Man, Parts: The Clonus Horror. I thought I was actually factually losing control of my brain when I saw The Island because not only is that movie tres not very good it is also a straight up ripoff of The Clonus Horror, somehow, for some reason.

Fun fact: the Parts: The Clonus Horror guy sued and got at least something for it:
The creators of the 1979 film Parts: The Clonus Horror, which was also about a colony that breeds clones to harvest organs for the elite, filed a copyright infringement suit in 2005.[16][17] DreamWorks attempted to have the suit dismissed but a federal judge determined that there was indeed a copyright infringement case to be heard and scheduled the case to go to trial in February 2007. However, DreamWorks then settled the case out of court in late 2006 for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.[18]

Whew, seven figure! Hell yeah he got something out of it!

Then you might be interested in this recent Rifftrax, starring Sean Astin and Bruce Campbell.

    Another watch-along THURSDAY, February 11th! Maybe a double-feature!

The fun starts at 6PM EST! This will be my last watch-along for a little while!

Have you selected episodes yet? Might I suggest if you go the double feature route one Joel episode and one Mike episode.

And maybe as a send off do one of most infamous episodes of all. Manos "the hands of fate"

Save Manos for a day you feel less like laughing and more like marveling at how something so abominable could ever be created

The best MST3K episodes are making fun of watchable schlock

Manos is painful, but absolutely a critical part of the show's catalog because of how unbelievably and singularly weird it is

EDIT: I would also put Monster-a-Go-Go up there with Manos on the short list of episodes that are basically like watching a trainwreck

    That twist ending

These picks are both for Joel (me). Two of my all-time favorites. And on the one night this week I'm actually free, too.

See, for me, Manos is just soothing. It's so bizarre and so weird that it's badness is never actually irritating, it's just strange. I can get down with strange

Even Monster-a-Go-Go, a movie literally compiled from unused footage from other movies, is strange enough that I can watch that. Same with Red Zone Cuba--that movie is incompetent and nonsensical, but it has a definitive vision and an ethos and a mood. It fails to communicate all of those, but they're there and you can see them so I can watch it and marvel at it as a piece of monumentally failed art

Now, Hobgoblins? Oh wow Hobgoblins is almost unwatchable

I struggle to make it through that episode, I can't even imagine what watching the movie itself would be like

I would chew through my own arm before it was over

    Hobgoblins is amazing!

The rake fight, Club Scum, the silly puppets that they could obviously just let go of and they'd hit the ground...

That's the first episode that really had Megan rolling!

Ehh I find The Wild World of Batwoman and Monster A Go-Go to be my most unwatchable. Like. Monster A Go-Go is AWFUL and no amount of riffing makes it enjoyable. And The Wild World of Batwoman has some good moments but mostly I feel like Servo does at the end, just screaming END! ENNNNND!

I went back and watched some of the first season episodes a few years back, and they're just not very good

There are hints at the glory the show would become, but even through nostalgia glasses, they had to work to get to that point

I would actually rather watch Monster-a-Go-Go or Wild World of Batwoman again than to go back and watch virtually anything from season 1

Batwoman is an episode best left to a highlights reel. Episodes like that get put onto my "background watching" list, for something to throw on the other monitor when I'm playing Minecraft or Spelunky or something. I'm not really paying attention but can still catch the good jokes.

Nah nothing heretical about wanting to watch the shows after they'd worked out the kinks

Some people want them to find a way to release the very old KTMA episodes (which almost nobody has ever seen, unless you watched them as they were broadcasted originally) and I can cheer for that from a historical/archivist perspective but man I bet you a million bucks they suuuuuck

  • OmnipotentBagelOmnipotentBagel floof Registered User regular
I think the first season and the KTMA season are both worth watching if you're interested in improv and riffing as a thing, because that was before things were really scripted and you can learn a lot from how those episodes go. Like "don't riff it live on camera if you want to be entertaining".

    I get that

People rave about Jack Frost so I went into watching it with high expectations but was disappointed, the surreal stuff happening just didn't really do it for me I guess

Might be worth a re-watch without all the hype, though

Bring your friends! Tomorrow at 6PM EST!

I say there's going to be a double feature, but considering the (lack of) amount of work I've done prepping and packing to depart Friday morning, I may lose steam after one movie.

    I will try to persevere.

I hate to do this to my loyal followers, but I have to push the start time back an hour - I still have a lot of cleaning to do and I haven't eaten yet.

    New time is 7PM EST
