Questions have been excellent from the Town Hall until this plant asking if Democrats have ceded veteran support through not caring. Good on Sanders not rising to the bait

I normally don't like CNN but they've done extremely well picking questions overall. Cogent, firm but not dickish

Town halls have been, to this point, a format where the candidates get equal time to answer questions posed by the moderator in order to avoid the DNC limitations on debates. Essentially each candidate will get a while to answer questions without the other candidates interrupting.

Town Hall is tonight, debate is tomorrow, right?

We're reading Rifts. You should too. You know you want to. Now With Ninjas!

They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.

It was a workaround before they agreed on multiple debates. They each take questions from voters sequentially rather than on the same stage

Tomorrow there will be a traditional debate on MSNBC

I thought Bernie knocked that question out of the park actually.

"You wanna know about my veteran support? I headed that shit and got shit tons of legislation passed. Let me list my years of work in veteran support."

I wouldn't go that far because one of the Obama administrations biggest failures is the mismanagement of the VA IMO. But he did well with it.

I still feel he's too " Step 2:???" but he did well and far better than any GOPer could do in substantive debate

Fair enough. I felt it was well detailed in terms of saying "I've done a lot for veterans, I don't just blow smoke." But yeah, considering its been during the whole VA shebang, I get your point too.

Edit: So I don't double post, listening to Hilldawg talking here with this question, she feels like she is flubbing a bit at the beginning of her answer. Starting to turn it around now though.

Oh dear lord, I do not envy Hillary getting asked this end-of-life question. She even admitted she hadn't thought about it much, but after floundering for a minute I thought she did really well on it. She also admitted that she didn't have a great answer, but she would be respectful with it by trying to learn more.

Pretty good dodge on the draft question.

Which I can only compliment because it's kind of a bullshit gotcha soundbite fishing question.

The draft one she totally dodged, but I thought her answer about "not expanding military use" was pretty straight forward: She will not agree to that, because she does not know what will happen. She wants to use diplomacy, but will use military if she has to.

This most recent question she also dodged too.

I'm not really sure if HIllary is good at these off the cuff questions. She really seems to ramble on a lot of these questions. Its really striking considering how good her answers have been (imo of course) during debates.

  • PantsBPantsB Fake Thomas Jefferson Registered User regular
See I think she's rolled with some pretty out there questions very well, handled the standard ones forthrightly and just provided an answer with intimacy that I don't know that I've ever seen in a candidate. I doubt she'll get credit for it but ::shrug::

Ha ha that's true. The end-of-life and humility questions were pretty out there for a town hall, and I thought she did well on those.

Heh that's pretty fair. But it is a critique of Obama as well. When he's not giving a speech, he is not nearly as eloquent and stumbles on answer.

I guess because I'm a rambler but I always found that endearing. I sympathize with the idea of wanting to tell someone everything and you end up telling them nothing.

Big fan of Clinton's Medical Cannabis answer.

    ...

And literally as I'm about to click Post, she uses medical marijuana to pivot to drug addiction deaths.

That's a big deal in New Hampshire right now. Opiates in particular. Since this is a thing candidates are asked about by real voters all the time apparently, it often comes up when they're asked about any drug thing.

OD deaths are becoming a thing the country over sadly. And moving from MJ to that doesn't necessarily mean you are connecting one to another, its just drugs are a topic lets now just talk about drugs in general, especially OD deaths.

Oh I get it. I just personally don't like it, because for some people it's going to mentally link medical marijuana and addiction.

Yeah, having spent a year working at a homeless shelter in New Hampshire I'm glad to see the issue of opiate addiction getting national attention, although I'm not sure how optimistic I am about the government's ability/willingness to address the issue.

Obama did something with this I forget what. But it wasn't like a crackdown on the addicts but attempting to do more to help.

Obviously because Americans still love punishing drug offenders in general it'll forever make it hard to get something good there, but dems at least are not full on RAWR DRUG WAR!!!

I forgot this was on tonight so I missed Bernie's half, so I'll have to catch that later, but I thought Hillary did really well. I talked to my dad about it and he said "Yeah Bernie just kinda said the same stuff he's always saying, I think Hillary really won tonight by personally connecting with people", and we're both Bernie supporters.

I think we're turning into Bernie Supporters Shifting More And More Toward Clinton. But it's a long time till the California primary.

It's a big deal in a lot of areas now- specifically affluent areas which is one of the (unfortunately) main reasons it's getting traction as opposed to when it was just killing them poors.
