So I think I've convinced myself to go with the Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler for my CPU. I started going down this road once I realized exactly how huge the Cryorig R1 is and I wasn't sold on it hanging off my mobo.
Can anyone with experience give me advice on starting down this liquid cooling path? I think I'd rather get an all in one liquid cooling option because that sounds easier, but I don't know about the pros and cons...
Don't worry about the size of the cooler, they're pretty light for the size and there's backplate of some kind to support the weight.
A small warning about Corsair closed water cooler stuff. They're loud as fuck.

These past two pages have me very nervous about putting my rig together...
Don't be. Sure every once and a while something sucks (like me shorting out my H100i cooler), but for the most part it's cake.
Remember, unskilled child labor put together 90% of electronics nowadays.
Hell, when I broke my word and got a new MOBO, processor, and ram the other day I ran into the constant power cycle problem. You know what was the problem? Broken CPU? Broken MOBO? Broken Ram? Nah, I slotted my graphics card into the wrong PCI-E slot.

I've been using a R.A.T. 7 for years, though quality control seems to be poor given the tepid reviews on Amazon. Anecdotally, I'd totally recommend it, because I love the way it looks an feels in the hand...
Yep, my RAT 7 is a fantastic bit of gear. 4 years old and still flawless, even if some of the bolts have corroded thanks to how sweaty my hands get in summer.
I have a budget of around $ 500-600. I was looking at cards like the GTX 960-970. Should I go for an i7 and couple it with a GTX 960? I'm not even sure which one would be compatible with my current motherboard. I do game from time to time, like not hardcore.. but I would like to play the games I do on decent quality.. (Division, Farcy etc..)
Get a GTX 970 if you need to upgrade NOW.
But if you don't need to upgrade now then I would wait for information about Pascal, which should coming in a month or two. If anything, there's going to be a flood of used 900 series cards on the market relatively soon.
100% agree. You do not need an upgrade, at all. I'm running a 7870 and it's still doing everything I need it to at 1080p.

They are? Then why is mine almost totally silent? I have to take the side panel off my case to check if it's even on...
So I updated my PC when I realized I'd need to replace the CPU for the Oculus Rift. That resulted in having to replace the motherboard and RAM, as well. When I was done ordering new parts I realized I now had a spare motherboard, RAM, CPU, old GPU (560 Ti) lying around, so I was roughly a case and a cooler away from a second PC I could give to a friend. I ordered a new case (combined case/450w PSU)) and cooler and set to moving the old parts in.
The problem is, I can't seem to get it to POST. I didn't change anything on the board itself, just moved it to a different case (i.e. didn't move the CPU or RAM). I've tried removing the HD and the GPU just to simplify, but I'm getting nothing at all. The power seems to cycle, shut off, then power back up 10 seconds later. It's bizarre.
I tried taking out 3 of the RAM sticks, that didn't seem to work either. Power seems to be connected properly to the board? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The red light on the motherboard, has it always been there? I know lots of motherboards do have a light on on normal operation, but that light, especially being red, might not be normal, and might be some kind of indicator.
Another thing I can think of is maybe while moving it the heatsink became dislodged/loose/not contacting the CPU properly, which is causing the CPU to overheat at boot and it restarts. Maybe try re-doing the heatsink and thermal paste.
Also, when you take video, do it horizontal/landscape, not vertical like a heathen.

Hm, any way to isolate whether it's the PSU? It seems unlikely that it's the heatsink as that was brand new and i installed it after moving the motherboard, but I suppose it's possible?

You could check and see if any of your friends has a psu tester. Other than that all you can do is bridge the main power to get the thing to turn on (Google it, it isn't hard. I'm on my phone or I'd find a good guide for you)

Absolutely finish. My creative Z refuses to be detected no matter where I place it or anything. Fucking waste of money.

I have a second gen H60 and I don't hear the pump at all over the noise of the SP120 that came with it.
It doesn't help that I will gladly trade lower C for higher DB and as a result my case is essentially a wind tunnel though.

