, which I forget the name of, where whenever you drink water you tend to get infected with alien parasites. Curiously that game has a persistent kind of world, so once you explode once from alien parasites they can infect towns and exterminate them. Nothing left but alien parasites.
I don't drink the water and with good reason.
Elona, a free Roguelike made by one Japanese dude that has been translated to English.
Before Dungeons of Dredmor, I think it was the most accessible roguelike out there. It had some JRPG sensibilities mixed into the rogue elements. Things like being able to collect statues and trading cards of a monster or npc you killed to put them in a museum you opened that would generate income over time. Or starting a slime ranch to harvest their corpses for the charisma boost. Or throwing what were basically pokeballs at weakened enemies to capture them and use them as followers.
It had a persistent overworld map with multiple towns in addition to some fixed story-line dungeons plus randomly generated dungeons and whatever buildings you set up.
It also did not have permadeath. There was a death penalty of dropping some of your coins and maybe some items on death that you could pick up when you got back to where you died but it was never a full on game over. While this made it more forgiving, it didn't necessarily make it easier as the game felt fine throwing all sorts of ways to get you killed.
There are the aforementioned alien parasites that can infect people drinking from wells as mentioned and even if you avoid doing so your followers often would still attempt to. Thankfully you could give them a bottle of acid they could drink to cure themselves but sometimes a townsperson would do so too from too far across the map to reach in time before a full blown alien popped out.
There were potentially fatal falls if you used dungeon stairs while carrying too much over your encumbrance limits.
There were high level NPCs in towns and parties that would throw lethal rocks at you if you attempted to play a musical instrument without enough skill to satisfy them.
There are a lot more indie titles around now and more easy to get into roguelikes, but Elona still remains something special.
Lets not forget setting the fire giant free in the winter town and using his rampage to collect cards and statues of innocent townfolk for your museum.
I'm pretty sure 9 isn't average anyway, but 10-11 is, given that 10.5 is the average roll on a straight 3d6 stat. All 9s would be a pretty sad person... (I'm looking at you, Bob!)

As a DM, making your players do this is a lot of fun, depending on the group. @Thekooleagle rolled badly and I think got an STD from a bar lady he tried to seduce. He immediately regretted this.
Most of the time "I want to seduce the barkeep"
"Okay roll a charisma check. Cool it succeeded, they seem very enamored with you."
works well. Hell throw a "What line do you use to seduce the barkeep?" if you want and that adds more flavor without making things too weird.
Its probably more appropriate that I gave her about 7 STDs based on that character. RIP Handsome Dave. You were loved before your soul was ripped from your body and sent to Dys in a transdimensional pig..

I'm not entirely sure how 9 got considered "average" but at least some editions didn't seem to use the 3d6 roll as the baseline for npc stats. 3d6 was supposed to yield better than average characters compared to the general even on less than great rolls because player characters were supposed to be above the norm. That said, some versions made players better than normal in other ways.
Well, I've been playing D&D since 1979 and 9 was never average for any group I played with. YMMV.
Getting the "Better than average" heroes was accomplished in 1st edition with the 4d6-and-toss-the-lowest method. Then there was point-buy. Etc. Straight 3d6 was for generic folk and resulted in 10-11 average scores.
Looking at the wolfeinstein train footage, I realized that I have not played in some time, a game that was accurate enough for me in portraying how it was to ride on a train.
Well, I've been playing D&D since 1979 and 9 was never average for any group I played with. YMMV.
In point buy systems I'm pretty sure 9 is actually the lowest a stat can go without a racial penalty so it's really not meant to be average for players. But for NPCs that are supposed to be less capable than adventuring characters it could well be average.
KalnaurI See Rain . . .Centralia, WARegistered Userregular
At least in 4th, 10 was as low as you could get in a stat without incurring penalties (10-11 got you nothing), and point buy in that started you with an 8 and five 10s, and 22 points with the more points you put in, the higher amount it took. Generally, anything with a cumulative of less than +4 before racial bonuses got added to the mix was seen as sub-par.
I can't remember how that played out in Neverwinter, which if I remember right was the only game other than a mediocre Facebook game that was based on 4th ed, a system so ready for a Disgaea/Final Fantasy Tactics-type game it was frustrating.

8 is where each stat starts at, then you buy up what you want with whatever points or whatever is explained.
As for averages for dice, 3.5 is the average D6 roll. So 3d6 becomes 10.5 average.
So I finally got around to playing MASSIVE CHALICE after owning it for god knows how long. Truly unacceptable behaviour for a Tim Schafer fanboy such as myself.
I decided to enable ironman for my very first play through of the game because I'm a glutton for punishment and if it worked for XCOM 2 it'll work for this. Because this is my first playthrough I've already made some bonehead moves like not having enough or a diverse enough roster of heroes to hand for when the Cadence comes calling to a territory. This resulted in me having 2 crappy caberjacks and 1 shadowjack available to deploy against a shitload of ruptures and bulwarks.
The two caberjacks riddled with shitty traits were quickly felled, but who cares about them because I'm here to spread the word about our lord and saviour, Edward of House Immernacht aka Mr. Pancakes:
This strapping young lad witnessed two men twice his age get ripped to shreds by abominations from beyond the veil. Did he yield? Did he turn tail and flee, bringing shame and ruin to his house and revered bloodline, vanguard to the Chalice since the beginning of the reign of the Ruler?
Fuck no.
He stealth moved into range of every beast in the map and caved their goddamned skulls in one after another, shrugging off rupture corrosion and bulwark attack alike, leaving him with 3HP at the end of the battle. He surveyed the battlefield as its sole survivor, and broke the silence with the motto of his House:
The new CS:GO operation is out time to get hype and maybe make some mad dosh.
Is there a group on here who plays CS:GO regularly? I just got into it a few weeks ago and am playing about 10-15 hours a week messing around with the new operation and trying to work my way out of Silver 2.

In point buy systems I'm pretty sure 9 is actually the lowest a stat can go without a racial penalty so it's really not meant to be average for players. But for NPCs that are supposed to be less capable than adventuring characters it could well be average.

It seems like you can buy it elsewhere already (GOG, Greenman). It's $25 (22.50 on GMG).
Is there a group on here who plays CS:GO regularly? I just got into it a few weeks ago and am playing about 10-15 hours a week messing around with the new operation and trying to work my way out of Silver 2.
