Fellow squidkids, I've just bought this game. Please give me all your tips because I need them!
Unsafe squidjumping probably makes up a lot of deaths. If an ally is in the middle of a battle, choose to swim to the fight instead of jumping. If your ally gets splatted, your jump marker will be camped.
Don't overextend yourself to the enemy's spawn where you risk easily dying. If you think you won't last long on their side, you're better off defending the middle. If we have most of the map, and my allies are spawn camping, I'll hang back a bit, so if the other three die, they can squid jump back to me.
Every level starting at 30, Judd the cat will give you a super snail if you talk to him. You can give them to Murch to increase the slots of your gear, or to reroll the abilities of a gear that have been all completely filled.
Here's a list of brands that give your the best abilities chances. The drink tickets you can buy to increase the chance of getting a certain ability don't stack with the brands common ability.
@QuestionMarkMan i'm a new player myself, but i thought i'd toss out a few of my thoughts to help a fellow new fish (wait... squids aren't fish, are they? No matter).
1) Find a weapon that's comfortable with your playstyle. i kept hopping around on weapons everytime i leveled up, always jumping on whatever had better stats. When i started doing that, i noticed my fun (and skill) dropping noticably because nothing i was grabbing really fit me that well. Turns out my ideal weapon is something i'd unlocked fairly early on. On paper it's not as good as other things available, but it just clicks for me.
2) Be a Judas goat. Sometimes when i play, i find opponents who will just drop everything to kill me. At first, i'd just panic, and try to get away as quick as i could. After a bit it dawned on me, if they were so invested in cacking me, they probably wouldn't be spending much time on my teammates, or on thoroughly painting the area. Now, i just do my best to lead them on a merry chase, laying down a patch or two in front, so i can dive in for a little bit of speed. Sure, they'll usually get me in the end, but if my team can use the time to claim a bunch of ground and we win in the end, that's hardly an issue.
I like the new spawn layout on Blackbelly, should nip the spawn-camping in the bud from the old version?
Also I'd need to go back and look at the old version, but the tower seems a little shorter? Should make those side walls from the ramp path more attractive for clearing the tower out.

As a person who didn't play Splatoon, every "old" map is essentially new, and I love it.
I also think it's great that they're releasing old stages, too. Just the sheer principle. There's no reason to throw out all of the old stuff just for the sake of having new things, when the old stuff is still rad.
The Fes just opened up over here (or at least the voting for it), and we've got... do you put lemon juice on your fried chicken, or not? Umm...ok i guess? Would've rather had hot vs. cold breakfasts, but, whatever.
Also, if i could vent for a moment. While i've been having a solid time with the game, i wish, wish, wish people wouldn't drop out of matches (or wouldn't get dropped out, if it's a technical problem, and not a by choice thing). i've managed to move from crap, to OK, to maybe kinda sorta decent; but i'm still not near good enough to handle a 3 on 4 match. i don't even like it when the drop out is on the other team's side of things...feels like my team didn't really earn the win.
People try to start this shit all of the time. People that can pretty much go eff themselves because I'm trying to play a game here (and level up, collect coins, etc). Start a private lobby if you just want to screw around.
Pretty much. I've got two kids and two jobs and very little time to play games. I'm still only at level 19, and it is extremely frustrating to have my game time (and often tickets too) wasted because people apparently decided it was a good night for Squid Parties (and it never seems to just be one lobby when it starts happening).

That is...odd. i don't think i've seen it come up before, but it might just be where and when i play.
Ok
Is Star Wars sci-fi or fantasy
There’s space ships and the like but it’s mainly about the conflict between the good and evil teams of wizards who sword fight
Star Wars is fantasy IMO. I've never understood why it was always compared to Star Trek which is Sci-Fi.
I was 90% sure but this confirms it
I like Fantasy because that’s the one where sometimes something happens and I say “holy shit, awesome” vs sci-fi where I say “I don’t think this model of society holds up when you consider how people actually behave” or “oh I get it, this is the housing loan crisis, but aliens”

About a year ago I would have been 100% in the Star Wars is Fantasy camp, but these days I feel like Sci Fi doesn't have to be strictly cerebral, stodgy affairs. Sci Fi can have fun, too! And there is a lot of mixing between the two- Star Wars is a great example of something that really is both, and many recent Zelda games have some variation of Advanced Technology Lost to Time included which I feel is very Sci Fi.
So I decided based on Lasers vs. Swords, and the fact that if you have lasers, maybe you can have Laser-Swords???

I love the touch that you can actually see Flounder Heights in the background of one of the current levels.
I'd love to see Pirahna Pit and Camp Triggerfish back some day.

Warm breakfast is bad for you (and mostly just plain gross if you're in the UK or US). Cold all the way.

??
Because of the types of food that are typically served warm for breakfast or just that they’re warm?

Every time I support Marina, I lose
But...how could you not go with warm breakfast? Pancakes, waffles (natch), eggs of all varieties, miso soup. Warm breakfast is the bomb.

Eh, I could live with that stuff you listed (not every day though). Stuff like beans, bacon or sausages though? No thanks.
