Hmm 10 dollars is a bit much if you're buying it by itself honestly, even from someone that enjoyed it. Unless you really want to build robots, but as part of the season pass I enjoyed it
With the first two ranks of the Inspirational perk, it wasn't uncommon for Codsworth to wipe out entire rooms full of enemies by himself before this DLC came out.
Now that I can upgrade him with absurd amounts of armor and weaponry, I imagine it won't be hard to turn him into the ultimate bodyguard. I'll never need to fight anything again.
Warning: Looking at Codsworth in the robot crafting station, even if you don't change anything, will permanently remove his ability to wear a bowler hat.

Woah woah WOAH.
Wait a minute...you're telling me I can now turn Codsworth into a nuke spewing sentry bot of death?
Hot damn. Always wanted to tinker with him but didn't hold out hope that Automatron would finally allow it.

Yes, but didn't you see? It removes his ability to wear a bowler hat. So, overall, it would be a nerf.
What's the minimum level requirement for Automatron? I'm at level 28 or 29 on my slashy fists character, so I should be good to pick the DLC up today, yes?
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

It works on everything, even legendaries and bosses (like the robobrains). I fight every encounter by taking control of the strongest robot there, then inciting the rest of them to attack to each other. It does require getting into melee range, so I still take a bit of damage, but fights end almost as soon as they begin.
If you want to have full access to every possible robot part, you'll need nearly every crafting perk, which means having at least 8 Intelligence and 4 Strength. Best get levelin'.
And for those wondering, yes, wearing the Silver Shroud costume during the final confrontation does indeed unlock unique dialogue options.
If you're a Codsworth user like myself, then I'm sure you've often become frustrated at the fact that he can't be revived when KO'd like other companions. Automatron adds the new consumable "Robot Repair Kit", that functions as a stimpack for robots.
Hmm. I'm not sure I want to turn my new stealth sniper character into Brainy McBrains and blow all my next level ups on crafting perks. I might hold off on this DLC for a bit.

Note that, like weapons, the low-end robot mods don't require any perks and can be built by any type of character. It's only the high-end stuff that requires significant perk investment.
Also note that as soon as you install the DLC, enemy robots will start dropping robot mods mixed in with their randomized loot. This means you'll have access to at least some high-end robot mods, even if you can't build them yourself.
I remember being able to stimpack Codsworth when he went down in battle, no matter time to fetch him from Sanctuary and turn him into a killbot when I get home.
Automatron is coming at a kind of funny time for my current playthrough. Just got to The Institute and met Father in the main questline.
I decided from the start to kind of do a fallen jedi type of thing. Trying to find her son, my character hooks up with The Railroad, and decides to work with them because they can most likely help, but also helping Synths is a noble cause. She quickly rose through the ranks to become their best agent, better than Glory even, and they eventually find their way into The Institute sending their best agent in to scout it out of course. Once she learns that Father is her son, emotion takes over and she devotes herself to their cause for her son's sake and The Railroad has a legendary agent that they no longer talk about(and who I suspect will have to return at some point and wipe them all out...).
So she's finally found her son, and was just given her first Synth reclamation assignment... but fuck all that because Automatron! She's gonna be gone for a while, and when she finally returns to The Institute, Shaun'll be like:
"Mother! Are you alright? The Courser says you never showed up to the rendezvous spot... it's been two weeks, where have you been?"
"Shaun! Look, I made a robot too! Pretty cool, huh?"
"...Oh boy"

What I've seen of Automatron reminds me a bit of tinkering with my robot characters in the SaGa games, in a good way.
I'm actually looking forward to this a lot more than I expected. I had kind of decided to leave off FO4 until they released console modding. I'll probably fire this up when I get home.

Already growing attached to mine.
Seems like a lot of the best defensive mods are all raider styled visually though which is kind of a bummer if you want your guys to look more professional or friendly rather than demon from hell.
So I've completed the dlc, and after taking out one patrol of robots the mission goes away, I thought it would be repeatable? Also I've forgotten the name and location of the mechanist lair so I can't go back and check for more stuff, can someone spoiler tag it for me?
Oh hell yes robots you build can be assigned to supply lines. No more waiting for the recruitment beacon or shuffling around settlers. I'm gonna need more junk to build robots, more robots!
Looks like to begin with you only have access to the protectron/assaultron/mr handy chassis and components.
Are the stuff like sentrybots and robobrains unlocked through the quest or are they gated behind perks? I'm assuming the former since they just aren't on there at all, not blacked out.
Anyway, right now I'm rolling with an extremely junky-looking ladybot with automatic lasers on each hand (named T260G, after the SaGa character...). This looks promising so far.

Neither, those are parts you can't build until you've looted it off of an enemy robot at least once. So you're unfortunately at the mercy of RNG if there's one you really want.

Might actually have to whip out the power armor for this.

Level 15 iirc.

That sounds fantastic

I'm assuming they kept it that way for simplicity's sake if for nothing else, but I would be sorely disappointed otherwise. Codsworth is awesome.
He does. Only the robots you build from scratch have customizable voice options. Codsworth, Curie, and Ada are all stuck with their default voices.

You will.
Gotta go by feel until you get the first one built.
Not sure what the limit is.
I think you also get it from Abraxo Cleaner. It's in lots of places.
Also holy shit the gorgon robots (I think that's what they're called) are fucking terrifying looking

(I still haven't found a sentry torso.)
