The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Nintendo Directs are the main source of news about Nintendo. They come out a few times a year, and have largely replaced most other news sources when it comes to the biggest Nintendo announcements.
This thread is where people playing Nintendo game (there have to be at least seven or eight of us) can talk about Nintendo games, and when Directs happen we can talk about the news to come out of them.
Fire Emblem's in, like, soon. So you can talk about that.
You hear that Splatoon sold to a third of the Wii U's userbase? That's right: fourteen copies
So yesterday when they merged my accounts, they said they were gonna send my ticket to "the transfer team" and they'd email me when the process is complete
I still haven't gotten it, and Google tells me for some people the way Nintendo handled it was that days after the fact, they just credited their new account with the money to buy said games from the old account. This lines up with what I've heard about people sending systems in repairs in cases where Nintendo couldn't restore those licenses
I really hope this is the case, because I regret buying Mario Maker, and could instead spend that money on the new Fire Emblem perhaps? Or maybe some VC games, the Pokemon RBY ports, for example?
One thing I'm curious about is, I had games from a Humble Bundle on there, it included Guacamelee, The Fall, OlliOlli and a few others, but I only spent a few bucks on that. I wonder if they would reimburse me the full digital price of those games or something?
Of course I won't be too shook up if everything just goes as planned and I simply have to live with my bad decisions, it's not like I wasn't gonna get Pokemon anyways
I should beat Awakening already so I can enjoy Fates, huh?
They're not really narratively connected. If you want to play Fates more than Awakening, there's no reason to force yourself to play catch-up. You'll be fine either way!
Wyborn and I beat Shovel Knight coop yesterday. At times, the game is a lot more difficult in coop.
But it was a really fun game and I'm glad we did it. Which game shall we play together next? Perhaps we'll finally finish our Affordable Space Adventure.

This is cool!
I made the mistake of leaving permadeath on in awakening and I get frustrated every time someone dies, but also want to advance some characters that are very hard to keep alive, so I kinda stalled out about halfway through.
Sumia has a character and personality, it makes sense to lose your shit if she bites it. That's actually what they bank on for the whole game, in terms of attachment!
Nintendo Related Reminder: if you have pokemon x/y or or/as be sure to get your wii code from gamestop this month (in the us anyway, I dunno what other countries have to do)

Man the Remnant of Fate was hahd
Weird how we never ended up needing that healing potion for the last try but it was harder than any other boss by an order of magnitude
Fire Emblem is typically is like Final Fantasy in that the worlds are typically separate.
But sometimes, like in Awakening, they take place in the same world just like centuries apart. But while you get more by knowing who Marth is, the game gives you the needed information (Marth is a legendary hero) so you really don't need to play prior games.
Also I am almost certain that Fates is standalone although I'm sure there will be DLC offering old characters as playable units.
Also, is there any validity to the rumor of a Mother 3 localization for the west? One site has just a vague source and every other site links back to that site.

The tweet came from Emily Rogers, who has apparently been pretty reliable in the past
In the GAF thread concerning this tweet, apparently someone that works at Nintendo gave some sort of subtle nod to the fact that it's happening
And then apparently some shit went down and someone might have gotten in trouble? And Rogers ended up deleting her Twitter account
Fates is almost standalone but not quite, the main plot definitely is but there's a few returning elements from previous entries
the characters from old games are all tied to amiibo this go-around (or the card game but that's never coming out here), it's their classes you can get through dlc... with one exception that's solely tied to the card game, iirc

Eurogamer apparently had another source confirm it
AlphaDream: While we referenced all of the Paper Mario series games during production of this title, the title we were influenced by the most was definitely Paper Mario: Sticker Star.
MOTHER FU-
Would AlphaDream ever consider making a pure Paper Mario RPG? Or would they be more interested in making an original game like Tomato Adventure again?
AlphaDream: We have not thought about making a Paper Mario RPG. That series is designed in the style of Intelligent Systems, and we think that if we made a Paper Mario game it would be "not quite right".

To be fair, that's kinda just in regards to the characters they used. Yeah it sucks that they didn't tap into any older PM characters, but unlike Sticker Star they gave Paper Bowser his personality back.
Sumia is the worst, because she can only marry like 5 people.

Oh wait I actually wanted to complain about Paper Jam. You send me on a stressful 10 minute hunt with fights you can't run away from and all I get is 3 Paper Toads? At least the last (?) Trio Attack for doing them all is pretty cool.

The only good Paper Toad hunts are the ones where they're hiding and you have to find them. If every Paper Toad hunt was only that, it'd have been way better.

What gets me is that now that I'm presumably near the end-game these Toad Hunts start giving out Battle Cards. Why weren't they doing that before? My opinion on them would be a bit softer if they had. Which reminds me, are those Star Medals used for anything?
+1

Gotta beat Code Name STEAM so I can free up my Fire Emblem amiibos before Fates. I'll marathon it over the long Presidents' Day weekend.

Goddamn this month is just an avalanche of games
I'm not even counting the other Fire Emblem that comes out the same day

Nah
I love Awakening to bits but I haven't even finished it

And then my Pegasus lady died in her first fight and I was pretty upset
Is it weird that I got more upset about random named anime lady dying than squad members in XCOM named after friends and family?

Not at all. The game actually establishes her as a unique person who has relationships with the other units. She's more than just a name

Had to double-pogo for reals

edit glancing at the wiki and apparently they are from another dimension or something? and only like 3 of them?
Which I guess makes fates still almost entirely its own thing

I don't know
I'd like to believe

MY WORST NIGHTMARE!
I guess I'll just start playing again and stop being awful.
Eurogamer apparently had another source confirm it
We'll find out in April
Only 3 of them!
This might be spoilers for fates so here is a spoiler tag
Should be able to breeze through now!
