I was thinking over this weekend that I really should be protecting my System and Games from anything. I did start cataloging my games for all systems (PS2, GC, GBA, PSP, DS and PS1) and I tought about cataloging my systems as well. Is there any benifit to take insurance on them? I would think so, but does the insurance company have any policies for stuff like this? I have some JRPG's and SRPG's that are really hard to find and the PS1 games as well so any protecting would be benificial I would think.
I also wanted to do something similar for my Anime Figures that I got from here and my recent trip to Japan. Are Insurance companies really set up for this stuff?
Good insurance companies will insure anything you can put a value on. As it is, I'd total up what they're all worth then check to see if whatever home contents insurance you have already covers them.
If you're asking for specific cover, most insurance companies will want a catalogue and preferably some photos of what's being insured.
Renter's Insurance should cover all your household belongings if they are stolen/burned in a fire. Keeping a catalogue of what you have, especially valuable hard to find stuff is a good idea. And some way to prove its value wouldn't hurt as well.
If your a home owner you should talk to your whoever insures your home. If you rent and you don't have renter's insurance your a fucking idiot so talk to whoever gives you care insurance. Its so cheap theres no reason not to have it, although I know many people my age (a year out of college) don't think they need it.
Recently, my homeowner's policy changed in that limits were placed on the value of "digital media" (dvds, cds, games, systems). In order to insure my game collection I have to take out a special rider that covers the value of the items over and above what my primary coverage allows.
It's important to check what will be covered and what to what maximum. I'd imagine the figurines would be lumped in with your "home contents," but you may need to buy a rider for your collection.

I may have to talk to my parents about thier home insurance and what they can cover. If not, I will have to find and insurance company and set up the insurance myself. I am more inclined to set it up myself though. Also is it worth it to keep the games I don't play in some sort of safety deposit box? I mean take the cds and put them into those yellow selves the EBGames uses and store them there? It would provide protection as well.
I have so many things that I should ensure that its insane.
This is why you catalogue and agree on values before anything happens. I had to specify the value of my mountain bike (£800 new) because the maximum cover in the policy was £150.

Even NES Championship, which just fetched a whole lot of cash (~21k?) would get you a bag of shiny quarters.
Ahh. Insurance.

The games will be insured as soon as possible now. The figures as well, provided they do figures.
Well, at least they're retarded in your favor.
