Anyone who tells you they beat Battletoads (legit, no Game Genie or whatever) when they were a kid is a liar. You should never trust such a person.

There is a bug in the lvl 3 hover bike track. The starting line is a 'bar' that the bike will physically hit. If you get the timing right, you can hit the starting line bar and press 'jump' at the same time; will cause a game glitch that launches the player up and off screen. While you can't see your character, you can still use the D-pad to move. Press and hold right on the D-pad to clear the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the map.

Loved this game but became unhealthily obsessed with it. Got to the point where I could do the speeder bike level without watching the screen for most of it. Despite the obsession, I've only ever made it as far as Stage 12, out of 13. And yes Forty, that's without a game genie. Did it old school memorization style.

To this day, beating Battletoads is my White Whale. I agree completely with Forty, anyone who says they've beaten this game without using a game genie is either more obsessed than I was, or a liar. Either way, they are not to be trusted, lol.

I got all the way to the Dark Queen a couple of times, but I was always in such rough shape by the time I got there that I never lasted long. And she was a super tough boss, of course. And yeah, I could only get that far through constant replays, memorizing precise timing, etc. Oh, to have the free time of a kid again!

A guy at AGDQ 2016 last month almost beat the speeder bike sequence blindfolded. He got to the very last sequence of the final section but lost his last life there. People can in fact beat it blindfolded, although not consistently. Pretty crazy either way.

I've been holding onto this memory of betrayal and subsequent burning curiosity for probably two decades now, and finally this is the perfect place to share it. I was playing Battletoads one day with my brothers and I think I was on the chasm level. Things were going fine, I had full health, so I ignored eating the flies. And I don't know if it was a glitch or just a rare bit of programming, but those little bastards paid my disinterest back by picking me up and carrying me off screen! I lost ALL my lives and had to continue! Has anybody ever experienced this??

If I didn't have witnesses, I'd swear I was delusional, and I'm not totally convinced it wasn't some shared fever dream. I've never heard a single account from anybody else and typically people familiar with the game are dumbfounded. Help me internet, you're my only hope.

As fun as it is to watch people get eviscerated by Battle Toads, I was secretly hoping that either Khoo or Kiko would be some kind of idiot savant with the game.