Upgrading your GPU right now is ludicrous. The only reason to do so is if you're below a GTX970 and you want to get into some VR gaming. Otherwise, you're better off postponing for six months and getting a Pascal card.

Ehh...I wouldn't exactly go that far as to say for certain that an upgrade isn't needed. Depending on which 7800-series card is already in there (for example, if it's a 7850), there's liable to be some hiccups in the two games mentioned if played at high settings (or even medium/high).

According to the initial post, we're talking about a 7800-series Radeon. Worst case scenario, it's on par with a Geforce 570/660. Best case scenario, it's on par with a 660ti or 760.

The other option, if you don't mind spending every bit of your budget, is to pick up a GTX 980Ti.
It's the top end card currently, and is less likely to be immediately obsoleted by the new range of Pascal cards.

Or a Polaris card! I've been Team Green for a while, but I'm hoping AMD raises their game and gives nVidia more of a real run for their money this next generation. Real competition is necessary for innovation.

@ObiFett is that a G700? I have that very same mouse and it is amazing.
Also I have the non-RGB version of the Strafe with reds and it is also pretty nice.
Good taste.
The mouse is a G502 and it feels perfect in my hand. I can't wait to use both of them. Especially excited to make the lighting on both of them match my case lighting. I'm going with Black/White with Blue lighting.
I wish the G502 fit my hand, it's a fantastic mouse but I need one with more width. The Corsair M65 I'm using is great also but there was something about the G502 I really loved.
Mice and Keyboards are currently in great places for consumers, just tons of great options.

H100 on a 3770k at 4.4 GHz. The original fans (standard Corsair 120mm case fans) were actually pretty good, but I had money to burn and wanted to pretty up my case insides a teensy bit, so I bought some Corsair SP high flow fans to replace them with, and it went from being physically difficult to hear, to actually not possible to hear without taking the side panel off and putting my head close to the fans. The pump has always been dead silent.
I guess I'll add to the anecdote pile, I had a Corsair fan crap out on me after a few months, started rattling. I have spare fans anyway so I just stuck something else on there, nothing fancy, seems to work fine with whatever that fan was. When the corsair fans are working there's no noise from them but I have a good sound dampening case.

So, moving houses this past week and at the new house the power cut out in the neighborhood and of course my PC was on when this happened. I have a really nice surge protector, but not an APC.
So the PC kicked off and now none of the USB ports work. I can plug in usb cables and it will charge my phone, but it won't recognize it. It will also power a usb dvd drive, but not recognize it.
Tried using a powered usb hub, but still won't recognize anything.
I don't have a usb to ps/2 plug to try my keyboard that way and try to reformat or something. I tried reseting the cmos, but no go.
I just bought a replacement mobo (one that I wanted in the first place but newegg was sold out) so I will be replacing my Asus Hero Alpha with the ASUS Z170 WS board.
So after I RMA my asus board I will have an extra for someone here that needs a 170 board
Also, buying a damn APC so this doesn't happen again.

No news on the Pascal cards at the GPU conference.
Time to pull the trigger on a 980ti
Weird, no talk about consumer gaming cards at the keynote.
Guess it's going to be like Computex at the start of June for the announcement.
Speculation is that we won't actually see consumer versions of the Pascal architecture until Q1 of 2017
If both Nvidia and AMD aren't releasing new cards until 2017 I don't think I'll wait much longer to replace my 7970.
I know that any of the cards I'm looking at are overkill for 1080p, but I when I rebuild I'm also going to invest in a 1440p Freesync or G-Sync monitor.
I'm leaning towards Sapphire Radeon NITRO R9 Fury, and as much as I'd like a 980ti it's just a bit too expensive right now even after the $260 in Amazon gift cards and points I'll be using.

Looks like I'll be moving forward with the new build in light of today's Pascal news. Was holding off to see what they had planned, in hopes they'd announce something coming soon.
